Zapata's Mexican Restaurant reviews
70The food lacked flavour and was very expensive, especially for the portion size. We had an entree and fajitas for 2 people and left hungry.
I've been here a few times, but after tonight I won't be returning. The male host (perhaps owner?) is rude, in fact I don't think he said a single word to us while taking our order then promptly snatched our menus away from us. Not even a smile. The tomato salsa in our 'combination dips' was definitely off, with the waitress agreeing with us when she returned from checking with the kitchen.
I overheard another female waitress tending to a nearby table and I was shocked with how she was speaking to them.
I'm absolutely kicking myself that I gave these guys another go. There are plenty of other beautiful restaurants in Adelaide.
Average food. Nothing outstanding. Maitre'D was pretty devoid of personality and gave a smug and unhelpful reply when asked his suggestion on a steak we were about to order. No need to go back. There are heaps of better, more cheerful places for us to visit in the same area.
The most delicious Mexican food, everything tasted so fresh and flavourful. Will definitely be coming back!
Seems like a well established family restaurant. Told by the waiter the menu hasn't changed in years. Has all your basic Mexican meals. If you're looking for an easy, no fuss Mexican then this is the place for you. They were very accommodating for our vegan friends who love to eat here.
The staff was very slow, unfriendly and ultimately forgot to put our order in the kitchen (reason why we waited for almost 2h) that our friends with children decided to go home. Next days I even got food poisoning… a nightmare!
I had this restaurants tacos and queso delivered to my home last night. The queso was decent. However the tacos were so bland and horrible. Mexican food is delicious because it’s simple and made from fresh ingredients. These guys charge a lot and give you frozen or refrigerated ingredients. If you want Mexican go get cheap takeout and it will be better than this.
So it was one of our favourite place for Mexican food. But today, the food was not upto the mark. It was not as expected. We waited for 1 hour for nachos and tostadas and got cold food with no taste at all. The quality was not as expected at all.
Real bad experience and waste of money. I am not going there again
Very disappointing. Meals were very average. I visited few Maxican restaurants but that one is on the end of my list.
Well, THAT was disappointing.
Having eaten at Zapata's easily over a dozen times over the years, I was hesitant to revisit this well-established eatery after our last, poor experience from 2-3 years ago. But, since we were staying just across the street, why not? Man, was that a mistake.
Wet tacos that fell apart upon picking-up. Enchiladas that were clearly microwaved and not 'grande' as described. Prefabbed chips for the prefabbed salsas. And worse yet, warm beer! I would've given them 2-stars for their service, but we had to ask fo water 3x (!) and it finally arrived with our second (warm) beers.
Don't bother Adelaide. There are better options out there.
Been here a few times when come to Adelaide, always a good experience.
Highly recommended
Fun place with down to earth staff. Not trendy and a bit dated but nice fresh food. Recommend.
It's not bad, it's not great. The food is quite tasty, the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere and general vibe is quite warm and cozy. The low rating is just due to the really slow dining experience.
Sadly we didn’t have the best experience here, the food wasn’t anything to write home about and was pretty expensive for what it was. I had beef tacos and my partner had “enchiladas grande” which weren’t very big and wasn’t any better than we could have made at home with a packet mix from the supermarket. With drinks it cost $100 for the 2 of us and 1 kids meal. Honestly wish we’d just got Zambreros…
Got Uber Eats delivery. Very expensive. Poor meal presentation. Very small portions. Nachos had soggy Corn Chips all stuck together. Meal was luke warm after only a 12 minute transit.
Good great. The problem is the staff - two of the staff are wearing ridiculous fabric masks - the idiocy of it is that if they knew anything about microns then they would know they would do nothing. Personally I don't want to want to go out for dinner and be served by fools in masks - they do nothing except make the wearer look a virtue signally wet and upset patrons having to look at them. Get rid of the masks - or the staff, but it's not acceptable.
First time there tonight for my birthday and highly recommended. Can not wait to go back again. The staff were extremely friendly especially our lovely waitress.
My favourite Mexican restaurant in Adelaide, the servings are always generous and very tasty. They do excellent nachos and the full serve with the lot can feed two people easily. The staff are friendly and service is fast. Their Mexican soft drinks are also a treat.
This place is beautiful, wholesome and lovely to dine at. There was a small issue with one of meals and the staff were so good to jump on it and resolve the problem. Our waitress who is studying politics was so funny and pretty. She entertained us the whole night through. Thank you for the food, the drinks and great service. 100% recommend.
Always delicious. My 2nd time here. Went for the chimichanga and jalapeno cheese bites. The staff are so friendly and happy to serve you. Will be back
