Bistro La Provence reviews
54The service is extremely delayed, with multiple errors in orders; the food is prepared very slowly; not even close to the expectation from a French bistro;
Outstanding food, service, ambiance and atmosphere. I highly recommend.
Exceeded my expectations! Can’t wait to go back.
Warm and cozy place for dinner, good taste and atmosphere, beef cheeky is tender, we would like to try other dishes next time!
Amazing meal, service and venue. Exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended. Will be back
We had a good evening experience at Bistro La Provence. The staff were attentive and friendly. The wine list was good and the food was well considered with good flavours, quality and presentation. On the down side, it's quite dark in the venue of an evening making it harder to read the menus and probably not doing them any favours, as they do say we eat with our eyes. The Duck confit was good but the orange sauce dominated and there were not sufficient potatoes or lardons. Again due to the low light it was hard to discern between the two in the dish also. The fish of the day was nice and fresh and was paired nicely with a sauce. Overall we will return as the menu was well rounded and had some tasty items we want to go back and try.
I don’t understand the great reviews. Having been to many French restaurants in Melbourne and in France itself, this doesn’t pass muster.
The service was slow, we were not asked if we wanted a pre dinner drink, other than water. They were seriously understaffed and what I presume was the maître d’ was only ever seen running between the kitchen and station, with little effect.
The menu wasn’t explained eg none the wiser as to what the fish of the day was. The confit de carnard was over cooked and stringy and the orange sauce bitter from being burnt.
We were told that there was a 2nd sitting, when booking, but I don’t see how that could have worked given by the time we finished main course and entrees, it was past our time.
The best part was the snails which were excellent and I could not flaw. Same with the spinach, but then it is only spinach.
Certainly not worth the price tag or reviews it attracts.
Absolutely love this Restaurant. The ambience, everything is finessed and the food melts in your mouth! Fine dining experience. Service is very friendly. Hidden gem. We keep going back for more. The wine selection is also great!
Food was exceptional, it was my first time experiencing french food and the quality of it was superb, escargots were my favourite. Located right next to the beach, this is definitely a place i would check out again. The inside of the hotel really takes you to another time- highly recommend for date night- planning to take my partner there
Great restaurant with housemade French dishes and a beautifull indoor design.
Staff was friendly and welcoming.
I've been a bit disappointed by the shredded confit duck paté due to a lack of seasonning or by the snails in garlic butter parsley. This last one was a re-visited recipe, Which did not have this deep taste as expected.
However, the beef cheek Bourguignon with vegetables and the confit duck leg with orange sauce were tasty and delicious.
The crêpes Suzette flambee with Grand Marnier was good and well served. Do not recommended this one for those not drinking alcohol, as it is strong.
We had an amazing dinner. Have been wanting to come for a long time and finally made it. The ambience is very up market French The service is impeccable.
All up s wonderful experience
Perfect little restaurant for a special meal. The service was on point. Food was exceptional. Will definitely come again.
Bistro La Provence is a lovely restaurant offering authentic French cuisine. Everything is carefully prepared, presented and delicious! The food is wonderful, not too salty, a perfect balance of flavours. I highly recommend the fois gras and steak tartare as entree dishes. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with fireplaces lit and ambient lighting. Staff are friendly and pay close attention to details - In the booking notes, I included information around allergies and a request for a candle in my friend's dessert for her birthday, both items were addressed at our table without needing to remind staff. Well done to Laurent, Lindsay and the team! Looking forward to visiting again.
From the outside this place looks underwhelming, but inside you’ll find it’s a beautiful hidden gem!
Beautiful elegant and spacious dining room with a lovely ambiance.
The service was absolutely sensational and never missed a beat, from start to finish.
Fantastic food menu- French at its best. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. The crab croquettes, the confit duck, and chocolate hazelnut pudding were absolutely sensational.
Great wine list too.
Overall a really wonderful night out - everything was perfection.
Food and wine list is always good, wait staff is a little challenged during this covid period, but i wouldn't mark that against them.
How good is this place? The food was absolutely delicious, the wine was great and the service was perfect! The room feels like you're having dinner at your French friend's house, so cozy! Book this spot right now!
Always a lovely meal.
Fantastic team with owner working from kitchen to tables and bar.
Authentic with a great wine list.
Really really good, total surprise walking in the door, and the food and service didn't disappoint.
A fantastic date night with the beloved. The Scotch fillet was delicious but the Creme Brulee was magnifique! My wife assurese that the Vacherin was also excellent.
An excellent French restaurant just opposite Royal Brighton Yacht Club.
The ambience of the restaurant is very relaxing with soft jazz music. Service is great as the staff’s very attentive and explains the menu well.
The food’s great starting from the bread which is imported from France that goes very well with cold butter. We had the escargot entree and it’s delicious. Both the mains, pan fried Barramundi and Confit duck leg in orange sauce, are delicious.
There’s a good choice of French and Australian wines to go with the meal, we chose a French white (Vouvray) which is semi-sweet, goes well with the fish and duck.
We didn’t have dessert as that’s enough for lunch, had a very good cup of flat white to finish up a nice meal.
Closed borders are not a thing when you can go to France right here in Brighton. Absolutely fabulous meal!
