Woolmers Estate reviews
46I was hooked listening to the story behind this beautiful property and the history. Take a trip back in time!
We stayed 2 nights in the Gardeners Cottage. We went on both the House and the Convict tours. Also spent time wandering around the Estate and visited the Rose Garden. Could have spent more time in the Art Gallery. Cafe food was Awesome.
It’s well worth visiting this estate.
Had an excellent guided tour with Margaret who was a wealth of information.
Then capped it off with the best meal in Tassie. Such a beautiful setting too.
Well done to all.
Very nice historical area to wander around. Lovely gardens, nice set up. Very good lunch. Helpful staff, unfortunately no tours due to sickness. If you only have time for one, do Brickendon instead, but it is good to see both.
Woolmers Estate - One of eleven Australian convict sites awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2010.
From entry to exit the staff were so helpful and informative. They are obviously as enchanted as we were by this incredible piece of history.
Go, take your time, soak in the history and smell the roses. It's worth it!
The estate was owned and built by Thomas Archer I, and then subsequently owned by six generations of Thomas Archers. Sadly, when Thomas Archer VI died in 1994 there were no heirs. The property and its contents were bequeathed to the Archer Historical Foundation, now the Woolmers Foundation.
Over the six generations things were subsequently added and changed, but the heart of the estate is essentially as it was 200 years ago. It is quite an amazing property to walk around. The main house is entry by tour only. We did the house tour and the convict tour and thoroughly enjoyed them both. You are guided by volunteers who know their stuff and their delivery shows the passion they have for this amazing property and its history.

So we were at The Eleanor for first class Dinner on the last night of Titanic.
We dressed for the occasion in fashion of the day.
The food was excellent and the occasion was fabulous with live music and Cam’s vintage car.
I look forward to the next fabulous occasion. Well done Haley Renee and your fabulous crew.
A little too steep price to pay during winter as there is no garden. $29/pax. It is a historical place and massive compound with well maintained rose garden.
Unfortunately didn't get to visit as it was closed our way to Hobart & was closed & no guided tours on our way back, 3.5 weeks later. Definitely wanted to visit as had ancestor (convict) working there.
Must be quite a few ppl work here to keep this place going. But no 1 could tell me how many it's a shame even the ppl in the shop couldn't tell me. Maybe this should be known or how many volunteers.
Thoroughly enjoyed our morning wandering the grounds and buildings plus the beautiful rose garden. Would love to visit in November when the blooms are at their best.
Nice to see and check out what it was like back in the day.
Good food, old bikes and art to see.
What a fascinating place to see. We did the guided tour of the Homestead. Our Guide was a distant relative of the original owners and very knowledgeable. The Rise garden was something to see and smell. Loved our visit there.
A beautiful place to visit. When we were there, there was a car club event so it was very busy, a good wait for cups of tea and coffee. I’m sure they did their best to get everyone sorted.
An interesting art collection in the gallery and the buildings ĥold a lot of colonial history. Worth a walk around to see the rose garden when in bloom.
Didn’t get to see as we arrived at 2.35pm and could not enter website says closes at 3.30pm
Very disappointed
Will have to wait till we come back from WA now
We saw Brickenden that was fabulous
Fascinating piece of Tasmanian heritage. Lovely relaxing grounds, well presented and delicious dining
This place is worth 10 stars. We paid the full price to get the guided tours through the house and convict tour. For the 3 and a half hours there, I could have stayed longer to take more in. Very informative and well worth the visit. This is a must see but you have to go on the tours to get in the house and see the amazing history that stands still. It will blow you away.
Just stumbled across this historic gem heading south. Worth a look if you're into old cars, old buildings, photography or gardens
Beautiful place to visit, very close to Launceston. Highly recommend the guided tour, we had Paul as guide and he was very insightful and really helped us picture how life must have been back in the days of the first settlers.
A wonderful place to visit, full of history. A must if you visit Longford. Beautiful gardens & historic buildings. Tours are available. There is also a really nice restaurant there with a gorgeous outlook, plus accomodation.
