The Manor Estate reviews
73Fantastic Manor, great food, wine and entertainment. Such a fun afternoon. Thanks Peter and John?
The ambiance on arrival was immersive, the vaulted ceilings in our room gave me a feeling of ultimate luxury, looking in the Chester sofa and four poster bed invited me to continue to step back in time. It was set up with relaxing music and fireplace, was calling out to be lit, completing the romantic vibe.
We attended the Secret Garden Wine Tasting … do not bother wasting your time!
The grounds/ gardens had not been tended to, the peacocks are locked in a cage too small for those birds.
Prior to our arrival Peter advised us that today’s bookings would be pared back due to lack of bookings, and this included no live band but as compensation we would get a bottle of wine - we were okay with that! So we Drive the 1hr towards McLaren Vale. The winery is not in McLaren Vale it’s in Kangarilla.
Walking up the driveway there was rubbish, broken items in piles that had not been disposed of.
When we arrived Peter then told us that there would be no food either, but we could purchase off his very overpriced menu (plate of chips $19). The seating area was generally dirty with overgrown weeds surrounding the area. There were only 3 couples when we attended and you literally sit there waiting for a sip of wine. We stayed less than an hour and then went in search of a real winery in McLaren Vale.
Do not waste your time or money here!
Nice location- that is it!
You wait half hour to get a small drop of wine
Then wait another half hour for next drop
Very little food also
They just want you to buy their food - which is so expensive!
Spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Manor Estate wines, ambience, scenery and hosts provided an experience that has led to an appreciation of the range of wines available here, Sparkling Rose was my favourite, followed by the Chardonnay
Secret Wine Garden, don't waste your time here. Terrible organisation if you could even class it as organized. People standing in a line for 50 minutes to be signed in and don't expect a drink or any food until 2: 30 for a event starting at 1pm. Even the chairs and tables are not set up prior, bringing out old dusty chairs.really! The staff did a great job considering the number of BOOKINGS, it isn't like the management didn't know the numbers prior. Almost bait advertising to get you there and then charge $19 for a bowl of chips as the only food provided in the package is hardly worth mentioning, if you are lucky enough to see any of it. Plenty of better, professionally run wineries around
Booked all the rooms on my wedding night 5 years ago and thought it was good back the but recently stayed again and was surprised to see that there was more being done o the property.
The new cellar door feels more like a secret wine bar and made our stay more romantic.
Cheers Peter the new area was amazing
Do not bother! We had booked for the Australia day weekend, arrived on Sunday and paid an additional fee to check in "early" at 2pm, we arrived closer to 4pm, even then they were clearly not expecting us at all, Peter is extraordinarily disorganised. With no apology for not being ready for us to check-in on a 42 degree day, we were left sitting in the garden, needing to chase him down multiple times to ask when we could go to our room, which we got into at 445. The room was hot and stuffy, no fan, no adequate air-conditioner, (a small portable unit, is all the room had), the bathroom was dirty and there was hair (very strange) in the mini fridge! The complimentary wine was also nowhere to be seen and when we asked the question, Peter had no idea that this was what the website offered. Please save your money, go anywhere else but here.
I can't praise Peter and Manor Estate highly enough! We stayed in the Retreat Chalet, a luxurious unit beautifully decorated with a huge 2 person spa with candles in the large bathroom. Waiting for us on arrival was a bottle of bubbly on ice along with chocolates and strawberries. Our host Peter showed us through the retreat providing us with all the information we'd need, including telling us about the endangered bandicoots that we were likely to see! We had such a romantic evening sipping bubbly in the spa, even deciding to get dinner delivered rather than leaving our luxurious accommodation. A breakfast hamper was waiting for us in the morning. We can't wait to come back and look forward to staying in the Grand Fireplace room with an open fire in Winter, although we'll definitely stay in the retreat again. Thank you Peter for a truly wonderful experience at the Manor Estate!
Beautiful place and great wine! Thank you to Peter and John for your hospitality and special thanks to John for allowing me to sing a few tunes with him!
We had a secret garden voucher. What a rip off. "Rolling horsd'oeuvres and canapes" consisted of 1 tiny spring roll. 1 stick with 2 cherry tomatoes and a baby boccincini and one stick with a small piece of cheese, a slice of salami and a stuffed olive. People were told that they could buy extra food. At $19 for a bowl of chips we chose not to!
The afternoon started at 1pm and we had our first tasting wasn't available till 2.15. There were over 80 guess and one person going from Table to table offering one tasting at a time.
We left hungry, and totally unimpressed by the way some other guests were treated by the winemaker. Most of the wines were brownish, far too sweet and on the edge of going off. We won't be back.
We stayed in the Balcony Spa Suite. Our arrival was not as we expected. We certainly weren’t given the VIP treatment as indicated on website. Had to wait outside before we checked in as we arrived 5 minutes early. There was no complimentary wine on arrival, no open fire, and it was cold the days we were there. We had a large bathroom, but no toiletries were provided, not even a guest soap to wash our hands. (Our stay was during the COVID pandemic, so had to fill out a health form, so would have expected at least a soap in the basin). There is no shower screen around the shower, so everything gets wet when you use it. On our second day, we came back after being out for the day and again the front door was locked. It took 10 minutes before we could get someone’s attention and to get in. On a positive note, the room was lovely with plenty of room and a comfy bed. The spa bath also large.
I held my 30th birthday celebrations at Manor Estate and it was a delight for all my guests!
The grounds are well maintained and beautifully kept. Peter was happy to help throughout the whole process from start to finish. His staff on the day of the event were excellent and nothing was too much trouble.
If you're looking for a beautiful location for your next event that has accommodation on site, then visit Manor Estate!
Loved the secret wine garden Sunday session. The only negative was the slow service on the food coming out. Great wine.
The wine was lovely, but it was very unorganised and the food was non existent. In the 2 hours we were there we received one tiny dish for 3 people. We were told a new dish would be brought out every 20-30 minutes yet this never occurred. Quite disappointed.
Attended the Secret Wine Garden just glorious.wine excellent food excellent beautiful surrounds clearly very popular. We really enjoyed the concept of taking the afternoon off and chilling in the garden with access to wine n food all afternoon serenaded by great acoustic music and the benefit of mealy bites to enjoy throughout the afternoon.we will be back!
Awesome service and facility greeted our group with great service and fine rooms and a noticed attention to detail. Their tours and shuttle service, the acoustic afternoon was so convenient no need to leave it all happens around you. Great place to stay.
Recently booked the Manor Estate was an enjoyable stay and activity in the McLaren Vale wine area. Excellent service and accommodation! We really enjoyed our day out on their wine tours and excellent wine tastings!
