Lark Distillery reviews
58My husband and I did a tasting & it was exceptional! Not only is the whiskey outstanding, the service & friendliness of the staff so lovely & add to the experience.
Tried a few whiskys and were great. Staff wonderful if maybe not enough. Lovely atmosphere
Knowledgeable and helpful staff excellent range of whisky (dont be expecting to find any $40 gulping whisky that you'd mix with coke.)
Professional and friendly staff a wonderful relaxed environment.
Oh, and the Whisky.
So. Much. Whisky.
Lovely little whisky cellar door. Even if you are not familiar with whisky, the tasting menu of three different 15ml whiskies starts at a very affordable price. Cosy atmosphere and friendly service.
Had some amazing service from the guy at the cellar door and the Lark whiskies have come a long way from when I first tasted them many years ago.unfortunately can’t justify the high prices for 500ml bottles compared to other scotches or japanese whiskey on the market which are similarly tasty but far less eksy hence 3 stars only.
Great options for a seriously well presented whisky tasting!
We're back, 9 months on: Another very enjoyable tasting experience - highly recommend a visit in your travels!
Helpful staff to taste a variety of Lark Whiskey’s. Enjoyed the tasting pallet and having a go a guessing the different flavours with their tasting guide.
One of the oldest distilleries in TAS, helpful and friend staff taking the effort to explain each individual whisky that we are tasting. Able to go package on the tasting (15ml) or customise to our preferred. Bought a bottle of their Xmas bottle.
We were in Hobart for a day last week, on our way back to the ship we stopped in to the store and tried the whiskey recommended by Adrian (who was excellent, very friendly and patient), he picked a lovely whiskey my husband purchased, I am not a whiskey drinker but I thought it tasted like vanilla and Xmas cake, here’s bob with his little trophy.
It was a great experience. X
As an avid whisky enthusiast, I had to visit the Lark Cellar Door in Hobart. I wasn’t disappointed! The place is beautifully appointed which really sets the tone for a quiet dram or a whisky flight. The staff are great and provide a good background into the origins of their whisky- which is very good stuff. Lark have a huge selection to sample or buy but be prepared to dig deep for one of their bottles. Their juice is on the expensive side for Tassie whisky.
Definately visit Lark Distillery if you're in Hobart. It's a gorgeous experience & a perfect way to warm up on a winters day! A great way to try limited release whisky's too:)
Fantastic experience tasting the Lark range. You can try the large range of Lark and a good way to do this is with one of the flights or make up your own as i did. Be sure to ask about cellar door only releases. I picked up a 1 of 1750 bottles a cellar door only release. Great staff and all know the ways all the Lark whiskeys are made. It has changed from having a full bar and food 4 yrs ago to only being a cellar door for Lark but that suited us. There is another Lark bar 100m away with the Gin range as well. No distillery here on site but it used to be. A must do in the heart of Hobart.
Tried a few different whiskeys
Dark Lark my favourite, subtle flavours.
Next was Glenfaclas.
It's like a punch in the face.
(don't mouth breath whilst drinking it)
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Seems to be a Lark only bar now, previously it was more vibrant with a lot more whiskey choices. Was quite cold (all guests in stayed in jackets). I definitely prefer the old setup, however can’t knock the great service.
Didn’t visit this place but did buy
LARK x Glenfarclas Rare Cask Release at $999 a bottle and when I first read about this rare cask it stated limited to 60 bottle so I jumped at the offer but when I received it the next day I was surprised to see #348 out of 400 odd bottles I then rang lark and inquired to the number I was then told that it was limited to 60 bottles on line you scammers didn’t say that in the first place yes I was deceived by larks wonder how many more where?
Lovely and warm space, just be aware they only offer tastings and a couple bottled drinks now and the tastings are very pricey. Didn’t suit us as we’re on a budget but that’s just something we should’ve been aware of before we entered, so we ended up leaving without trying anything. Staff are lovely and welcoming, and understood that
They get one star for the quality of their whisky and for pretty much kicking off the Tasmanian whisky phenomenon.
Their affiliation with Bruce Mathieson Sr.and allowing Scummo to pretend that he likes whisky for a photo op in exchange for money that the state needs for essentials (I adore whisky, but it's not exactly essential.) means that I will not spending any more money with them.
Beautiful spot - great whisky and great service! The folks behind the bar were knowledgeable, relaxed yet very efficient.
Make sure to try out the cask strength!
Incredibly memorable experience here. The setting is so snug and intimate. The Slainte Liqueur was absolutely beautiful, as was the hospitality. Highly personable and attentive bar staff who know exactly how to make their customers feel welcome. A precious and quintessential Tassie experience indeed! Very impressed.
