The Royal Oak Hotel reviews
48The food was awesome - the vegan vegetables was the most delicious hotel meal I have ever had, down to the last bite. The music was good too.
We had dinner here Friday night. It was so relaxed and calm in the restaurant. The food was sublime, the staff so professional and genuinely warm and attentive. We had a wonderful time.
Amazing food, staff are super friendly and nothing is to much trouble for them. I would highly recommend the royal oak hotel
This place comes highly recommended and deservedly so, great range of beers and a very cosy atmosphere. Definitely going back!
Delicious meal and delightful private room upstairs. All seven of us thoroughly enjoyed our steaks, salmon and calamari. Great service and a lovely surprise at the end of the meal, the dessert was to die for. Chocolate mousse and a peanut brittle tuille. Good value. MMMMMMMmmmmmm
A London style pub, small and comfy.
Great service from all staff, Nick was particularly awesome!
Good hard rock music over the speakers but still easy to talk, no doff doff!
You want a comfy pub in Launceston with good, friendly service and a good range of drinks. The Royal Oak.
Now nicknamed the Royal choke. Used to love hitting this joint up when I visited Launceston, but was recently disappointed with the serving size of their meals. Ordered a large Gnocchi for 25 bucks that barely touched the sides and then had to order a pizza down the street afterwards. Would of loved to have seen the small size for 18 bucks. Another pub falling victim to the toffee nose world.
Well done to the Royal Oak " Team". The new refurbishment gives this Launceston " institute" a new updated look, and FINALLY! A casual place we all can eat and NOT be disappointed. (The front room's ambience my favourite spot) I have now eaten here the past weeks and have tried most dishes on the menu. The best oysters (freshly shucked!) ocean trout, pork belly, calamari, all the side dishes, locally sourced meat, all mouth watering with the freshest quality ingredients (locally sourced as I asked management) My history is in the food and beverage industry, so I know my quality. WELL DONE CHEF for making such simply food, taste so delicious. You've got me hooked! The service and bar team are also doing a great job!
It's not the Royal Oak it's a Royal Joke! On arrival we had to wait at least 5 minutes to be seated for our booking while staff just walked past ignoring us. Once we were seated and ordered, it took well over an hour for our meals to arrive and when they did boy they were a disappointment! We ordered the fish of the day which was trout with a side of mash and butter beans, when it arrived the mash was cold, the trout (aka salmon) was raw and the beans were tipped from a can! Another meal ordered was the rump steak with mushroom gravy and a side salad well when that arrived the steak was as tough as my old blundtones, the gravy didn't even resemble any form of mushroom and the side salad was MIA. The third meal was salt and pepper squid and if you love citric acid poured down your mouth, this meal is for you! The coating on the squid left a metallic and acidic taste in your mouth which was most unpleasant and the squid also resembled my blunnies. After taking the squid back to the kitchen we were told that that's the way it is! Admittedly they did make a pretty good gnocchi but paying over $100 for dinner you would expect more.
Had a fantastic meal with a friend here on Thursday night. Food was excellent, extremely well presented and good honest pub meals with a modern twist and great selection of side dishes. Great ambiance and a lovely host. Will definitely be back.
We had a perfect meal out with friends! Exceptional food with large portion sizing and a top dessert to finish the meal, great service and a warm atmosphere- highly recommend!
Had an amazing Sunday lunch with great music at the Oak today. Love the new menu and tip my hat to the chef who is creating culinary delights to suit all dietary needs. I’m coeliac and they made sure my meal was just right. Vegan offerings as well. All our group were very very happy. Congrats to Wendy and her fab team. Thanks
Best meal I’ve had in a long time. Amazing flavour (I had the vegan dish). Great value with generous portions. The kids loved the fish and chips. Really happy with the service but most importantly I loved having a meal with live music. We had jazz and the atmosphere was relaxed yet classy. Loved it.
Amazing Sunday Roast! Thanks to the cool staff for the delicious food (and the tip not to miss the dessert.) plus to the great band playing live over lunch. I’d move to Launceston for a pub this good ;)
Poor quality service no salad or veg? And burnt food served up with dried out chips, I complained and was completely ignored! New owners have dropped the ball completely!
I went to the Sunday roast and enjoyed wonderful live music from talented performers. The service is very friendly, professional and they went out of their way to assist me with extra room for my wheelchair. Their food was delicious and very fresh, I'd highly recommend this place to anyone, thank you.
A perfect Sunday afternoon - neat whiskey, live jazz and the best roast pork I've ever eaten. I also tried some of the components of my wife's vegan meal. Mind blowing.
Had Sunday roast there a few weeks back, and my Dad has been there each Sunday since! Great food, great atmosphere, great tunes!
NOT YOUR ORDINARY CHICKEN PARMI PLACE!
There are a lot of Pubs in Launceston, but none like the „new“ Royal Oak!
The ambience is warm and welcoming, the front room is perfect for families and friends to have a get together and enjoy the amazing food they‘re being served.
From freshly shucked oyster, to perfectly cooked steak and dishes like pork belly or chicken parmi, you can experience well balanced, thought through dishes and taste the quality of ingredients.obviously this chef knows what he’s doing!
You can expect, what I would call, the best (pub) food in town.so go check it out ;)
What a bonus for Launceston New Chef, fabulous Bistro/pub food, dont normaly go out much, pride myself on being a "foodie, have been to the oak twice during the week and today for the "Sunday Roast" all fabulous, cannot fault food and service with a big plus for the music and ambience
