Cape Otway Lightstation reviews
51 Amazing place to visit! Amazing history and a place to have a small lunch and learn things they never taught us when growing up about WW2 and the mid 1800s.
The lighthouse staff also knew their stuff and you could listen to them talk for hours!
Great collection of buildings to illustrate history and how the people worked and lived. Friendly and knowledgeable light house keeper. Scones, cream and jam the best!
Not worth the detour imo. Who pays to see a lighthouse now days?
Take this one off you itinerary, plenty other lighthouses to check out along this stretch of land
The lighthouse isn't big. It has got around 25 steps and last 10 steps are steep. But, you will get a good view of the sea from the top. There is also a café which was closed when we were there. Other than the lighthouse, there isn't much to do here.
Well worth visiting. Great ocean views. Lighthouse is open, worth the climb. Cafe on site, lots to see.
Wonderful structure, a lot of historical significance relating to the safe navigation of shipping passing through Bas Strait.
Our all time buck list thing to do.
Stayed in the Light Keepers B&B, was a great 2 nights, meals we ordered where great, as were the walks and going up the light house is always fun. Lighthouse guide Julie had energy and information galore.
Only downside was it would have been nice for staff to turn heaters on as we arrived in the dark and it was cold. Also is there really a need for a king bed in the first room it was a bit cramped for dinner with the bed and 4 adults around the table. Otherwise recommend it to all.
Underwhelming at best. Poor review purely for the cost - $50 per family then $35 for 3 meat pies and a coffee only to get herded up and down a light house like a goat.
I don't like Tourist traps and got stuck in this one. Wasn't worth the detour and kids were also disappointed.
Understand entry fees are used to maintain the property but still difficult to not see this as price gouging.
I haven't visited, the ticket was a bit expensive for my budget but I can't say if worth it or not.
Very picturesque place. On sunny clear day it's looks simply stunning. During the winters wind speed can go upto 160 km/hr. This review wouldn't be complete, if I hadn't mentioned our friendly guide, Alex. He so beautifully laid down the stories of the lighthouse, it felt as if taking a trip back in time.
An awesome morning out. You can climb the lighthouse and see brilliant views of the coast line.
Better to go there before 5pm. Gate is closed after 5. You can’t even see its outside after 5. There is after hours entering place. But there is no any better view of lighthouse. It didn’t mention any distance to go where we can see the lighthouse. It’s just mention as distant lookout. But you can’t find any lookout.
Amazing, stunning, a little expensive but a nice place to explore. It's opened from 9a.m to 5p.m. Historic and interesting to know that the lighthouse was built in 1848. On the way back saw kola bears on the trees near the road. They were climbing from one branch to another and kids enjoyed it.
A long trip inwards to cape otway just to see the lighthouse. The way is beautiful taking you through forests. Mind it, they are bendy. Got to see a few koalas up the tree on the way. The lighthouse is the highlight of the combo that they have. It's $19.50 for adult and $49.50 for family. The lighthouse, the telegraph station with its equipment, the officers living quarters, and the materials they used in 1848 were very interesting. The view up from the lighthouse is breathtaking. You have to be there to experience it. You feel like you on the top of the world!
A very quaint place not visited by many. The old office has artefacts that date back for its original days. The lighthouse itself was well maintained and provided a stunning and chilling view of the ocean.
You have to pay 20 dolars to visit the zone and lighthouse. In my opinion, so expensive. The landscape is similar to other places that ypu can visit for free.
I don’t think this lighthouse is worh $20 per an adult head to enter. Yes, it is nice and you can climb it. If you are really passionate about lighthouses, then go. In this and this case only it might be a 4 star experience worth $20 and the time you could spend doing many other things along the Great Ocean road. Note, I like lighthouses. I think there is something peculiar and powerful about them. I have seen quite a few of them in diferent places.
Room was lovely and clean staff were friendly the views were amazing. The cafe was not open which was disappointing would have been nice to sit down and have a coffee and enjoy the views. The guests in the room next door were extremely loud which was annoying and they woke us up at 6am would be nice if other guests show some consideration for other people stating other than that we enjoyed our stay
Stunning location beautiful lighthouse and maybe one day I will stay in the rooms there. Friendly stuff and a great cafe! Lots of fun for the whole family.great little museum for the communication of the times!
You need to visit this place.amazing views over the cliffs and also at the lighthouse (the oldest in Australia). Don’t miss it!
