Tamar Ridge Cellar Door reviews
58Excellent location looking over the river. As a Queenslander, we usually have ice with our wine; however, a winery that doesn't have ice, that's something that can be easier fixed. Not much of a wide selection, however, the cheese platter was good.
Our first wine tasting and we weren't disappointed. All the wines were vegan which was great. The lady who assisted us was super friendly and relaxed. Most importantly the wines tasted great.
Very pretentious, don't go there if you want a casual wine tasting experience, go next door to the distillery.
Great customer service. I had the tasting plate and when I finished the service was amazing I went from buying 2 bottles to 6 bottles
Booked lunch for a large party of adults, to help celebrate the recent engagement of my partner and I. We had travelled from Western Australia, with guests from Melbourne, Singapore and Perth.
We were treated so poorly, it turned what should have been a great day into one of confusion and disappointment.
A combination of the sheer lack of customer service, being spoken to in sarcastic and condescending tones, in addition to passive aggressive ‘pet names’ and comments.on top of being denied to taste wines AT A WINERY was all really unnecessary.
Both my partner and I run our own businesses and were BAFFLED by our experience at Tamar Ridge.
It is actually beyond me and the owners need to be aware of their staff behaviour.
See below.
Ordering is at the bar and we were served by a middle aged woman with short reddish-brown hair. I put in our food order, and said “as for wine, if we could taste some of your Pinots? ” (In order to establish which to buy).
Her response “NO, NO, NO DAAAARLING. ”
That’s it, no reason, no apology, to which I asked in confusion, “Why not? ”
Her explanation, “You booked for food, not a tasting and it’s a busy day. See? It’s just far too busy for a tasting DARLING”
I was genuinely confused, as were my guests with me and I didn’t appreciate the condescending “DARLING” at the end of every sentence.
Mind you, we counted a total of 6 occupied tables of approximately 18 available. No one was waiting behind us to order.
She didn’t offer to explain the difference in the Pinots. I said fine, we will order the Research, to which she replies “Ahh, the light one”
LIKE RIGHT, how would we know it’s light if we aren’t allowed to TASTE it?
I mean we visited a WINERY hoping to taste and buy WINE.
I don’t see how simply pouring a small amount of their Pinot would have taken so much time and effort for her when we had the intention of buying multiple bottles of wine, and ordering food for 8 people?
In fact, right behind us was a menu board offering their tastings?
In addition, after a different staff member kindly moved us to a table with some shade, the same middle-aged employee we ordered from came over and asked “Who was the SOOKY who couldn’t handle the sun? ” sarcastically.
WOW. Great way to make your guests feel uncomfortable for simply asking to not roast in the sun mid-day (which, mind you I’m sure she wouldn’t be able to “handle” herself)
My partner went to order more food, and also asked for more crackers for our cheese board. Apparently that was all very difficult to accomodate also. Crackers, for our remaining cheese, you would think is a simple ask. He expressed that he was more than happy to pay. They eventually worked it out but wow - You would think we were asking for the world.
Honestly SO disappointed and had I have known the experience and treatment we were to receive, I would NOT have brought along international and interstate guests. To be spoken to like this on what is supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life, we were all so genuinely confused and turned off by her attitude. Had there have been an alternate option close by we certainly would have left. I really did have to bite my tongue and not respond in the same condescending tone and language for the benefit of my own guests and no other.
I mean, this was a celebration of my engagement at a winery where we were refused a tasting of their wine and were spoken to rather disgustingly in my opinion. I’d be curious to know if other guests of perhaps lighter skin colour or older in age would be treated differently.
I suggest Tamar Ridge do some serious staff training in customer service and review their protocols. I will certainly not be returning, nor will my guests or any of their family and friends should they ever ask for winery recommendations in the Tamar Valley. What an experience to go home and pass on.
Amazing experience and beautiful wine!
Staff were happy to stay back an extra 30 mins to accomodate for us. Absolute pleasure and the best wine experience we’ve had in Tassie so far
To me, service is just as important to the wine tasting experience as the wine itself. And the sommelier I had was terrific. She didn't rush me, even though I was doing a solo tasting, and provided a 5-star service throughout the entire event. Wish I got her name to do a special mention here.
Pleasant cellar door with decent Pirie and Tamar ridge wines. The Pirie sparkling a are excellent, although you can get them from most bottle shops. Cellar door is pleasant and has great views of the Tamar river
Nice winery for wine tasting. Beautiful location near a lake.
We paid $30 and $20 per head but the staff were keen we left before 5pm and felt quite rushed especially as we had come a long way.
Best is to advice visitors to get in latest 4pm if you want a proper tasting.
Our comparison is however with Josef Cromie wines where the service is next level.
The stars are for the quality of food when we actually got it. We received it after we questioned the food when the first tasting finally arrived. There is good food, good views, comfortable seating area and a ginhouse next door. Not the nicest wine but then I've found out they were bought by brown brothers so it makes sense. Jo chromy planted some of their original champagne grapes so look at his chardonnay or champagne vintage line for quality. Every other winery in the area supports the other wineries in the area except this one.
Linda was a perfect host, friendly, helpful, good old fashioned customer service. Oh, the wines were pretty good as well.
Set in the picturesque Tamar Valley, this winery has beautiful, scenic vistas. We had a wine tasting and platter overlooking the valley. Cannot rave enough about the reserve pinot noir. Yum! 20 minutes from Launceston, this winery is well worth the visit.
Popped in for a tasting today with some friends, and had an awesome experience. We had such a blast that we regretfully didn't even catch the name of the splendid lady who looked after us. As the non-wine drinker of the group, she blew me away with her knowledge and even found me a wine I enjoyed. Happily bought and wish all tasting had someone so perfect for the role!
Lovely to get a window table at short notice. Had the Chacuterie plate and the Cheese plate between too. Really enjoyed a Pinot each, I had the Reserve and Liz had the Estate. Very clean on the palate. Highly recommended.
Beautiful wines with a fantastic service. Really enjoyed our time here.
Be sure to grab a cheese platter
Visited first thing on a Wednesday. Completed a wine tasting and it was lovely. Very knowledgeable and we didn’t feel spoken down to.the cellar door itself is of great quality and the view is spectacular. Will be buying more wine online when I get home. Thanks for the experience
Great wine with different tasting options. A good location too, not too far out of Launceston with great views.
We enjoyed a lovely platter with our wine flights outside while enjoying the great view. The service was fantastic as was the wine.
A great experience. Sampled wine and gin. The staff were lovely but a little tired because they were short staffed but it did not affect their professionalism towards us
Wine tasting along with the cheese tasting is great. Lovely place. History of their beginnings is wonderful.
