Blok M Express reviews
58Food is good but a bit overcooked. Service is really good. Atmosphere is good but the music is a bit too loud.
One of my favourite Melbourne restaurants. Great Indonesian food the beef ribs are so delicious!
After few month no come back to eat same food.we order iga bakar.the food meat good.only soup no hot and the rice so dry, cold and like no cook.we ask kitchen to change.we hope food same quality next time.
This was the first place we ate at in Melbourne, and it’s set such a great tone for the rest of our stay here. The Ayam Bakar was incredibly tender and succulent and the glaze on it was outstanding. The glaze on the lamb satay was excellent, too, and they’re generous with the peanut sauce. We also had chicken Nasi Goreng and that was wonderful. Lots of tender chicken pieces mixed in, and the rice itself had such a great flavour. The fried garlic really comes through, and there’s a taste that reminds me of Filipino bagoong that made it feel very homey and comforting for me. The staff were also so sweet.
I can't comment on other food but their Ayam Balado is so good! For Muslims who visit Melbourne, Block M Express is Halal as well. A must try.
Taste was okay, size of meal was pretty big. Soup was lukewarm. Price was pretty cheap but I guess you get what you pay for.
ORDERED:
Iga Bakar: marinated grilled lamb ribs served with sambal ($19.50)
Mie goreng: fried noodles with chicken/lamb/vegetarian ($16.00)
Teh Tarik: hot/cold milk tea ($5.00)
REVIEW:
Really great salty food at Blok M. The chef recommended dish, Iga Bakar, is definitely one to order. Lamb ribs that comes off from the bone so easily, while being so tender and its slightly sweet marinade is a dream.
There's a wonderful smoky flavour to the noodles, and has a thin layer of crisp in all the right places. It definitely satiates my noodle craving!
For two people, these two main dishes was enough. If you want to push yourself and try get an entree - it's doable but you'll be rolling out the door. I'm coming back for the food!
Service is self service (as you'd expect), with utensils by the counter. Water is nearby as well, and the service could be slightly better. She forgot our milk tea after our food came, but was waiting for her colleague to come back from her break (10 mins later) before we got our drinks midway through our food. Better late than never, I guess!
Blok M is a great affordable option, with some quality food. Can't believe I didn't discover this in uni - I would've been a regular here!
Authentic Indonesian Javanese food, the lamb and chicken were juicy with very tasty spicy sambal. Restaurant was clean with good customer service and pricing was reasonable.
The quality has become worse post lockdown. It seems like they dont really care about cleanliness and maintaining the place. The cutleries were dirty. I came with my husband last weekend and he ordered Gule Kambing, it was very disappointing. We were served with bones & fats WITHOUT actual meat. It was cold. Very watery and the staff filled the bowl completely that the soup spilled on plate it looks disgusting. We overheard the cashier who said they dont have enough change/cash so customers had to pay by card (+ surcharge) how is this even legal? ! Ridiculous place to dine in. But definitely a place for you if you dont care about hygiene or quality of food.
The service was really good and the food was amazing. The girl who taking order was very nice. My family and me enjoyed all foods. Would love to come again.
I had no idea that Indonesian Cuisine can produce a magnificent grilled fish dish to die for. I know I will be craving that unique Smokey sweet and savoury taste very soon. Try it out for yourself!
This is our go to place when in the city. My husband is obsessed with the ikan bakar (whole grilled fish), and I can't go past the nasi campur (grilled chicken, veg, egg). But plenty of options and everything I have tried has been excellent. Reliable every time, it's authentic delicious Indonesian food, with generous portions. The space is small so just go ahead of peak times to be sure of a table.
So disgusting found this hair in my food tell the waitress about the hair but the response really bad. Just tell them to more carefull and didn't ask for the new one but they just don't believe for their mistake. People sometimes do mistake but their response is UNACCEPTABLE!
I ordered Pecel lele and it was very bad, really salty. The sambal wasn’t nice at all, even servants in Indonesia will cook better. Very disappointed not recommended.
What a great friendly spot for that drop in drink. Loved seeing a it of old Melbourne architecture as well
The Ayam Balado was quite good. The chilli sauce was hot and the chicken was juicy inside and crispy on the outside. You just order and pay at the counter then take a number and sit at a table. Surcharge for credit cards, so use cash instead.
The Beef Ribs w/ Fried Rice Combo is just too good to handle! Afdordable, Delicious and Halal!

Really happy with the Javanese chicken dish. Really tasty and the sambal was a real winner. The place is quite simple, simple (but nice) service. Order at the register. Found it on a cheap eats list and was everything I hoped for. I will be back.
Honestly, my top 3 best indonesian place I've been to within the city.
3rd time visiting but only for takeaway but never dissapointed.
