The Whaler reviews
73I have never left a one star review but I feel for here it is necessary. Do not waste your money on the lobster roll, it was really disappointing, especially as it is advertised as world famous. I have had many lobster rolls in my life and this was by far the worst, maybe other things are good but as their main advertised item I expected more from it. Barely any lobster in roll and what was there was totally taken over by the dill and mayo sauce. Wait staff were fine, I’m sure they were short staffed, but a little rude and didn’t seem happy to be there. I work in hospitality and I am rarely happy to be there but I never scowl at customers. Overall really unhappy as I was the one that suggested this place after hearing good things.
For a pub this was great, lobster roll was great and Parma with gravy on the side was really good. Pork tacos were so stacked with meat. Sure there are better tacos in some places but these were better than many from some Mexican restaurants I’ve been to
A Lobster roll seemed impossible to find in Hobart until we stumbled upon this gem. It was delicious and hit the spot. The staff were great, super friendly. Great cocktails and beers available and fun vibe, thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this place.
The perfect spot to either watch the world go by outside or warm up inside by the open fire. Great friendly staff
A great little pub by the water. We rolled up at 10: 30pm on a Tuesday night and the staff were more than happy to serve us. Good range of beers on tap and a few others in the cabinets. Nice outdoors seating vibe.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Great service. Will definitely come again! Lobster roll is to die for
You must visit The Whaler it’s an amazing pub with great food and lots of drinks to choose from. Have you ever tried a cucumber, mint gose beer, thats sour and salty. It’s awesome, your mind struggle to figure out what your palette is tasting, its from another planet, it’s delicious. Highly recommend this place.
A very vibey bar with a dark and warm atmosphere. Beautiful stained glass and wooden beams throughout the bar. Very friendly staff too!
Ok I guess. The lamb loaded fries were a generous serve but the "famous" lobster roll was small, limp and whatever lobster was there, was drowned in the salad and sauce. (I'm guessing frozen lobster due to the lack of any texture.)
I was mistreated at the entrance of the bar by rude security guard without reason, I was not even drinking! So, they could not tell that I was drunk. Never will come back
Our first stop on arrival in Hobart. Could not go past the lobster roll! Enjoyed afternoon beverage and snacks and was back the following night for after dinner drinks. Worth a visit, staff are friendly and wines are on point!
Beautiful, laid back spot with a fireplace.
I took the plunge and tried the Sournade blue craft beer and i loved it. Perfect place to sit for a while and relax.
Ordered World Famous Lobster Roll.nice lettuce and Mayo.very little Lobster.very disappointed. Someone else in group had Fillet Steak.on tough side. Wines very overpriced.on plus side, schnitzels pretty good
Rip off World famous rock lobster roll $27 when lobster $30 market price yet very little meat in roll. Very disappointing
Amazing food, with a real warm open fireplace. Children loved their meals & the steak was perfectly cooked. Staff are very friendly with very prompt service. We all loved the Whaler.
The mussels are to die for! If they have them on, I cannot advise you enough! GO HERE!
My wife had the mussels, and I had the lamb souvlaki. I was well jel of the mussels, however, the lamb was bonkers good also.
Good beer selection and nice setting
We stopped by for a cocktail and pizza during Dark Mofo and loved this place, friendly and attentive staff, great cocktail list and the pizza was great.
Cosy and warm atmosphere with great drinks on tap. The sausage fennel gnocci was perhaps the best I've had. It just melted in my mouth. Although, the portion was quite small and didn't completely satisfy (we ordered extra loaded lamb fries to compensate). While the burger was just another good burger, the Chicken Parmy was incredible. Would definitely come here again when in Hobart and would recommend to others.
My first ever non 5 star review. Lobster roll was very tasty but geez she’s small. Still a hungry hungry boy
Nice local pub but limited seating for meals at peak time.
Good drinks with a huge range of spirits and good food.
