Everything about this place was fantastic. The whipped cod roe on bottarga toast and the asparagus, fava bean and lemon butter pasta were outstanding. Lovely staff and a great vibe. Highly recommend.

Came here for the first time and I was completely blown away. Service was excellent but food was one of a kind. So good I came back a few days later.

The lobster pasta is something I often dream about. The white asparagus was one hell of an experience and don’t get me started on the desert looking savoury entree with salmon cream and roes on top of the crunchy bread, yes the Bottarga toast. Excellent portion too, worth every penny.

If you’re in Hobart, you need to stop by here.

The food was delicious, and beautifully presented. Each dish was perfectly cooked with well matched flavours.
The attentive and friendly staff and the cosy atmosphere made for a very enjoyable night at Institut Polaire.
Cocktails were great too!

First time I have put a review forward on a negative. Beautiful food.delicious wine.however the service was lacking.non welcoming.felt like we were intruding.will never return nor recommend. Such a shame when comparing with the website. Find some smiles and a warm welcome please.

Want to know where to dine in Tasmania? Come with me to visit one of Hobart's top restaurants, one of my favourites, @institutpolairetasmania where the beautiful seasonal menu showcases the best local produce and beautiful creative dishes.

Starting with a glass of chenin from Sanskrit wines with some beautiful tassie oysters with yuzu pearls. We then began the seasonal menu, a beautiful bottarga toast on fluffy focaccia and a sea urchin eclair. Then we had super plump Hokkaido scallops on cloudy soft milk buns with caviar and miso butter. A fresh acidic heirloom tomato salad followed by a beautiful spanner crab linguine and a Cape grim beef fillet cooked perfectly. A super smooth palet cleansing sorbet and finally this magical yuzu Meringue tart where the Meringue floated on top of a clear yuzu jelly.

Really a first class experience all the way. Reservations are required. Book in advance and do not miss this restaurant.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! Easily one of the best dinners I had during my trip to Tasmania. The food was delicious and cocktails absolutely yummy (really loved cocktail Aurora and Salty Dog). Nav and Louise were also lovely hosts that evening. A definite must-visit if you're in Hobart!

Great place for a special date night. We enjoyed the tasting menu, a matching wines for one (which we shared) with a cocktail each to start. The food is paired with predominantly domaine simha wines (same owners).

Having live here 8 years, it took a (very favourable) Weekend Australian review to remind me this place existed. We loved each dish. The gin advice was welcome and spot on. As parents of young kids, we don't get out very often so it can't be a dud - this was not a dud!

If you are a big fan of Tasmanian gin, this place is a must. 4 of us came there for the gin tasting, but ended up finishing almost the whole snack menu and many of their cocktails. We went there on Sunday so we had the special pork katsu sandwich as well. It is definitely the best one I have ever had in awhile.

We came back for their seasonal set menu to celebrate our anniversary last month. The food was absolutely beautiful and tasty. That story of local white asparagus they served recently made me feel special to be a tasmanian residence.
The handkerchief mushroom is surely an art, and the eye fillet is the star of the night.
And believe me, you can never go wrong with any of their cocktails. I had the gin bramble and my partner had a manhattan which is always the best one he has around Hobart.

The atmosphere, the service and the food were exceptional.
Institut polaire is a must try in Hobart.

Absolutely rubbish, the portion sizes were way too small and not worth $120 per person. None of the dishes were memorable. The dessert was horrible, the tart was under cooked. I wouldn't give one star.

Staff were soo kind and friendly. Definitely the cherry on top. Unfortunately the food was very underwhelming. The spanner crab, cape grim eye fillet and dessert was delicious. Unfortunately not worth $120 pp very disappointing. Thank you for the service though.

This was nice, but I wouldn't go again.

I was a little surprised that the two entrees were both bread based, and while our waiter was very knowledgeable, we were rushed to finish our drinks. Not metaphorically- we were told "Just so you know, I'll need that carafe in a little bit", so I had to gulp down half a glass of wine to accommodate an apparent lack of serving vessels (? !). It really should've been obvious by the second drink that we were struggling to keep up with the pace that was demanded of us.

On the brighter side, the heirloom tomato with sorbet was to die for, and the peach with mozzarella and rosemary was an inspired and refreshing dish. The dessert was a lemon meringue tart, paired with an overly lemony cocktail, which really felt out of place- all of the other pairings made sense, but it was far too much lemon to finish the meal with, and I spent the drive home feeling as though I'd just sucked on a warhead.

As our meal progressed, different waiters cleared our plates, and replaced cutlery with new cutlery- regardless of the fact that it'd been replaced not five minutes earlier by a different waiter, with a plate being whisked away just before our dessert with an explanation of "Oh, you won't need that". At one point, the wine bottle was also left with us, and then taken away once they realised (not that we had the drinking stamina and speed to take advantage of the unattended and very delicious wine)! Everyone was very friendly and personable, but it was disorganised, and lacked attention to detail- like the rather distracting peeling wall behind us, it detracted from what was otherwise a very pleasurable experience.

Attention to detail! Thank you to Louise and her team for a special night. We had a wine tasting when we arrived, all wines were from their vineyard, Domaine Simha, and Louise talked of the love and passion which is put into their harvest. We were a group of 16 riders on the twowheeltours trip to Hobart and there was plenty of food to fill us up for the next days adventure.

We had a private room which added to the fantastic ambience of the lovely restaurant and I cannot fault their food, service, style and care for what they do 10/10!
