It's was a very nice and peaceful holiday.
Lovely kind staff and wonderful facilities.
The only downfall would of been the pool is off site and extra cost to use which was a bummer. But overall enjoyable stay.

Stayed here two nights just for a family weeekend getaway.
Likes: 1. Great customer service. Jane at the reception is very friendly. There are constant and effective communication from the campsite via messages before, during and after the trip. 2. Very clean toilet, shower room and kitchen. 3.good location. The mill, pool and botanic garden are all walking distance.
Areas for improvement: 1. It’d be great if there are more kid-friendly facilitates. They have go carts for rent, a jumping pillow and a game room at the moment. 2. We got a site that doesn’t have trees to provide shade.

Beautiful park but make sure you see your sight before you set up.
Because of Covid you have to pay in full
When you book and if there is a lockdown and you have to leave, there is no refund and that was ok with us but we thought we could come back another time to get our money's worth.
No definitely not.

We stayed in the Safari tent and it was superb. From the lovely interior, to the serene view of the Botanic gardens from the large covered timber deck, it really made our time in Castlemaine extra special. We're looking forward to our next visit and have recommended the Big 4 in Castlemaine to our friends and family.

Whilst not the best caravan park we have stayed at, I have stayed here a couple of times now and will certainly be back again.
I was surprised by some people's comments about the operators. We have found them to be fantastic. Nothing was a problem to any of the staff.
All the amenities and park were clean and well maintained.
Would certainly recommend it to anyone.

Great property. We stayed in the safari tent which overlooked the beautiful botanic gardens. Felt like you were camping in the forest. Wonderfully appointed, everything you needed was there, including a claw foot bath on the deck with fairy lights! Very spacious with enough room to take 4 adults comfortably and the shower is huge! The furniture was comfortable but a little low for older people of those with restricted mobility. In saying that, the staff are amazing and were more than happy to get us some different chairs to sit on, so we were well looked after. The tent, despite appearances, is really a tent with fly screen doors and windows etc.which is just so so lovely. When it rains on the canvas it sounds amazing, and the tent is super secure. The camp kitchen is cozy and also well appointed and very clean. Would definately stay here again!

Great place overlooking the beautiful Botanic Gardens, amenities are modern, lovely and clean, great camp kitchen with an open fire - wood provided, jumping pillow for the kids. Dump point. Some sites aren't as level as others. Lots to like about this place

Dingy, overpriced park. Small, dirt site for $60. Let's down the Big 4 brand with substandard environment and management. Definitely need rudimentary lessons on how to deal with the public in a professional and friendly way.

You will get told to go to bed at 10: 00pm! It is like being treated as a child! Even if you are just quietly sitting around the campfire chatting. Will not be coming back to this caravan park as being told off leaves a sour taste. Ruined a great weekend catching up with people!

Castlemaine is a beautiful town but wouldn't stay at this park again. While the staff were friendly, the one night charge of $48 for a powered site was quite excessive. The site we were given was the worst we have encountered in many years of caravanning. There was no way the van could be anywhere near level on the very sloping, muddy site riddled with large exposed tree roots. A big disappointment for a Big 4 park and certainly over-priced.

My brother and I agree the self contained cabin was great, better than a motel room.we will be recommending the Big4 to our friends.

Very average, especially for a Big4.

While the customer service was great from the ladies who took our booking and the grounds keeper - the sites were appalling.

Without the grounds keeper providing us with a sleeper and stacks and stacks of timber, we would never have been able to level our van - they booked our 8m van on a site that really shouldn't be used for more than a tent and we were told once we were setting up, that the sites had been re-classified.

We were not allowed to speak outside the van after 10pm as the creepy noise police visited us to suggest that we cease speaking quietly outside of our van on a friday night of a long weekend. This was not detailed in the terms and conditions of our booking.

The only facilities for kids/families, was a jumping pillow, which didn't even have any shade.

The swimming pool next door is run by the council and they will tell you that the caravan park have vouchers so you can come and go as you please, however the caravan park do not have these so you have to pay every time you enter the pool. No playground either - doesn't really hit the Big4 brand.

We also discovered once we arrived that although it is a dog friendly park, there are no places within the caravan park that dogs are actually allowed to be walked other than your site. Technically you aren't even allowed to walk them within the park or out the entrance/exit of the park.

For standard Big4 rates, this park did not hit the mark at all. Incredibly disappointing and while Castlemaine was a gorgeous town, we certainly would not recommend this caravan park to anyone looking for somewhere to stay!

A disappointment for a Big4 brand caravan park.
The place was beautifully treed & well looked after.
Even the train station nearby wasn’t a noise problem for us.
Our en-suite caravan site was on dirt. Admittedly is was very dry & very warm when we stayed.
Our en-suite was clean.
We were quite disappointed that the photos of a pool, that, for all intents & purposes looked like it was on site, was actually the municipal pool next door. There was no access to it from the caravan park!
On all the information made available it said that the reception was open until 6.30pm. This was not the case. Our first day, 5.15pm I went to get ice, it was closed. Each evening we were there I checked & yep they were shut before 5.30pm.
I think they really need to update their information!
Castlemaine is such an interesting town. If we do go back we won’t be staying at the Big4.

We stayed at this big 4 and believe me, the staff are just lovely. I ended up in the castlemaine hospital for 2 days longer than we had paid for so they waived the price for the extra stay and then offered a free 2 nights because we were unable to enjoy Castlemaine due to my stay in the hospital. Just a great place and beautiful with the walking tracks, parks and all it, s history.

Shady park with clean amenities. Highly recommended as a place to stay. Right beside the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens.
