Castello's Victorian Tavern reviews
60The service was quite good, but overall the food was reasonably average for the price which is quite expensive. Good play area for the kids too.
Great food, good prices, particularly if you like parties ($7.95 on Tuesday's). Great range of veg options, particularly for a pub. Prices range in the early to mid $20's
The food was lovely, reasonable prices, attentive and happy staff and it was great that children eat for free on Mondays. Highly recommended.
Had the ultimate Parma, it wasn’t huge like most pubs sell, I could actually finish it and enjoy it. It has so much flavour and the chippies were good too.
If you feel at all hungry but want to order a senior’s meal, go somewhere else! I regularly order seniors’ plates. I am a small woman and they suit my appetite. I pay less and fully expect a considerably smaller portion. Nonetheless, when l order grilled fish l do expect a piece somewhat larger than a sardine (or maybe two sardines pressed together). My husband’s schnitzel was also barely adequate. We eat out at hotels regularly, generally enjoying seniors meals, and have never received such skimpy portion sizes anywhere. The only good thing about this hotel is its location - close enough to supermarkets to fill up on nut bars afterwards!
Had dirty dog off specials menu and wasn't what I expected. Although it had alot of ingredients that was on menu there was so little of each. Was dry from lack of radish and cheese that ended up adding tomato sauce.
Staff are pleasant but food is average and not great value quality for a family. We will try other options in town in future.
Sorry to say this but Castellos seems like a camouflaged la Porchetta franchise. Staff are friendly but should be a bit more attentive. It's sad these places don't have the faculty of a waiter taking the order and processing payment. You have to line up to order your grub. I like innovation and flavours this place was stuck somewhere between the titanic and the 70s. Establishment was nice and cozy. Even though the colours we are a bit dull like the menu.
My mum and I spent the afternoon at the victorian gisbourne today and wanted to say how friendly and helpful the gaming room staff were. They had snacks of hot pies and sandwiches, free coffees and soft drinks as well as an afternoon host with prizes to give away. All the staff were so friendly and happy in their job. We came all the way from woodend though we live in Melbourne and many other venues could take a leaf from their book. Btw we didn't walk away winning but enjoyed our afternoon.
Calamari cooked to perfection. Chocolate cake not overly rich. Food well presented. Staff welcoming and accommodating. Checked to see if meals were acceptable.
Poor quality food. Ordered Kids sausage roll which came out like it had been microwaved with soggy pastry. Chips were also over cooked. Waited on my calamari salad and when arrived the calamari smelt off and the salad was drenched in oil. Having had previous bad experiences at this restaurant with the food and being almost a year since going here I thought maybe the chef may have been changed and I would give it another go. Never again. Also the baby change table in the toilets is the most unsafe baby change table i have ever seen. Will not return!
Parma with salami was actually really good with nice chips and salad.
Vibe is a little tainted by gambling and not really a classic pub. But was ok with good friends.
We went in tonight as a family of 11 for Parma night. Best service, awesome food and an amazing price to feed such a huge family.
We will be back.
Thank you
Ordered a $35 steak and it was absolute trash. Tasted like it was off and cooked in a microwave. Order medium rare, received well done.
Red wine gravy was terrible.
Friend ordered a chicken parmy and it was tasteless.
On a positive they did give me a refund.
Husband had steak and chips I had prawn and chorizo pasta was few prawns chunks of chorizo not very nice sparse cheese on top stick to basics here
Good family atmosphere. Meals served fast on a Saturday night. No complaints from a table of six
Expensive normally but they are trying really hard to get discounted favourites like Param and Pot going on off peak days. Great atmosphere and facilitates. Casual, romantic, sports minded or kids in tow, all is welcome and catered for.
The 8 of us really enjoyed our meals. Very tasty even the senior meals. Calamari was so tender which is a nice change from other places. Our waitress Sharlene was very helpful and cheerful. We will be back.
Great atmosphere and well layed out space, solid food selection of favorites and specials, and a great selection of beers on tap with all the supporting drinks you'd expect. Reserved a table after a game of football across the road and felt very welcomed by staff. Handled our 30+ people extremely well and asked us on numourous occasions if everything was ok as you'd expect in such a family bistro. Top job everyone!
Really nice pub, but definately overpriced. Chicken parmas were an average of $26. For god's sakes, it was a parma not a steak. Fair price would be about $15. Entree was the same, 4 chicken wings cost $14 and with a family of 4, we needed 2 serves. But to be fair the meal was delicious.
