Raida St Helens reviews
54Very pleasantly surprised to find such a sophisticated restaurant in St. Helens. Great traditional Japanese dishes which had their own signatures twists from an obviously talented chef. Great service provided by a passionate staff. Once this new restaurant gets in full stride it will be a sure winner for its patrons and the area. Highly recommend.
We were quite disappointed with dinner tonight. There were no oysters, no clams. After we ordered kingfish as a main, the waitress returned and said they have no kingfish. So I ordered a standard sushi platter. It came with two piece of sushi fish, one piece of overcooked beef, the rest is large amount of mushy sushi rice. I have never seen such a sushi platter before.
Nice wine, nice staff, but food is not suitable for Asia taste,we order the udon looks good and but sour soup ,and scallop with salad really fresh
This is a great find in downtown St Helens. Newly opened (as at June 2021), it serves a range of classic Japanese cuisine with a smattering of modern Australian dishes featuring local produce, as rotating specials. They do breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu suited to each. A great wine and beer list plus good service makes this highly recommended.
An unexpected gem in St Helens. Great blend of traditional Japanese and modern flavours with interesting twists.
This is legit one of the best restaurants in Tassi!
Only fresh seafood when available which is great. Japanese touch but a sophisticated local interpretation on it!
Good Tasmanien Whiskey selection, ask for Gordon he will give great recommendations and background -
Good timed!
We were staying across the road and thought we would give this place a go not knowing what to expect. The food was amazing and the service attentive. The combination of Australian contemporary with a Japanese twist hit the spot try the pork special if it’s available
Have to say the service was fabulous but overall very disappointing.
We had 4 entrees, chicken skewers, (fabulous) but needed more than 3 drops of mayonnaise and wasabi, Onigiri, (terrible.) Too much rice and very little filling. Okonomiyaki (Average) Tsukane Tempura
The disappointing thing was that these were share entrees but each only had 3 pieces. When we asked if we could get another piece on each plate as we were a table of 4 we were told we would be charged $5.00 per piece. I am a little puzzled as most tables are for 4 or 2.
Main-2 of our table ordered the the scotch fillet medium rare. One steak was rare and the other was medium. This dish came with coleslaw (delightful) and. No idea why the rice, served no purpose.
Basically it was a piece of steak with coleslaw and rice.
The others had trevally (excellent) served with salad and wasabi mash.
Great idea but wrong combinations. The wasabi mash would have been lovely with the steak.
I think they are onto a good concept but needs work.
Wonderful restaurant in St Helens. Well thought out menu, supporting local produce. The oysters are top shelf and the steak was delicious and absolutely perfect. The service is outstanding.
Found this lovely place on our last morning in St Helens & sad we didn’t find it earlier! Trendy new restaurant with a Japanese inspired breakfast menu (we didn’t get to see the other menus but I’m sure they would be great too). Really friendly service & quality meals using a variety of local Tasmanian produce. Can’t wait to return to Tasmania and visit this place again.
My partner and I had a delicious brekky here this morning, I cannot say enough about the quality food and service with a smile get around this business because we all love to eat nice food and if we locals do not service these places they will not survive reasonably priced and a lovely sunny happy atmosphere and the bestest coffee ️ will be back over and over
Beautiful Japanese Australian fusion restaurant with exceptional service.
On a small quick lap of Tasmania catching up with family and seeking out new places. St Helens was a random pick on the coast.
Raida was the obvious choice for our Saturday night treat. Great well deserved reviews online and the menu had everything we’d expect from a coastal restaurant.
We didn’t book, which we would advise to do so but we were squeezed in by the lovely Host/Manager Margaret (sorry if I remembered that wrong).
Beer selection fantastic, lots of local offerings and something for most palates. The butterfly gin was a show stopper. Wine recommendation was elite! Brim Creek Pinot Noir.delicious if we didn’t have a plan for after a second bottle would have been mandatory.
Food menu had a lot to choose from and a few options were hard to put aside but a compromise was struck on the Sashimi platter for a starter and we had Porterhouse and Roasted Kingfish for mains.
The fusion element really comes across with the mains and generally hits the mark. I’m super keen to see how they evolve and adapt as their emphasis on quality local ingredients is amazing and I’d love to see how this changes with the seasons.
I flew solo on the dessert, I was wiggling with excitement at the Japanese Purin and I was not disappointed.
I cannot reiterate enough how good the service is here, for it to be that good having only been open for 6weeks is incredible.
I’m planning our next trip to Tasmania around revisiting Raida.
I regret not taking photos.
Fantastic food and wonderful service at Raida. The locally sourced food and wine makes it the perfect choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner if you’re anywhere near St Helen’s. I’ll be back for more delicious scallops in sea urchin butter!
10/10 for the vision and enthusiasm this team has, numerous local beers on tap, a fabulous range of whiskeys and wine coupled with the marriage of great food. Encouraging to see local growers strongly supported, fresh produce and flavours a stand out. The RAIDA creators deserve to do well, please continue to support these guys, we will definitely be back, well done.
