Sidewood Estate

This is our 3rd Christmas Family lunch at Sidewood, and as with previous visits, did not disappoint. Great food (and plenty of it), great service and wonderful kid friendly atmosphere. WAYNE looked after us this year and was flawless in his service, friendliness and professionalism. I look forward to bringing the extended family back next Christmas!

Family booked here over Christmas. Beautiful setting but we were very disappointed with the food. Starters were good (lobster brioche and oysters, pretty hard to stuff up). I had the duck for main which was overcooked and chewy. Dish was missing the lotus chips and looking back at the menu I'm sure it was missing the vinaigrette which it needed as it was topped with the largest handful of herbs. I love herbs but had no balance whatever. Parents had the fish which came with raw, uneatable broccoli. Apple and rocket salad was good. We didn't bother with dessert. I would have told staff about it if they asked. One main was forgotten about which was rectified with some focaccia bread.
Hope this was just a staffing issue as I read contradicting reviews.

My husband and I had the 5 Course Chefs selection and thoroughly enjoyed it. Delicious food and wine and the service was wonderful.

Excellent vibe and thoughtful service. Plates weren’t cleared until everyone had finished.

We had an absolutely terrible experience at Sidewood Restaurant in Handof. The pizzas were incredibly oversalted, making them practically inedible. To add insult to injury, my party and I were seated outside in the rain, with water dripping onto our tables. The service was a complete disaster as well – our main course was brought out before our drinks and appetizers, leaving us bewildered and hungry. This was by far one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had, and I would strongly advise against wasting your time and money at this establishment.

We had a fabulous lunch at Sidewood. The food was sensational and the service was absolutely lovely. Great wine too, and we did a tasting afterwards. Friendly, knowledgeable and informed. Thanks very much!

My Dad and I booked in for the Sabrage Masterclass and had the most wonderful experience with Jordan as our host. His knowledge, passion and kindness was strengths so rarely found in customer service/hospitality nowadays. Jordan is an asset to the Sidewood team and a pleasure to interact with.

Fabulous experience. When we arrived there was an issue with our booking (a larger than booked group had come in I think so not the staffs fault) and they had to move our table from the veranda as booked, to inside. Inside was incredibly noisy and busy so we did not want to sit in that space. The staff member was fantastic and worked really hard to find an alternative for us we were happy with. We ended up sitting outside which was a lovely space and had some delicious pizzas. The place was packed and booked out, but the staff member from earlier still made an effort to come outside, check on us and ask if we needed blankets as it was chilly. Food was great but the service was fantastic. It was extremely busy but all staff were smiling, attentive and very helpful. We will definitely be back.

Food was really bad. Ordered fish which had an after taste & considering it’s the only thing I could eat on the plate 1/10. Never felt like i wasted my money before, the chef on 23/4/23 lunch time

My partner and I booked in for the sabarage experience - and it didn't disappoint! For $40 each we recieved a full bottle of sparkling wine (of our choice), a flight of 4 wines to taste and we got to learn how to pop a bottle using a sword! It was great fun, and we were looked after after extremely well by our host Lavinia. Following our visit to the cellar door we moved to the resturant to finish our wine and had a great time sitting in the sun, playing some lawn games and treating ourselves to some lunch. All extremely well priced for the luxury you recieve. They also have a special area outside their resturant for 18+ only.

Great place for kids due to the outside facilities, which kept our friends toddler entertained. 10/10 food, I got the lamb shoulder and the others got the ribs which tasted amazing. Great place for a sunny day and good wine and cocktails. Service was 8/10 for a busy place.

Always a classy location; but the crowds did, understandably, take it's toll on the service a bit. Wayne was great but it was a definate step back when he was on break (how dare he!) We did find the hanger steak a bit tougher than expected but still tasty. Note the online booking system has a special request section however I don't think this is read or considered. The booking was for my dad's 80th and I had a request which never occured or was addressed. Not a huge big deal for us but if you have dietary requirements or something make sure you verbally tell them rather than just putting it in the booking.

Had a lovely experience at Sidewood on New Years with a group of friends. The food was excellent - so quick and variety was amazing. To top it off we had the exceptional service from the one of staff members Wayne. He made the experience absolutely wonderful - had a lovely personality, was extremely passionate and was just a fantastic guy who made us feel very looked after. We loved that they also offer bocce and bowls for you to play while you’re there. Would highly recommend for those visiting SA or anyone looking for an awesome winery with lots to offer.

Returned for another exceptional experience. Asian beef ribs were outstandingly tantalising.
Service and drink selections topped off a great evening.

What a treat our tasting was today at Sidewood Estate.

Serena was a knowledgable and welcoming host who made our tasting experience interesting and enjoyable. She helped us to create a personalised tasting list and explained the characteristics of each of the wines selected. We particularly enjoyed the Fumè Blanc and Pinot Blanc, which are quite different varietals to anything we'd tasted before. Sidewood offers a tasting and colouring for kids also, which would be great for families.

I thoughly reccomend a visit if you're in or around Handorf.

Excellent spot with a restaurant and a more casual area outside to dine too. The winery has tastings and has some nice white wines. We dined at the more casual part of the winery, the ciders were very good but the pizza was a little average for $27. On the plus side they do have a little area set up with bocce and a mini lawn bowls. Plenty of parking too.

Great restaurant with efficient and friendly staff. The food is excellent and the steak sublime.
