Bleakhouse Hotel Pub Albert Park reviews
51Sky Disco on Sundays with the best DJ's and music you could ask for. Amazing atmosphere and friendly people.
Went for the Tuesday special for mussels. Ordered some starters too. I won't say the dishes are amazing but they came fast. The service was ok as the waitress was talking really quiet, could have spoken a bit louder so we could hear. 20 dollars for a pot of mussels was the sale point, taste average tho.
Absolutely love this place. Enjoyed our new year's lunch with my friends. Food is so delicious at a reasonable price. You can see the beach view and the interior is absolutely exquisite!
Unfortunately on a Sunday afternoon group drink, the barman left a lot to be desired with his attitude.
I understand that people are intense at the moment, however no need for the staff behind the bar to be outright rude…
As far as I could tell, fresh and trendy modern French Aussie fusion pub food. Open and warm eating area.
Great selection of beers (and bottled)
Wine list is awesome and really good value for a venue - decent wines at 45-70, on the beach front…unheard of.
Have to rate the chicken schnitty - so good.
Hanger steak is also a must, new cut for me, but now I’m converted.
Great hummus dip as a starter and oyster fridays are a no-brainer ($1-1.50 each)
Superb, melt-in-your-mouth roast lamb with a scintillatingly delicious sauce and crispy potatoes. Sleek and comfortable venue, very friendly service - and all opposite the beach. Perfect for a gorgeous winter's day.
Quite a nice lively spot with decent bar prices and a great location in Albert Park.
Can't wait to meet friends and watch a game here.
Ambience: Front sports bar has some large TVs and booths alongside with individual TVs in them for watching other games with friends. Unexpectedly, the rear has a beautiful contrasting quieter pub/restaurant area with a view on to the bay. Stylish fit out, modernised version of classic dark wood/leather, appropriate lighting. It really looks great.
Staff: Warm and attentive.
Drinks: Several beers on tap, pretty standard selection, no stout. Some interesting wines by the glass, priced $11-14. Good local bubbles (Mitchelton) and Laurent Perrier for fizz. A few classic cocktails offered.
Food: Great looking menu with a well-curated British-leaning selection of elevated pub classics and steaks.
Specific dishes tried:
- Chips: outstandingly good. Would come back just for these 5+/5
- Barnsley chop: Delighted to see on the menu. Perfectly cooked pink, a joyous piece of lamb. 5/5 (Weirdly came with bearnaise like the steaks do, but this was safely contained in a sauceboat that could be put to one side)
- “Proper pie” and mash: proper indeed, good shortcrust pastry, chunks of meat, good mash and gravy. Let down by heavy-handedness with rosemary etc that dominated too much - tasted minty rather than meaty - those flavours would have gone better with the lamb chop 4/5
- Apple pie: Apple turnover shaped, and unexpectedly seemed fried (air fried perhaps) rather than baked. Not really doing it credit to say this but it seemed like a kind of cheffed up version of the apple pies you get in McDonalds. It was absolutely delicious, cinnamony and crisp. But I was kind of looking forward to a more classic pie, so only 4/5.
- Sticky date pudding: Good but not quite bang on (more butterscotch, and simply pairing with vanilla ice cream for some needed contrast would have nailed it) 4/5
You can spend a long Sunday here in a booth watching footy. Good food and pleasant attentive staff. Pie of the day was great and better than expected.
The best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. Presented as a replica of serving it up in old newspaper, as they did in my youth, with the piėce de résistance of gem pickled onions. Solid fish in crispy yet light batter, with condiments of mashed peas and housemade tartare sauce, which could be eaten by itself on water crackers if you wished. Chaat style skinny chips which held their crispness to the finish. Recommended.
Update late Apr2021: On this visit also had a dessert of Double chocolate cake with poached rhubarb, honeycomb and crème fraiche. Not quite death by chocolate! Rich dark chocolate essence, not sweet, yet light; I was happy that it was not a large piece. Offset by the acidity of the rhubarb, with a smooth, slightly sour finish provided by the crème fraiche. Honeycomb gives just a little sweetness and crunch. Lovely.
Had the ploughman's platter a few times, can be a nice chill place.booths with tv's.nice cocktails
Made all of welcome
. Beer great
Food etc excellent.
Great place to spend a Saturday afternoon with friends
big thankyou
Good experience overall, great food, great decor, flawless service, reasonably priced menu for such amazing food. Thank you. Deft come back - well recommended
It's a place where you can chill out in the courtyard or be "all in" outside.
The beach (across the road) can't get much better than that.
The staff here are awesome, from across the world, the food here, delicious, every thing you need is here.
There's another adjoining bar, real cute. Has the pokies and TAB.
ALL ROUNDER for anyone.
My go to pub in the area
Delicious food
Friendly staff
Really big place so there’s always a table!
Well located venue across the road from the beach.
We have used this venue for corporate functions a few times recently and its always pretty good.
We booked the Bleakhouse for our best friends Bridal Shower/Hens Day and it was fantastic. Anna and the team were so accommodating in the lead up to the event and on the day, we got to have our own amazing space up stairs with a balcony with amazing views of the bay! The bartender made the most amazing Pimm's cocktails all day, and there was so much delicious food. Would highly recommend!
As of 2020 this place has had a make over. It’s quite inviting and they have daily specials. The gambling pub is completely seperate and that vibe doesn’t intrude on the flip side.
$1 oysters! What else can I say. Be early though as they ran out within 30mins of me ordering (6pm). Onion rings and fries were super oily, so I’d suggest to stay away from those.
