Fantastic stay in the Settlers Hut for 5 nights. Quiet, secluded but fully equipped for the stay. Great base for the Derby & St Helen MTB trails.

We stayed there for 3 days and we absolutely loved that place.

Cottage was well equipped and it was beautiful.

We really enjoyed the outdoor spa. It's an ideal place for star gazing as well, but unfortunately, it was cloudy in the night when we were there.

Our host Graham was very friendly and he gave us a tour around his property showing us his mini hydro generating plant and the rooftop solar system. On the following day, he took us to feed the Alpacas.

Both Graham and Cristine are lovely and told us the beautiful places around that area to visit.

We highly recommend this place and we look forward to visit this place again.

Such a pleasure to stay at these wonderful cottages, clean, comfortable, and with a great fire place. The walks along the river were very relaxing & peaceful, listening to the quietness & the birds was a highlight for me.

It's a great location. Very helpful hosts who provide plenty of information on activities and locations worth visiting in surrounding areas. Graham also showed me the micro-hydro system providing power to the premises

We have stayed here a number of times and simply love coming back! Absolutely beautiful location - a wonderful getaway to catch your breath and slow down. Comfy, well-equipped and clean accommodation - all this make us repeat visitors.

The most relaxed we have been in a while!
We stayed at the Tin Dragon cottages for 3 nights and definitely will return. Graham and Christine have created an accommodation that makes you feel relaxed and stress free. A herd of 10 Alpacas, and the out door spas make for a memory to never forget. The energy efficient and thoughtfully created cabins are clean and well appointed. With historic walks, an on site hydro power station, electric car chargers, a river walk.the list goes on.
Feeding and walking the alpacas and working the sawmill are experience's I will never forget
On top of everything that Tin Dragon Trail cottages provide, Graham, Christine and James go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and almost a part of the family.

A weekend getaway was what we needed so ‘The Tin Dragon’ cottages was our chosen destination.

The small signage pointing down a lonely track was a little ordinary until we passed the entrance sign where the peaceful ambience presented itself which is what we were hoping for.

Although the owner was pleasant the reception area itself could do with some TLC, first impressions are lasting.

The short drive to the cottage is somewhat scenic as you pass through a forested area.

The stone cottage that we are staying in for the night fits with the landscape although the large shed viewed from the outdoor spa takes away from the ambience.

The inside of the cottage is well equipped and provides a feeling of comfort to ward off the winter chill.

With that said a visit to the outdoor spa cannot be ignored although the Alpacas who wander off as we enjoy this momentary pleasure may not agree.

Feeling adventurous, a second dip after dinner allows us a very unique experience in the darkness, closer to nature.

A little on the pricey side but the outdoor spa was the draw card, as we are celebrating our 4.5 month wedding anniversary (seems to be one every month…) we’re happy to indulge.

3.5 to 4 stars here, a little more privacy would enhance the experience although getting lost in the bubbles of our awesome spa experiences certainly make up for it….

Perfect spot for a quiet and relaxing break. Plenty to see and do in the local area. The cottages are excellent and the whole place is a credit to the owners. There are kayaks to use in the river and alpacas that feed and wander around past the cottages. Highly recommended

I can’t recommend this place enough, it is more the just accommodations it is an experience. We stayed in Ah Back for three nights after three attempts to get here due to Covid. Christine and Graham were so accommodating. We arrive to freshly made hot cross buns. The cottage was so warm and comfortable with everything you needed and more. Graham Brough us one more to feed the alpaca and meet the chicks. We have numberous baths outside under the stars and during the day. We had a bonfire one night and meet other guests who were staying where we hung by the river. We even took their kayaks out and went up the river an bit and also explored their beautiful property by foot on the sculptures walk. It was such a pleasure to meet Christine, Graham and their son James they invited us in made us coffee and more hot cross buns. They are such lovely and interesting people to chat to. Thanks you again for the amazing stay we will definitely be back. But to anyone look for a place to stay in this area or close to it. All I can say is book here it’s amazing and only a short cycle away to Derby and all the Montain biking tracks

Second time staying at Tin Dragon and it was just as brilliant as the first visit. The grounds are gorgeous, cottages are very well equipped and how can you resist the resident alpaccas! Thank you Graham, Christine and James for providing such a beautiful little oasis to escape to.

Tin Dragon Cottages was a great venue for a small group art retreat. The hosts, Christine, Graham, and their son James, could not have worked harder to make the group feel welcome and part of their special family. I had hiccups with my travel and I was able to stay an extra night, allowing me to soak up the quiet beauty of the property. Sketching the river and walking around the alpaca paddocks was a real treat. The accommodation was a two bedroom cottage, although I was travelling alone. The cottage was very well appointed, hand made soap included and very comfortable. While the property is set up for independent travellers, self-catering, we were treated to some beautifully prepared meals and great coffee. The artist for the retreat was amazing. Jules Sharman paced the skill learning according to the group and surveyed us all for our particular requests. Each new skill was welcomed by all the participants. The attendees were great company, couldn’t have wished for better a better tutor, or better company, or better hosts. Thank you everyone.

I mistakenly booked this accommodation not realising there are two Tin Dragons (on opposite sides of the state). When talking with the owners about booking the confusion should have been obvious (as they knew there were two). When realising the error all I received was an unsympathetic T and C argument (ie not even a partial refund), sarcasm, and that my booking had restricted others from booking, even though we both knew they had no bookings for any of their cottages the whole weekend. Our elopement in Tasmania after being separated for two years was magical and the people of Tasmania wonderful. The only sour taste was this experience. Like you would treat all dragons, encounter at your own peril.

Thoughtful touches, amazing property with the option to explore the area or do nothing and reconnect with nature. Everything has been well-maintained and kitchen is very well-equipped. Loved the outdoor hot tub and was great to unwind and relax. Thank you also for the welcome basket with all the homemade goodies! We really enjoyed learning the history of the area and loved how Graham and Christine have honoured the past. Their family is extremely friendly and warm - even inviting us to have a NYE barbie by the river. It was the perfect place for us to slow down, reflect on 2021 and ring in the new year. We had the best time and highly recommend to anyone!

This is our fourth time staying at Tin Dragon Trail Cottages and we'll undoubtedly be back. It's one of our favourite Tassie destinations. Graham, Christine & James' warm hospitality, the beautiful local produce basket on arrival, the stunning location (complete with platypus in the river and friendly alpacas), and the well equipped cottages with amazing attention to detail - it all makes for a wonderful stay. We love going there for a retreat from the world.or to use it as a base to visit the many local attractions. Thanks once again.and until next time.

Tin Dragon Cottages were fabulous. We stayed for 1 night for our anniversary. It was so relaxing after a big day bike riding at Derby. It was nice and close too. They have thought of everything. Such a beautiful spot. The hosts were very friendly and you can see they put alot of working into these Cottages. Well done! We will definitely be coming back again to stay in the future.

This place has it all! Comfortable accommodation, amazing outdoor spa and so much to do onsite! I stayed here for two nights, was travelling solo and had just the most special time. I cant wait to come back with my family. There is the most incredible river that winds around the property which feels like your on the set of Lord Of The Rings, or The Hobbit. The hosts are so sweet and go out of their way to help you get the most out of exploring their property as well as the surrounding area. Between the outdoor star gazing from the hot tub, the alpacas, the enchanting river and the incredible trails through untouched wilderness, this place is a rare mix of so many wonderful things, at a really great price point. Cant wait to get back here with my friends and family! Thank you for having me!

Such a beautiful area of Tasmania. The visit was a special 30th birthday present for my daughter and it was perfect. All the little comforts of home with the romantic bath on the outside deck, overlooking the views.
