Granite Island Recreation Park reviews
60 Hello,
I was also here on Granite Island twice. A very small island with a very small conservation park. If you take your time and the weather is good, you will need about 1 hour to see everything, walk the circular route and find all the viewpoints.
You can take a horse-drawn carriage directly from the mainland to the east side of the island. From here you also have a nice view of Victor Harbor and the hinterland.
A must visit Granite Island. Would strongly recommend to do the loop walk on. If you are lucky, you may sight dolphins playing around.
Why did the small granite rock stand up to the big granite rock?
Because he was a little boulder!
10 years ago I visited Granite Island and never thought that I would go back as it was tired and dirty, BUT today my partner wanted to go and what a wonderful surprise! It was cleaned up with beautiful small parks and an amazing and scenic walk with beautiful views! A young man working there told me that it has been hard work for the team over the last 2 years. Well done! 5 stars!
Nice walk around the island but the new Cafe is very poor hardly any choice of food and limited seeting
Great place to explore, walking trails are easily accessible, views are stunning. We opted to walk the causeway, whilst others went on the horse pulled tram. Definitely on my to do again list
Great place to explore and see the wildlife. Have a look at the penguins and all the different types birds. Maybe even catch a glimpse of a whale or two. And I highly recommend catching a ride across to the island on the horse pulled carriage.
On a sunny day, it’s a good place to spend a quality time. Very calm n quiet place with beautiful views all around. Enjoy the walk close to nature. Nice trail. When in Adelaide do plan a visit to this place. You can enjoy the ride on horse tram too. Enjoy light snacks in the eateries around
We have done this walk too many times to count now. I love it no matter what time of year. I hope the Cafe will open up sometime soon though. Great sights and walks for everyone. Bring on whale watching season as this is a prime position to spot them.
Beautiful views and scenery.
Disappointing the eatery is closed down again.
Also horse drawn tram only works limited hours and there was people left waiting on island for return trip to Victor Harbor without notice the tram had finished for the day.
They then had to walk back with 2 elderly people unhappy.
Amazing island to do some walking and take nice pictures, need to come back to see more this wonderful place
Wonderful little island, with a great 45min walk (loop) that allows great views back across to Victor Harbour and out into the ocean. Little cafe on the island too, with a horse and cart a nice attraction to take you across the bridge.
Stumbled across Granite Island and although didn’t plan on walking around it, it just seamlessly happened! It was a really beautiful walk and easy enough for someone who is quite unfit and has arthritis. We saw a pod of 10+ dolphins swimming by from one of the lookouts which was so wonderful to see and the paths are well kept and easy to follow. Some interesting landscapes for photography and didn’t take too long to get around.
Great walk with awesome views, very first time my partner and I went there we saw a whale and its calf coming out from the harbor area. A great area in general to get away from everything to relax and unwind.
I'm sure that you use to be able to walk past the kiosk instead of going up the stairs and keep going around the island. We had a pram so the stairs were not an option.
Always a wonderful place to visit. Be prepared to do a lot of walking. No shop or Cafe available, looked locked up and sad.they do have toilets.
Lovely walk over the causeway to the island. The walk around the island is very easy with different scenery all around.
One of the best place to check out in Granite Island. Some people were also fishing, picnicking, walking, or just chilling.
A bit disappointing that the cafe and tuna farm not working. The walk around the island is ok. Need more seats. The penguin exhibit needs upgrading. Generally the island in need of a upgrade.could become a great tourist destination.
We got the horse drawn cart over a long bridge to this beautiful island. Definitely worth a walk, explore, swim, fishing, picnic with the family.
