Always drive past the store and notice queues nearly everytime throughout the day. Due to this observation we decided to pop in after ordering there once years prior.

That experience wasn't memorable as they didn't have any bread rolls at the time which was only around 2-3pm on a weekday. So, we thought lets give them another try to see what the long queues are again, all about.

First off we're baffled as to why the rating is so high and obviously accounts for the queues. We regularly eat banh mi thit from a couple other bakeries in Springvale which still taste authentic like they tasted 20 years earlier when I went with a child.

When I say 'authentic' I mean it doesn't include lettuce for one and secondly the overall ingredients used, service and price are quite more modernised and obviously different to majority of Vietnamese bakeries in Springvale. Personally we were after that authentic experience and instead we were disappointed.

The bread is the best part of the experience, it was fresh and crunchy yet soft inside (expected as it was approx 9am in the morning on a Friday). We ordered a chicken roll and a Xiu Mai roll which I noticed from reviews that it isn't the most popular customer choice.

The chicken roll was flavoursome and included most of what a banh mi thit has inside. Although the Xiu Mai had uneven spread throughout the roll and too much soya sauce in every bite I had. I barely tasted the mayo/butter not the pate. There was a big sprig of spring onion and my least favourite lettuce. I prefer it without although I wanted the full experience without altering the order.

The service was expected in comparison to many other businesses in the area. When we asked for the price as we only carried $20 cash on us, we noticed it was much more pricier than other banh mi thit rolls sold in Melbourne. Luckily we had cash on hand as we usually don't carry much although when shopping in Springvale, it's a must if you're looking to shop around.

The price was a bit of a shock at $8 a roll and if we wanted just a bread roll with only mayo/butter and pate for our little one, the owner wanted $5! (So no vegies or meat)

Overall, not at all what it's hyped up to be according to the noticeable queues and online reviews. Definitely not the best in Melbourne nor in town if you're after a more authentic Vietnamese roll.

Looking at the reviews (especially the photos), it appears many customers opted for the roast pork roll which we plan to make one more trip to try out. We also didn't see a menu on the board for the original cold meat roll, but there were ones with a selection of just one of the cold meats on its own. No pricing on the board either. We will also order a cold meat roll to try and give an honest review.

We will update the review accordingly after our 3rd trip back!

Beat Bahn Mi in Melbourne for me. The bun is fresh and crispy, the pate is yummy, the meats and tofu is flavourful and there is a great mix of salad and toppings to round it out. Not to mention they are stuffed full!

The bread was to soft and chewy with ordinary fillings. God know why people queue up here when there are a couple of other bakeries on yhe same road with far superior buns and fillings.

The queue down the street, while quite long moved quickly. For sure you know you are in Melbourne when people queueing for banh mi and paying $7:). Definitely money well spent. We had the lemongrass roast chicken and the bbq pork.it think I preferred the taste of the chicken as it was more mellow. The pork was flavourful but would think Id only need a few bites of that. I would return if in the area.

Absolutely cracking banh mi. The place is so popular that you always a queue there, however the wait is worth its weight in gold. Highly recommended.

Heavenly. Choose the roast pork with BBQ sauce, you'll never go wrong. And the lemongrass chicken too. Best banh mi in Melbourne!

I don’t know why they’re so popular? For me it taste normal like other shops and the shop is very dirty, one lady used here hand to touch the bread then touch the money with same hand. There isn’t any tags for the price for the food.

I understand why it’s considered the best in town! Their bread is so fresh and nice, they have plenty of variety; and the butter and pate in any bread roll is the best!

Been going here ever since I was a kid and I'll keep coming back. Easily the best banh mi in melbourne for only 6 bucks a roll. Always has a long line which tells you everything you need to know about this place.

Very good, always clean and fresh, tbh the other one 5 doors up tastes exactly the same, for some reason people flock to who ever has the biggest line up on the day both good, try the patte sticks - delicious! And ROAST pork with crackling over that pink one that doesnt even look like meat

The best pork rolls in Victoria!
You may have to wait in line for a while, but it's worth wait, and the line moves quickly. Everything on the roll, including the chilli, works in harmony with everything else to produce a unique taste sensation that others cannot match.

Truly, a sublime experience

This place never misses! Go here usually once a week, 6 bucks for a roast pork roll is some bang for your buck. Sadly this place takes cash only so be sure you have some cash ready!

How a roll can be simultaneously the crunchiest and softest at the same time is an enigma. The pate is succulent. Best banh mi I’ve had in a very long time.

A Vietnamese friend claimed this place to be the best banh mi place. Tried it in the evening of a Sunday near new years day so it might have been quieter than usual. Was surprised they are still open and have ingredients at 5pm. Had their roast pork banh mi which only costs $6 (so cheap!). They were generous with ingredients, they put lots of coriander and (interestingly?) onion. But it was soo tasty and meat marinade was rather sweet. It would have been better if there are crackles (only found one little piece in the whole banh mi), because I thought that was the whole point of roast pork. But anyhow, I am still very happy with the banh mi. Definitely one of the best out there.

Queueing up is always worth the wait. The queue generally moves pretty quickly so you don't have to wait that long even when it is very busy. Best value & best quality Bahn-Mi's around, if you like Bahn-Mi's & you haven't tried them you really need to go there& give them a go

Get the roast pork!

The pork is good and I usually go for the classic but the roast pork is delicious.

It's not too fatty and the meat is tender, the crackling is light and crispy! They're generous with the mayo and the house made pate is super flavourful. The bread holds all the sauce inside without losing it's integrity. Lastly, the ratio is good. A good amount of veges and the wet ingredients are spread evenly across the bottom of the roll which means you get a bit with every bite. Great Banh mi location!
