FRED Eatery reviews
75Food was really tasty, well presented. Great atmosphere. Only negative is it was a bit on the pricier side and the menu was a bit restricted.
Food was soo, so good. It is a bit more on the costly side but well worth it. Meals are well sized. Comfy seating, personally love the pillows and blankets and general decor!
Not often I can't finish a dish, but the portions were so generous I had to cave. Delicious too.
Very popular so worth booking a table or leaving time to wait.
Lovely sprinkling of boutique shops nearby too.
Baked beans new recipe is bloody great let alone how good the rest of the food was. As if that wasn't enough the coffee was the best I'd had in months
Food and service is quite good and consistent. Coffee is great. Only thing consistently poor is attitude; not very friendly - bare that in mind when going there.
A wonderful and unique spot for breakfast before a bit of wine tasting. Thank goodness there was more on offer than the ubiquitous avocado on toast! Lots of options for those who like something a bit more interesting than the usual breakfast fare. Love that you order and pay at the counter to save scrambling you do the bill at the end. A delightful eatery.
Could not agree more with the sentiments of previous reviewers in terms of the disgusting attitude of the manager.
"arrogant and unfriendly"
"rude"
"abrasive and unhelpful"
"abrupt"
I attended with my cousin a few weeks ago and was treated with the same contempt and rudeness experienced by other reviewers. I asked a question about the menu, as did another reviewer, and was similarly met with pompous distain.
I had had a very busy day and unfortunately forgot to note my table number before going up to the till to order. The manager found this completely unacceptable and shoved a map at me while belittling me for slowing down service. I wasn't sure which of two tables ours was on the map and pointed to the one I thought was ours. He rolled his eyes. I note this seems to be a common experience, with one facebook reviewer stating "Never felt so unwelcome, not a smile or any form of courtesy from any of the staff members. Then, when ordering at the counter and experiencing the condescending customer service from the owner for not remembering my table number, I understood why everybody was in a such bad mood. "
The whole exchange made me feel like I had barged into his home uninvited and was an enormous imposition on him. I wondered if he just didn't like me, or was having a particularly terrible day (we all have them sometimes) but after having seen review after review (both on here and on other platforms) mention the same common themes and experiences, it is very clear that it is not just me. One reviewer who had also forgotten her table number stated "The entire transaction felt like an annoyance to him and I left feeling like a kicked puppy. " I couldn't agree more with this feeling.
As others have stated, bad news travels fast. One unhappy customer is likely to tell ten other people they know to avoid a place if they have a bad experience. It's a real shame the manager seems to think that responding to reviewers patronisingly, blaming them for their experiences and telling them not to come back is an appropriate way to deal with constructive feedback, instead of changing his ways -
"please leave FRED alone and find another establishment". "we do not believe this is a genuine review". "you did present a rather negative demeanour". "FRED remembers the situation well, albeit very differently. FRED agrees it is probably best we maintain a safe distance from here on". "We acknowledge that you won’t be back, and that is probably best for all concerned". "Please leave FRED alone, move on and find another establishment that better suits your expectations. "
I'm sure I'll get a similar response to this review as others have had, or perhaps a suggestion that "you certainly are spending a lot of time on this – and we’re not sure that’s healthy" but ultimately the proof is in the multitude of other anecdotes which all say the same thing.
Perhaps during this terrible time in the world, where takeaway is the only possible venture for restaurants and cafes like FRED for the foreseeable future, the manager might consider how he can start to treat his customers with kindness at such a time as when FRED may be able to open properly for business again.
FRED Eatery has a small range of great food, a great range of beverages, and absolutely incredible service. We'll be back again!
Lovely vibrant atmosphere with many great tables we ate upstairs. Filtered sun light illuminating our food. The Happiness in a bowl was special Pork belly with egg omelette and Kimchi and mint salad gluten free.
Really disappointed with both the meal and the service. Arrogant, unfriendly manager and totally ignored by 3 different staff members. Unprovoked- I was very polite so they all had no reason to be so abrupt. Noticed that if you’re not a local or know the owners then they give you no attention at all. The gnocchi was incredibly bland! Menu is overpriced for what is served.
It’s also really loud. Third time I’ve been, won’t be visiting ever again- each time was like this.
The most incredible food and coffee I’ve ever tried —you need to try the cloud gnocchi! Staff are prompt and friendly, I always have a really pleasant experience when I visit FRED’s.
Great coffee and good food but don't leave your credit/debit card with them. In order to run a tab they take your credit card if you then don't pay by credit card (I paid by cash) they don't take responsibility for returning your card. I ended up canceling my card because I thought I'd lost it. They didn't return it to my bank or even call the bank after a whole week went by. So, thanks guys.
Delicious food, great coffee and friendly staff. Absolutely loved my experience at FRED and looking forward to come back!
Excellent services. Fully booked. Luckily my wife book a table. Unique and nice food. Will come again. Scott Goh from Scott Goh photography.
Have come here for both breakfast and lunch a number of times with no regrets. Fantastic food and coffee, great atmosphere, plenty of seating options, their melting moments are incredible and you will not regret coming here!
Really interesting little place. Great decor, lovely staff and a very interesting menu. The food was delicious with very prompt service. While it was very busy, it wasn't overwhelming and you could still hold a conversation without having to shout.
Highly recommend making a booking though, they sadly had to turn a lot of people away due to it being so busy.
I've been loving the service here, polite and friendly action every time. Coffee has always come out quality so I can def recommend adding this cafe to your rotation
Absolutely wonderful experience. We had the mezzanine level to ourself for Friday night dinner. The food was delicious and service excellent. Keen to stop in again soon!
We stopped in at Fred's for a quick coffee but came away with so much more. Fred gave me quite possibly the best soy cappuccino I've ever had and by far the best in Adelaide. The attention to detail in regards to the decorations was amazing and the friendly and helpful staff created a warm and inviting environment. I look forward to coming back to Fred's with the rest of the family to try some food.
Great to see this place buzzing finally. Coffee was on point and service was above what i expected for a busy cafe.
Will be back.
