The walk across the causeway was a bit windy, but once on the island it was calm. We headed anti clockwise and enjoyed the beautiful views back to the shore, and the lovely island scrub and gentle climb. Great views of the bluff and beautiful rock formations on the eastern side. And loved the ocean waves swirling and crashing on the southern side before climbing down the steps. Overall we just really enjoyed the experience and so glad we made the effort.
One of the beautiful places strongly recommend for weekend visiting. One of the last horse running tram still operating. Amazing views, clear sky and fresh air, a lot of attraction for kids and families. Sandy beaches. Fish and chips, ice-cream, coffee, public toilets, amusements everything is available over there.
Quails are just the day-dressed equivalent to the evening dress penguins.
Both live on this island, yet I've never seen both at once.
Coincidence?
Probably.
Poor old granite Island is falling apart thanks to our government and local council. The Causeway is calling apart. The jetty where the boats tie up has one landing half gone literally broken off. Sign there for past three years saying temporary closed. The restaurant and kiosk slso closed for many years now. Was the nicest place to sit with coffee and look out at the jetty and screwpile but alas all fenced off for at least five years now. Very poor effort indead.
We love to walk the jetty or rise the tram and wander the island.
Sadly not much shelter so really have to rely on perfect weather which isn't easy in VH!
Also I know they have a bit of a monopoly, but the cafe isn't well kept and is very expensive.
A great island to walk around with fantastic views at every corner. See all types of birds, including cormorants and penguins. We saw a seal in the sea playing and splashing around. You can take the horse-drawn carriage across the bridge for the full experience. The cafe has a very limited selection of food and drink however.
It's good.
Granite island is a good spot for tourists as there are a lot of cool animals living in the rocks.
Bring your family along and see if your children can find a penguin.
Or go explore granite island yourself and take in the scenery.
Wonderful views - the ocean comes crashing directly against the north-eastern side of the island, with amazing force. Enjoyable walk across from Victor Harbour, or you can enjoy the Horse Tram ride. We saw pied cormorants drying their wings on the sunny rocks.
A good walk on a Sunday afternoon with cool breeze coming towards you from the ocean. Pick up some hot doughnuts from the park and start walking frm the bridge towards the islany. It is good walk around the small island with the water front around you
Great place for an easy walk (bit steep/rocky in areas so need to be moderately fit). Beautiful views.
Good walks and scenery, can walk across jetty ot take the horse drawn tram which is $10.00 return adult or 7 bucks one way.
Sculptures have been added along main tracks which add interest even though not everyones cup of tea, 'fur ball'was favourite.fishing of jetty on island
Wow it a beautiful place specialy when the sun goes down for the day and the art sculpture was gorgeous
Great walk! Plus we saw some penguins to top it off!
Would definitely recommend doing the walk around the island, if passing Victor Harbour.
Nice afternoon walk on this granite island. You can see some pinguins at dusk. Nice coffee shop on the island. You can the tram or walk the jetty to the island.
Beautiful scenery and the new sculptures have really added to the landscape. Disappointing that the public toilets on tje island were not being regularly serviced - it was holidays but this task still needs to be taken care of.
Great scenery but cafe is rather underwhelming serving toasties & icy poles and cold drinks. Originalcafe is no longer running so this small one is on offer
I thought it would be super touristy but it's actually awesome! So pretty and feels a bit like kangaroo island. The only downside is the horse carriage. I wish they would stop using horses for tourists.it's torture. You can easily walk or bike to the island.
Lovely view of Victor Harbor with a nice and easy walk around the island. More trees along the path would make it perfect! Just a shame you still see offenders not able to keep their litter until finding a bin.
The island is really nice and doesn't really have any boring bits. It works well as a calming peaceful walk, but also has enough rocks and trees to climb if you're looking for something adventurous. Also, there's no prickles, so you're fine to go barefoot ;)
