Farm Gate Market reviews
53Support our local farmers and not Woolies or Coles. Veg lasts so much longer and is way better than a supermarket
Lovely little market with excellent quality food. Recommending a stop at the cheese stall and a stop at the fresh bread stall to make your own cheese sandwich on the spot, like we did (smoked mozzarella doesn't need to be toasted and it is sublime when fresh on a fresh bread slice). Loved the cookies as well which get sold out quickly.
Tasmania is home to many wonderful farmers markets. In most towns there are monthly markets full of Tassies best produce. Both Hobart and Launceston host markets - the former the famous Salamanca Markets every Saturday and the Farmers Markets just up the road in Bathurst St in the CBD on Sundays. Not to be outdone. Launceston has its Farmers Markets weekly (Sundays) on Cimitiere St. It's host to the famous George Town seafood vendors but has lots of other fresh food, the now ubiquitous wine, whisky and cider providores, delicious fast food and live music. It's yet another reason to visit this lovely small city only two hours or so from Hobart. And in summer the markets sell wonderful fresh berries and cherries all sorted locally. Enjoy the experience.
Don’t worry, it’s nothing like the Salamanca Markets. Goods are season dependent. Plants. Breads. Veggies. Fruit. Meats. Cheeses. Milk. Alcohol. Spreads. Sauces. Home made and home grown.
If you're a foodie you absolutely need to go to this market. Also the range of fresh food, ie veg and speciality meat is impressive. Eat as much prepared food as possible then take home produce for dinner that night.
Been buying veg from the supermarket recently, but managed to go and get fresh from the market. Nice big Brussel Sprouts and fresh crunchy snow peas. There is a stall that is cash only that is on the Murray Street end. Their cauliflowers were $1 cheaper, but bigger and had a nice fresh colour. Do a lap first before buying and get there early.
Every time we come to Tassie we always visit this market. We are a big fan of trying new things and getting fresh veg so this is the best place to come and get it all! Some fresh bread and doughnut stalls sell out fast so make sure you come early.

Amazing fresh local produce. I wish we'd stayed in a place with a kitchen as I would've bought some much. We stocked up on cheese, diapers, bread & pastries and had the best day in bed picnic.
This market is an *absolute must* for brekkie and fresh produce if you are in Hobart on a Sunday morning. The food is “next level” delicious. Wish I could go back right now! Hi
Almost everything you hope for in a farmers market. Seasonal produce and friendly people, only let down was a seemingly small selection.
Pretty good market. Worth coming. Try the wallaby burrito, it’s really nice. Love the vegetables.
Great fresh produce and lots of little stalls. Loved visiting this market and wish I could come every weekend! Enjoyed having congee for breakfast
Great little Sunday market with heaps of fresh produce and several food stalls like the Wood Fiery Redhead, Indonesian food stalls and other Asian food stalls, including stalls selling hot drinks, organic fruit juices, cider like the Surges Bay Orchard cider organic soy drinks, and lots more. There are also good quality butchers, flower vendors, fresh pastas, sauces, cheeses, etc. There's something for everyone if I may say so. We enjoy coming here. It helped that last Sunday was a lovely sunny day despite the cold weather forecast.
If you are in Hobart, farm gate market is a must visit. Weather it is grocery shopping, getting breakfast, trying homemade or stall made dishes or buying some unique arts & crafts. It is a fav of locals & visitors and for a good reason.
My coffee was decent and so was my breakfast. Will def visit when back in Hobart.
Good market, best to get there earlier. Lots of fresh produce and local Tasmanian products. Good variety of hot food and drinks. Some stalls have card payment but best to bring cash if possible. Farm Market bags available for purchase. No dogs but okay for kids. Prices standard for Hobart
Lots of things to see and buy. Unusual eats and drinks. Most, if not all sellers take card. Usual problem, not a lot of parking - check for meters, as some charge for Sunday morning, others don't. If possible take public transport. The market still operates in the rain.
Small farmers market right in the city with heaps of fresh produce and meat/butcher stands you can buy from. A few food options available. If I lived here I would definitely have bought some produce.
Love these Farmers gatherings and their fresh produce. A tad bit overpriced compared to the big players but on the bright side, you get fresh food and support to farmers. Very friendly crowd and they all accept card payments. The juice stalls were my favourites.
Fantastic food markets with the best grab and go breakfast in Hobart. Such a great market in such a great city. It’s gets better all the time and has really really good meat, vegetables, cheese and bread.
Love it!
Beautiful community market supporting local producers. Meats, cheese, veggies, fruit homemade jams, raw milk, cold pressed juice, famous sourghdough donuts and more. There are also some really delicious food vans and coffee for those needing something to eat and a caffeine fix.
