Taverna Greek Psistaria reviews
59My cousin highly recommended the taverna.last weekend, we had a family lunch.we started with dips and dolmathe's & shared a few main meals which were very filling and plenty left over to take home. I look forward to dining there again.
I was surprised at how friendly the staff was and how generous the portions were. I had Lamb shoulder and Aggeli and it was delicious. In particular, the lamb shoulder is highly recommended. There is enough food for two people and it is really soft and delicious.
Lamb was a slow cooked succulent delight! Melt in the mouth masterpiece. Will definitely be back asap! ️️️️️
You order online get there and prices are dearer then u order there hand cut potatoes and u get frozen chips out of a packet
They stung us with the bottled water trick when we asked for regular water.
But other than that the food was really tasty and lots of it
A great Greek restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is nice, and the dining environment is also good.
Best tasting, quality authentic Greek food I've found in Adelaide as of yet. Service was amazing and staff went as far as bring out desert on my birthday, with a candle - to sing happy birthday. Would highly recommend, went above my expectations given its location.
We were a party of 9 at Greek Taverna. Every entree, main and dessert was delicious, well presented and very generous in size. Although it was a very busy night the staff were attentive and prompt with requests for drinks etc.
Friendly good service. Good range of food. I would recommend the goat with it's delicious sauce. Reasonable price.
First time i went here, 5 out of 5. Second time was 4, now its 2. What a shame, it was my greek go-to. No retsina, staple white wine wherever you go in greece. No octopus. Mixed seafood had a piece of metal steelo in it, i didnt complain because typically they think that the customer planted it for a free meal, i was too hungry to deal with that stuff. Seafood was average, nothing special, couldve gotten the same dish anywhere. My friends souvlaki was also average. Unfortunately the highlight was the gin & tonic, they use an awesome gin.
The Extremely Good and the Quite Annoying.
There were five of us for a Sunday lunch and I was pretty excited to eat here as I had passed it many times and the food smells were always amazing.
Let me get the irritating out of the way up front.
I had brought a bottle of fine wine to share with my friends because, quite frankly, very few Adelaide restaurants other than the high end ones carry an extensive wine list of carefully aged wines.
This restaurant is no exception with the usual brief list of young red wine, much too young for drinking in my opinion.
Nonetheless when I enquired about my BYO bottle and the associated corkage I was informed abruptly that BYO was not allowed in their restaurant. This was a first for me, I’ve never been refused before and I’m always relatively happy to accept the corkage hit. Now the SA Liquor Licensing Act does have provision for the licensee to refuse BYO without any listed reasons for doing so, so this restaurant is well within their legal rights to start off my lunch time by annoying the customers and getting them offside. Wouldn’t have thought that was a smart business practice though as it usually results in customers going home writing reviews like this one!
So I was forced to settle for a glass of ordinary, young, overpriced red wine not of my choosing. Did I mention overpriced? When will restaurants understand that they are there to prepare delicious food and not to be wine stores? $15 for a small pour which is normally $11-12 in other restaurants? That’s just plain price gouging.
So after that the food would need to be good.
Fortunately it was.
We ordered the Lamb Shoulder, Mixed Souvlaki, Whitebait and Aggeli (mixed seafood) and a Santorini Salad. The serves were massive and certainly plenty for the most hungry of lunch eaters.
In addition everyone was impressed with the quality of their meals.
The lamb shoulder was moist, well cooked with balanced flavours. And the potatoes were great and the pita bread the best I’ve tasted!
No room for desserts, but we ordered Greek Coffees and a long black because I’m always unexcited by Greek Coffee.
Everybody was unimpressed with the Greek Coffee, the long black also nothing special.
How do I rate the overall experience?
If you’re not the sort who does BYO, and don’t mind average, overpriced wine, the meals are excellent and good value and I would heartily recommend this place.
But for me the flat refusal of BYO with no reasons means I will not. There are lots of other Greek restaurants and other restaurants in Adelaide and as a paying customer I expect my happiness to be put ahead of their profits.
Walked in without a booking before a performance at the Entertainment Centre. Food and service was quick. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food tasted great and we will definately be back.
Great food and friendly staff. Complimentary loukoumades were a lovely surprise. Keep up the good work!
We have enjoyed this restaurant numerous occasions in the past 5 years so the six of us thought we would celebrate here last Saturday. I don't know whether we picked a bad night or the service has slipped but we were so disappointed with this restaurant that we will never return nor recommend it.
We ordered seafood and meat dishes with potatoes. The dishes came with fries. When we asked why we didn't get potatoes, the staff member said they ran out. We should have been told. I could've gone to the pub next door for chips! The salad was terrible, full of oil. The lamb three of us ate had so much fat that we barely ate it and felt nauseous after. Plus, five of us got their meal and the sixth had to wait 20 minutes. This happened twice when the 6th dessert was also 20 minutes late (and the Manager plonked the cheesecake on the tabled in annoyance). One of us ordered ice cream and were served a tablespoon of ice-cream. Barely enough for a 2 year old!
We complained about the quality of food and slow service numerous times during the night. In fairness the waiter did give us a main meal and a dessert for free. Too little too late! We all would have been happy to pay for quality food and good service
Overall a very disappointing night from a well established and pricey Greek restaurant
Ok now I know my Greek food restaurants and these guys have nailed all aspects of a restaurant:
Quality Ambience
Quality Food
Great Cocktails
Amazing Wine Selection
Liquid Gold Coffee
Next level customer service
Tremendous Live band on most weekends
Value for Money
Authentic Greek Breakfast
Kudos to the team at Taverna, please open a restaurant in the East as there is nothing!
Why wait folks:)
Great food and service. Best Greek we've had. A little loud and busy for us, but can't blame them for that, clearly a popular place.
Great food and huge serves. It pained me that I was unable to finish the lamb shoulder. The wine selection was a decent size and great quality. I'd like to see some better beer but you can't have everything.
The service was efficient and friendly. Great recommendations for both food and wine.
We live nearby and will be back regularly. Cheers!
I have been here more than 3/4 times now and I live down south. Whenever I think of a restaurant where I think of food excellence, and a level of service I never think twice
This in undoubtedly the best food in Adelaide. Not once. Every single time. The owner shows warmth and a love for his eatablishment.
You simply must try.
Amazing food. Big serves could easily share a main between two.
Friendly staff.
Good variety of food
Went with a large family group. Service was great. Favourite dishes were the pita and dips, fried squid and fried whitebait. Unfortunately they don't accept Maxxia food and entertainment cards.
Went to their new location on Port Rd. Great service and good atmosphere. Fried whitebait was massive serving size but it was a bit too fishy for my liking. Lamb shoulder was tender and delicious. Chicken souvlaki and stuffed meat pattie was alright. Garlic sauce was delicious. However, all the meats were served at lukewarm temperature. Chips were good.
Massive serving size. Busy restaurant and so waited 40mins for food to arrive. Accepts maxxia card.
