Captain Gummy's fish and chips Boronia (gluten free) reviews
58Probably the best potato cakes around! Crunchy exterior, fluffy interior and not oily. Prompt service and friendly staff.
Home made potato cakes (not that frozen rubbish), real calamari, prawns are great, love that you can also get tub of gyros meat if you pick up yourself (not available on uber), chips are great when asked for well done. Portion sizes are really good! Delish chicken salt!
Quality has gone down hill, new ownership? Used to be my favourite fish and chip joint. Now I recommend avoiding.
They do not accept EFTPOS. Directed to a cash machine just inside the door which charges $2.50 to dispense cash. The shop would get a commission on this. Misunderstood the amount and was 50 cents short. Had to spend a further $2.50 to withdraw additional cash. Never again. Not recommended.
Used to be a lot better, food is still good but they make the delivery apps food a priority which is causing wait times to blow out
If I could give 0 stars I would.
The worst customer service I have ever seen/heard. The girl on the phone sounded so rude and like I was wasting her time.
Then we arrived to collect and they said cash only. Very illegal!
Dodgy as.
I came into Captain Gummy's last week and unfortunately experienced the worst customer service I have ever had. The girl behind the counter was monosyllabic, rude, and didn't look like she wanted to be at work. Why put someone on a register if they can't even be polite to their customers? No "thank you" or "have a nice day" or even a "hello". She just stood there staring, waiting for us to place our order.
On top of that, we didn't get the chips we ordered either. This is the second time something has been left off the order.
Usually a nice place to go, but the girl behind the register needs to be replaced or at least be given some training in customer service.
No way. Cold, dry, bland, bitter food with dreadful batter. Dim sims tasted like cat food.
Eating here actually made my wife and I depressed.
Would have been a higher rating except it took too long. Meals were made and put aside while other orders were taken
I’ve got fish and chips here recently twice.and both times the chips have been over cooked dry and terrible.you have a lost a customer due to the quality of chips.fish okay…maybe it’s lockdown maybe you guys are tired…but paying cash premium prices won’t be returning.potato cakes really good give you guys that.but the chips are bad maybe I just got an off day idk.but it’s happened twice
While the fish & chips are great, they often forgotten an item. Tonight, they have left out one flake in a dinner meal set.
This essential business which is privileged to be able to remain open during a strict lockdown is taking in lots of money. However there's never anyone asking customers to QR check-in. Apparently take away staff are immune to catching or sharing Covid19. There were 8 people behind the counter and only two were wearing their mask properly. Almost every one of them with their mask under their nose, and the manager had his under his chin (must have pulled it up to his nose after I questioned him)
Shame on you all for putting your community at risk all while taking our money.
This is our local.crispy and yum! I drive past 2 other places to get the chips from here. Worth the effort!
Burgers are great, fresh smell inside shop. Fish is great, chips are nice, steamed dim sims good too. Only accepts cash which is a shame.
Yeah really average oily chips and really average oily fish sorry but I tried it twice and both times just really really really really boily
The fish is overcooked.
The meat is always too salty
the souvos are always ready 5-10 minutes before rest of food, so is cold and useless
the owner throws food from one side to another as its being cooked and does not respect his role.
The owner does not appropriately wear a mask, and no-one entering the store QR codes, and there is no emphasis on this.
The owner needs to own he is a leader and this behaviour is not appropriate
Best fish n chips in the area. Heaps of certified gluten free food including fish chip burgers salads potato cakes etc.
Getting pretty expensive, got 3 of my last 4 orders wrong unfortunately. Heavy batter and overcooked regularly also. At the moment it's my pick of a pretty average bunch in the area.
I waited 2 hours for my food to be delivered. When I rang Up the shop the lady was rude and didn't know if my order was there or not she also kept on hanging up the phone on me. The food was awful the crab stick was the worst I have ever had it was like rubber yuk!
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!
Here’s a detailed review start to finish. Food, price and service.
Walked in to a crowded shop during covid stage 4 so they are NOT asking people to wait outside. Queued and ordered and was happy to see fresh fish (whiting & blue grenadier) on display. Reasonable price for my order but they DONT ACCEPT CARD in covid stage 4? Really. I was directed to the in store ATM with a $2.50 surcharge. Grrrr.
Then I waited a long time for my small order (they were busy). Got home to enjoy my meal and the grilled fish was in pieces. Tasted ok but oily and fish smashed in pieces. Potato cakes were oily too.
All round pretty disappointed. Think I’ll give them a miss next time. I was looking for fresh fish but Back to my usual with frozen fish, or keep hunting.
