La Madeleine reviews
65Make the journey to the eastern end of the Parade and you wont be disappointed with lovely baguettes, criossants, and danish. Coffee was amazing and some of the best decaf we have ever had. Nice friendly service too and nice outside sitting area too. Recommend
I had heard good reviews before attending this place but I'm afraid my experience there was not that of a good one.
Today I had gone here along with some of my classmates before seeing a show in the Odeon. Upon arrival we had received no notice and had startled the lady who saw us after 5 minutes of sitting down and discussing school related matters. She proceeded to then show us where the menus were and proceeded with her job. Nothing seemed too out of the ordinary at this point.
I had decided to order nothing personally but my friend had decided to share an omelette alongside myself and another classmate. She had ordered the cheese omelette costing $15. We had to wait almost 15 minutes for it to arrive and upon each of us having a singular bite we knew multiple things were wrong as we almost instantly felt ill upon tasting it.
We believed they had put in the wrong cheese, being blue cheese. The omelette also was very runny and visibly under cooked. Thinking this could be an easy matter to resolve.
I had taken the dish up to the ordering counter and had expressed our problems we had noticed with the dish. She seemed to be empathetic enough but wouldn't try to listen to what I had to say and attempted to place words into my mouth. She had then walked away telling one of the chefs to cook the omelette a bit more. Upon her coming back I finally had also got to say that the wrong cheese had been placed in as we wanted just cheese and not blue cheese.
She had then contested this and then my other classmates had also contested to the fact we ordered cheese. This shouldn't have even been a difficult thing to communicate. When expressing the fact we'd like the omelette to be made with not blue cheese she then begun to act antagonistically towards myself and my classmates and saying she doesn't believe she placed in our order incorrectly. She then proceeds to say she'll talk to her boss and ask about this situation. She comes back a minute later refusing to give a refund, a newly made omelette similar to what we had ordered, or our originally failed dish we had ordered.
After expressing our concerns of the fact we had all simultaneously communicated the fact we wanted a cheese omelette. Without any communication or precedence she walks away presumably into the kitchen and then comes back minutes later saying she'll replace the dish at no additional cost. About 5 minutes later we receive the dish and myself and one of my other classmates hesitate in eating the dish and so only one of us had eaten most of the omelette.
Later in the day, myself and one of my other classmates who had eaten that same omelette have become very ill from food poisoning.
Being served under cooked food that in-turn gives us food poisoning and then given a hard time over a mistake they made has put myself and my classmates off from returning there again in the future.
One of my favourite spots to have coffee over the weekend. Staff is fantastic and coffee is amazing.
We had a delicious light mousse cake for my daughters birthday, and I recently had their quiche which was great as well.
Very nice little Cafe up the not so busy end of The Parade, Norwood. Have visited here numerous times and the coffee rarely disappoints - it is quite smooth and flavoursome, with a slight bitterness. The raspberry and pistachio croissants are the perfect accompaniment (if they haven't run out). Otherwise, the french custard tarts (flan parisien) are a great option. Plenty of seating both inside and out with quite a relaxed atmosphere.
Lovely staff, we had the big breakfast and a croissant, absolutely amazing food! They had lactose free milk too!
I’ve only ever been there twice as the barrister was EXTREMELY rude. Thought she could’ve been having a bad day but the second time I gave it another go she still was giving me attitude along with other customers waiting. Not too sure if she should be working there if this is a ongoing problem.
Best place in Adelaide for fresh and tons of varieties of croissants. Good coffee and quick service.
Went for coffee with my sister in law. The waitress was so impatient and unwelcoming (she had her arms crossed over her chest as we were ordering like it was an inconvenience to her to serve us). Coffee was bitter and cold. I don't know if she is the owners wife but they obviously have no concept of customer service.do not recommend
We had a celebration at La Madeleine and we couldn’t have chosen a better venue!
The staff welcomed us and were very helpful in preparing for our event.
La Madeleine provided a BBQ, as one of their event options allowed us bring our own food to cook on the night.
We setup in the beer garden at the back of the venue, and our guests were able to relax outside to enjoy their meals.
Their selection of French wines and beers were an excellent choice with our meals and our guests appreciated their cocktails too!
The bar attached to the cafe was a warm welcoming surprise as the staff prepared a beautiful fire place that we could enjoy inside when it started to cool down outside.
A perfect place to have your next event and also a great place to have a beautiful glass of vin rouge in front of the fire and relax with friends or family!
Coffee is just standard, but the highlight of this place is their nicest croissant in Adelaide. They sell the buttery croissants, almond croissants and the best pistachio & raspberry croissants. Please do go early & get the freshly baked flaky croissant.
Definitely has reduced in quality in the last year or so. The breakfasts are still nice and the pastries fresh but the staff attitudes are terrible! Not helpful at all and seem to be irritated and in a rush.
Awful food overall, with the exception of the plain croissant when they feel like having them. Almond croissants are just plain frozen old croissant that they dip in syrup and toss 2 almonds on it, quiches are microwaved, crêpes are overpriced and microwaved, the bread is obviously not homemade but most likely ordered frozen ready to bake.
We had a pear tart that tasted alright, but the tartshells aren't homemade either and taste like old butter. Don't get me wrong, the huge majority of tarts sold in Adelaide are made from tartshell made in China or Singapore so there is that. I wouldn't try any other cake as I can see nobody's got love nor talent in that kitchen.
I used to go there for lunch a year ago and it was nice quality food but now it is just another café trying to make cash over the French food reputation.
Had planned on a coffee and cake with a friend. Arrived at 2.15pm only to be told they closed at 2pm. Their website says 4pm. This was on a Wednesday afternoon during school holidays. While waiting for the friend, 6 other people were turned away. Makes no sense.
Lovely place for a Sunday brunch sitting outside watching the Parade traffic. Had a craving for quiche and there’s was good, even if it did have a kind of microwaved texture to the crust. Can imagine their take home full size would toast up perfectly in an oven. The coffee was nice. We ended up trying a pear tart to finish things off. Now that was stunning.
It's a cute little cafe with fantastic pastries and coffee. I have been there a number of times and the only reason you don't get 5 stars is the staff- what is the deal? Staff change frequently and are not usually friendly and seem too busy to help out. I cannot identify the owner or anyone in charge, which leaves a bit of a feeling of no one really caring about the service. Also, please get some better teas.
Nice ice cream, but very slow and disorganised. StLouis just down the street will get me next time.
Disappointing lunch - Toulouse sausage and cassoulet was very unappetizing, presentation too was very poor!:/ won't recommend those 2 dishes. They didn't serve the salad and croutons that was suppose to come with it either. When we asked the waitress, she said it doesnt come with it, we had to show it to her on the menu. Both our dishes were suppose to have those sides, but they only served us 1 small plate of the salad and told us to share it.
Ordered the omelette, which was tasty but looked like scrambled eggs. Longish wait at table for meal after ordering. Coffee good and strong. Lovely setting. Would like to try wine night.
The croissants are so good! I usually stop by here on my way to work even though it's out of the way, and get my croissant (or 2) and coffee.
