Empress Restaurant reviews
73 We love coming for birthday dinners here as the food is delicious and fresh.
It is also one of our favourite places for takeout.
The best restaurant in Adelaide, every dish is delicious, and the service is friendly, the owner is kind, a highly recommended restaurant.
Food and service were averages, but I saw some of the staff holding a tray of new food and putting some of the 'used' plates together, which is not hygiene and that is why I only give 3 star.
The most delicious Chinese food I've ever had! We were there on one of their busiest days of the year (Father's Day) and yet the service was exceptional. We will be back! THANK YOU
Great takeaways. Good quality and fair prices. 2023 update: Empress Restaurant have upped their game, and are now my go-to takeaway most weeks. They have changed delivery service which is much better and more predictable. Menu is great. Prices reasonable. Food excellent. Highly recommended.
Always a good food dining experience - lots of great dishes to impress your taste buds and supported by a competent host and his staff.
The food was good though it was public holiday and the restaurant was very busy. The service was good and the waiters/waitresses were attentive. Yvonne
Edit 25/5/23: I came back to dinner again and the whole management team were gone. The services is up to par now. The food is still excellent! No unrealistic expectations like some comments below. I revised it from 1 to 4. They deserved it!

I don't mind show my real face and leave a review here. I really hope that I don't NEED TO come to this restaurant anymore.
I have no problem with their food, in fact their food is excellent! So, that's why they have a lot of customers, and booking is essential.
Unfortunately for me, I have to go there once in while without a booking and my experience is ALWAYS bad!
This time I thought maybe an elderly lady ask the lady boss for a table might be better. But it got worst! It got to a point that I have to make this review.
The lady boss answer my mum with a flat tone without any smile "UNDER WHAT NAME! ", My mum said "No Booking! ", The lady boss reply with a quick smile and said "No table! " And walk off. What kind of customer service is that? Maybe I should apologize to the boss, there is no way to treat an awards winning restaurant like this, how dare I walk in without any booking! "I'm sorry boss! " with an 90° angle bow.
You will be the judge, I don't want to add anymore comment!
The best yum cha to date we had in South Australia. Very authentic. The taro/芋角 was so delicious and not only.there are so many other things on menu we would love to order, certainly would come back again.
Thoroughly enjoyable meal with a wonderful selection from the Yum Cha menu. One of my guests had never before tried Yum Cha and was especially pleased with our shared lunch. One small minor "complaint". We would have liked a few different sauces brought to the table with our various choices. We will definitely return to The Empress.
Very nice food. Love the Empress noodles. Try to smile more. That would get the fifth star.
Sunday Yum Cha is a must here!
Well balanced flavours. Good service and nice ambience. Only missing a star, as there wasn't a big selection of steam food that came around at the time we were dining
Mentioned 3 times that we were never provided any bowls to the waiters and the waitresses. Never got any responses. Attitude was so rude, low level of respect, and the food is overpriced, RECOMMEND NO ONE TO COME HERE
Not far off 5 stars. Had Yum Cha on a hot Saturday. It was reasonably quiet but plenty of people and staff. We had 7 people at one table with the essential lazy susan.
Food and service we're excellent. We order LOTS of different dishes. Ordering was on a sheet of paper, not from carts circulating. Free parking behind the restaurant. Highly recommend.
Consistently good Chinese food. The restaurant’s own app is a convenient way to order. We regularly get take away and it never disappoints. Our family favourite is the lemon chicken, pad Thai and fried rice. I can also recommend the Choo chee curry, satay and beef with ginger and shallots.
Most of their food are really delicious.
Food tried included:
· Peking duck (& second course with noodles) $70
· Canton style sizzling beef
· Honey prawns
· Honey chicken
· 5 spices Fried tofu
· Smoked tea duck
· Chicken salted fish fired rice
· Shallot pancakes
Some of the food on salty side but went perfectly well with steamed rice.
The duck noodle is a bit oily.
Smoked tea duck is served with a tall clear cover and can see the smoke inside.
Very nice decor. Clean. Utensils are in good conditions.
Service is average, not too attentive.
Plenty of parking.
First time dining at Empress and I was impressed!
Portions were good for the price. We still had leftovers to take home!
Their duck is yummy!
Will definitely come back and try their yumcha. Unfortunately, it’s only serve during lunch hours.
Really good authentic chinese food. Highly recommend you visit here. Staff service is excellent especially during Yum Cha. Parking out the back is convenient also. You must book ahead?
Very aesthetically pleasing restaurant with good parking abd great food. Very friendly service generally & great atmosphere
Our favourite Chinese restaurant in Adelaide. The food is always good and the service is attentive and friendly. The prawn dumplings and duck pancakes are excellent starters for the meal. Our compliments to the chefs, wait and bar staff. Thanks for a great night out.
