Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary reviews
66 Amazing open-concept wildlife sanctuary with heaps of space to wander about. There aren’t a huge range of animals but their cause makes it meaningful. This last minute visit was probably the best thing we could’ve done.
You don’t feel cramped or rushed. It gets a bit quiet which gives you plenty of time to wander around the entire place and appreciate the animals.
Most of the animals were really active and playful which was great. There’s also an open field filled with kangaroos, geese, swans and ducks. You can purchase feeding bags at the information counter.
There are free tours which covers certain animals in detail so keep your ears open for announcements over the PA system. We absolutely loved the tour by Dean.
Came upclose and personal with a baby wombat. We even got to pet it! We also got to see a feeding of the tasmanian devils, which was cool.
We highly recommend visiting this sanctuary as all entry tickets ($28 per pax) goes towards their cause of breeding and protecting animals
Great sanctuary doing great work with the devils and other native species. Definitely worth a visit. Totally relying on visitors with no government funding. Is a must stop. Worth supporting. Dean gave us a tour and is a great asset to the sanctuary. Very knowledgeable.
Fantastic place to see native animals & learn about them. This facility focuses on rehabilitation of orphaned or injured animals in addition to breeding programs & education.
Wonderful place to visit. Lovely surrounds and a great range of native animals. I definitely recommend doing the interactive tour that comes with entry - very knowledgeable about the animals. And of course, visiting the sanctuary supports their research and preservation efforts.
There was a great atmosphere of an old-style animal sanctuary about this place where the animals were able to roam free and interact with visitors. The guides were well-informed and spoke passionately about their conservation efforts particularly for certain endangered species. It's unfortunate that places like this rely on tourism to keep afloat rather than on funding supplied by the government, given the good work these sanctuaries do.
Fabulous day out. Very impressed with knowledgeable staff and really enjoyed close encounters with the animals. Learnt such a lot. Recommend it for both oldies and children.
This is a wonderful sanctuary to visit. Would highly recommend doing one of the free tours, as the staff are so knowledgeable and it was a great opportunity to learn more about these amazing animals. Worth the visit, you won't regret it!
An excellent place to learn about tasmanian devils, quolls & wombats.the free interactive tour was very educational.heaps of roos to play with, they were very social.a 10% discount off your entry ticket if you have your mole creek cave ticket.worth visiting.
A lovely Sanctuary, dedicated breeding program for the tassie devils. Entry fee includes a talk on some of the quolls, devils, wombats etc
Put Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary at the top of your list of things to do. Besides having a great time - you are helping support local wildlife. The staff are brilliant and the animals are looked after brilliantly. QUOLLITY time spent at Trowunna. We will be back and can't wait to do so. We will remember this day always such an amazing time up close and personal with some of Tassie's most amazing creatures.
Awesome to see the animals very close. Great photo ops. Guides are very knowledgeable.
If you visit the Mole Creek Caves first, you get a discount here.
More interesting than we thought it would be. We spent more time there than we anticipated. Our guide was friendly and informative.
Got to watch the Devils devour their food, then feeding the roos straight from our hands.
The enclosures are very well done to imitate the natural habitats of the animals, clearly this place is all about the animals, well done! Extremely knowledgeable and dedicated staff doing really good, scientically based work for these orphaned and injured creatures. Learning about wombats, devils and quolls was the highlight of my whole trip, extremely impressed with Trowunna!
A great little wildlife sanctuary to visit. It's along the way to Mole Creek Caves and is worth the visit.
The people there are informative, friendly and accommodating. They have free daily tours that are on at certain times, so check out their schedule. If not they have the option to book group or VIP tours.
The highlight for me and my wife was seeing the pair of Albino Magpies and handfeeding the kangaroos.
A great park to visit for anyone like us who isn't a big fan of zoos, as they have an extremely ethical and conservational ran program here. It was great to have a tour of all the animals and see a live feeding of the tassie devils, as well as hand feed the kangaroos/wallabies in the park. Highly recommend!
Lady at the desk wasn’t very friendly, she kinda shouted at us to scan the QR code and to sanitise our hands, sold us a cap that came apparent before we walked out the door that it was too small for my child and she refused to let me change it for something better fitting because we already had the tag removed, there wasn’t much to look at, just saw a few animals such as Tassie Devils, Wallabies, Eagles. Definitely wasn’t worth the $75 for us to enter.
An interesting well managed facility. The tour was well worth while and a very interesting introduction to some of Australia's marsupial carnivores. Recommended.
This was definitely a highlight of our Tassie trip. Amazing to see and get so close to so many Tassie devils and to see them being fed. Brilliant tour and oversight of the rescue and rehabilitation program run here. Such a better experience than the larger or upmarket tourist zoos.
The guided tour is definitely worth waiting for.
The animals were very alert around their carers. You could tell they were happy and well looked after. This sanctuary was incredibly good for its occupants and us- visitors.
FYI, it's entirely funded by its visitors.
Excellent experience, which was enjoyed by our family (2 adults - 2 kids). Our guide was very informative and entertaining, and we ended up spending much longer wandering around than what we planned.
