Bodega Underground reviews
46Tasty food and a good beverage range. Highly recommend pre-booking, they've been really busy lately so the indoor seating area gets extremely noisy. If the weather is good try the outdoor seating area.
Had the bottomless brunch, have to say it was great.
Corn was great
Chicken Chilaquiles was so so nice.
Mexican fried chicken/ wings. AMAZING. Spicy and sweet and crispy. A couple of plates of those with beer and you are in heaven. Perfect for the person starting to eat low to mid range spicy stuff.
Tacos were also really good and the churros for desert was great.
But the star is the wings with the Chilaquiles coming a very close second with the perfectly fried egg on top.grinks were all really good too, tomatoey beer was different but really good.
Staff were great
I can understand why the reviews are a bit hit and miss. They seem to really cut it fine on the set menu and bank on people spending it up big on drinks - which we did. That said, the food and atmosphere is on point (it was so busy when we went, the staff were turning walk-ins away every 15 min) but what won us over was the service. The waitstaff and kitchen were outstanding. Everything was well paced and well-attended with ample, but not overbearing attention on our table.
One minor hiccup towards the end was the somewhat awkward invitation to provide a tip towards our already ample bill - as a customary, non-tipping Aussie, I found the experience jarring. Perhaps staff could let diners go through the screen at their own leisure rather than pointedly gesturing towards the EFT function. But overall a delightful experience!
Awesome vibes and it's a great place for dinner. Staff were friendly and service was good but drink orders took a while. Overall, good food and would come again.
No one goes to Bodega Underground without getting the Elotes, Beef Birria Tacos and the Fish Tacos! Suss the feed me for the full Bodega experience!
Four of us ate here on Saturday and were told we were required to go with the 'feed me option' which we knew about, no problems.
We had to wait for our table outside despite having a booking. After ten minutes of waiting, I reminded the staff we hadn't sat down yet and they sat us down at an empty table.
Our server was awesome and looked after us very well. The drinks were great and came out quickly which was the best thing about the night. Nothing worse than being left to wait 15 minutes for a drink.
The food was sub par. The elote was delicious, as were the fish tacos, although I can't say much for the rest. The lamb ribs were cooked very well, however absolutely smothered in tamarind sauce which was overpowering. It didn't need it.
The cauliflower was average and very small for four people.
The Birria was so bland, and you get one tiny corn tortilla each. This was so disappointing as we were really looking forward to it. Again, the meat was nice and tender but the sauce was majorly lacking flavour.
We were given a beetroot salad (I think this is what it was?) after all the other food which was just cut up chunks of beetroot and I think Fennel? Very bland, we didn't finish it despite the fact that we were still hungry.
All in all, great service and drinks but sub-par food. Won't be back for that reason and would be hesitant to recommend.
Bottomless brunch
Honestly very disappointed with the bottomless brunch, they say 5 course meal.more like 5 side dish meals that are saltier then the dead sea and I’m not even exaggerating, the drinks were ok.atmosphere is great tho I liked that, the service could have been better, there was only one waitress that was nice the rest were sassy and rude even rolling there eyes at you. I wouldn’t recommend the bottomless brunch it’s a waste of money but for drinks MAYBE but everything just tasted like salt
Good value.food was alright, the actual place smelt kinda funny, like nappy whipes but the desgin of the place was sick! Wouldn't go again but deffinatly reccomend going at least once.
Delicious range of flavour in a single dish. Great vegan and vego options. Cute find and lovely low-key vibe. Keen to go again
We had tacos and cocktails—both were delicious and tasted very authentic. Great service and value for money, and also loved the dive bar vibe! Definitely a great refuge from the chilly Melbourne winter.
If you're looking for tasty Mexican cuisine, great cocktails, or kitchen and bar that's open until 3am, this is the place for you. Try the elotes!
After seeing this place in a top 10 list for best mexican restaurants in Melbourne, I was looking forward to eating there but it was unfortunately a disappointing experience.
Food was very average and the staff were distracted, unhelpful and at times a bit rude. One was on his mobile phone, surfing the internet while we sat two steps away.
Won't be going back, plenty of better mexican places in Melbourne.
I was so disappointed with the service we received a few weeks ago, the staff were so incredibly rude. Great food but unfortunately wont be back!
Coming into Melbourne this time around, one of the things I really wanted to do was a bottomless brunch. Being in easy convenience to where we are staying, this was our eventual choice.
Couldn't fault the experience in nearly every way, nut allergy was taken heed of with an alternative dish being offered. Only complaint was that this dish wasnt brought out at the same time as the normal one so that nearly ended in issues, but bar member caught on before I took a bite so thankfully crisis averted.
Food was amazing, drinks were amazing, and would recommend coming back again.
Get a better layout and don't be such rude asshats because you can't get around your own bar which God forbid has people in it wanting to be there. Great tequila, ok tacos, sour staff. Cheer up guys.
Went for bottomless brunch- bad service, not so great food. Drinks weren’t served when asked for- servers missed the drinks rounds. Food took forever and wasn’t too great- not worth the wait! Still left hungry. Definitely not worth $59 each! Such a waste!
Came for lunch and could hardly speak because the music was so loud. Didn't realise that they only serve a set menu for lunch as nowhere on the website does it say it's mandatory. Got kicked out after 2 hours because they'd booked our table to someone else. We hadn't even finished our drinks and they were practically standing over us making us get up from the table. Snarky wait staff. The food was awesome but the overall experience was pretty average. Won't be back.
Food's ok, they say unlimited cocktails but take too much time to bring 'em out to you. You'll pretty much eat and leave straight after to make room for the next booking as they book in time slots which aren't long enough for a little bigger group.
Sophie was an angel yesterday, thank you so much for saving my friend’s birthday. Great food excellent service.
The service and food was good but the drinks were pretty average. Basically cups of juice with a salt rim. We had 5 - 6 each and left completely sober. I'd have preferred to pay a bit more and either get proper cocktails rather than pre mixed juice or beer and wine. Left on a sugar high lol
