The Colonist reviews
73This became our local during our recent visit to Norwood. Happy hour was great and love the diversity of the staff; nice to see after traveling across SA. Looks like this is a local for people in the neighborhood so good people watching.
Booked the Christmas event. The food was a set menu and bookings were made at a known time and still was very very slow. Had to chase people to get drinks at what was supposed to be table service. The floor staff there were trying their best.
The food was delicious and so nice to see some unique menu items, the dining room was quirky and the staff were all very friendly. Will be back again.
I have loved the Colonist for years however the past few months have had disappointing experiences. Booked over the phone the day before for breakfast in January only to show up to a closed pub & told they no longer do breakfast.
Was excited to go back today for brunch but really disappointed again. We were one of the first tables to order but waited 30 minutes for a cup of tea and 50 minutes for food. The only reason given was there was only 1 chef on which we were only told after I followed up after 40 minutes. The food was good in the end but $18 for 2 pancakes is ridiculous.
Staff are still wonderful, food was rubbish, we were regulars before, new owners, new chef, atmosphere isn't as good
Waited 50 mins for food and waitress came out with the completely wrong dish, we told her what we had ordered and she replies saying they don’t have that on the menu.a steak sandwich is on the brunch menu - we ordered and paid for it? Other customers then preceded to get served the steak sandwich before we got ours. Also currently waiting an hour for a juice. What’s changed? Change it back. Old colonist was every staff member seemed to have no clue what to do. They need more training, which isn’t their fault.
I absolutely love this place! Food magnificent, staff fabulous, atmosphere brilliant! I have dined here on each of my last 3 trips to Adelaide and have had a consistently great time.thank you to all at the Colonist!
Good place to drink and eat. However, the food prices are very expensive. There are car parks but they're limited. Side street car parks are timed.
What a great little pub. Such a nicely decorated interior and great atmosphere!
Prices are a little bit on the pricier side but food quality is really great and the customer service is very good too.
Highly recommend
Quality has declined. Prices have increased.
My partner and I used to enjoy their seafood linguini, but they've increased prices to $36 for a single plate of pasta, ($12 for two slices of garlic bread), and substituded the king prawns and crab for chicken - yes, chicken. Have you ever heard of chicken in a seafood pasta dish? Me either. The previous version of this dish was full of flavour and quality ingredients, but this one was bland. This was once my favourite dish. We won't be returning anytime soon.
Has been our go to place for the prawn and sand crab linguine when visiting Adelaide from Qld. Unfortunately they have changed the menu. The seafood linguine I would not rate and the lamb pie for $32 you would be better off going to a bakery and having a gourmet one for $7. Disappointing, over priced and won't be returning.
Brilliant service (Millie), staff authentic and personable, atmosphere fantastic and not pretentious. Food and drinks great.
Great spot for a pint or 11 and a feed and one of the last pubs on the parade with any soul or character.
We ordered the steak and the chicken burger which were both amazing! Steak was cooked to perfection and the chicken burger was very tasty! Would recommend this venue to anyone in Adelaide. Fast service, very friendly staff and overall an amazing night. Cheers Colonist, will see you again soon.
Fantastic pub with an awesome vibe and even better bar staff! See Samantha to brighten your day!
We hosted my father’s wake at The Colonist last year, as it was a sentimental spot for us, and I couldn’t recommend them enough! All the staff were so helpful, kind and professional, and the it was such a lovely way to commemorate and celebrate. Thanks so much for hosting us! Oh and your weekend breakfast is fantastic ️ Keep up the good work!
Lovely meal, great service, friendly, lovely, efficient young male Bar attendant, waiter.will be going back.
Playing some pokies to relax.
The staff on duty says im
Smashing on the buttons.
(She was polite and professional)
Her idea of smashing the buttons is if she can hear it, then it's smashing the buttons.
My palm was on the machine and it was my finger doing all the moving.
(BTW I'm 2 m from the counter.)
They should get that fixed if the button if it's making too much smashing sounds!?
No complaints on service very professional.
But if you going to make patrons unwelcomed over fingers smashing button get it bloody fixed!
Not going back
Went for lunch great service staff were efficient service was fast and food was great. Highly recommend. Will be back next time I'm in the area.
Gorgeous heritage building, mixture of original and renovated facade, cute interior. Lovely dining area and great atmosphere for drinks with friends.
