Coal Cellar + Grill reviews
65Hilton Hotel Breakfast at Coal Cellar & Grill with friends before a day out shopping in Rundle Mall, a great relaxing day.
Christmas dinner. 3 courses. Excellent quality ingredients. Kingfish starter was 3xceptionally fresh Steak perfectly cooked. Veggies ok. Deserts well presented
Best steak I have had in a long time - great service, nice relaxing environment - that was last year's 2019 Xmas lunch - this year it was a whole new bad experience - we couldn't relax as the waiters/resses were constantly approaching and pushing in what seemed to us as to meet a deadline - the entrees and starters were so poor and the main sirloins were dry and not medium rare - the pavlova needed was very hard - all this is unacceptable - we don't normally complain we just will never return - this was a bad Xmas lunch compared to last year
The eye fillet was the best steak we’ve ever had.and we’ve had a lot of steaks! Absolutely incredible and flavourful and cooked to perfection. A very nice surprise
I'm visiting from SF, best food in Adelaide so far! Great Scotch Steak (I've not heard of this cut before either? !), Strawberry+Salad & Pavlova dessert.
Excellent high tea.lovely plates, cups & saucers, teapot.the high tea itself was a great selection of pastries and cakes.plenty for all and beautifully presented.the service was wonderful.atmosphere lovely.location excellent.i would say value for money.we took public transport to the Hilton Hotel and that proofed to be very easy.highly recommend for High Tea
Good service and food. Did not feel rushed between courses. Treated as a guest, privacy at table. Not disappointed with any aspect of the evening dinner.
We were lucky enough to get the private room at the front of the restaurant. The service was flawless. In fact it was beyond our expectation. We had a baby with us at a function and we were offered food for the baby that was not on the menu. We didn't expect that. She was very friendly and attentive. Food was very nice too.
Visited this place just for a drink and a small bite. I asked the barman what's their signature cocktail and he offered the Charlie Chaplin. It was not on the menu but I'll tell you, was awesome! Also ordered 6 natural oysters and what stand out was the sauce. It seems a combination of fish sauce, chili, sugar, and lime. I think it's a sort of Asian sauce. Service was good and thank you to the barman who offered the Charlie Chaplin drink.
Very friendly! We have the sirloin steak express lunch at $30, with a glass of red, very reasonable price. The meat is juicy. Very relaxing environment.
Incredible food. I flew back to adelaide from the u.k and my first request was to come back to coal for a feed.
Fantastic place for a romantic dinner or a chat up with mates. The steaks are superb and the service is impeccable. Highly recommend the Tomahawk
Second time had breakfast here and the buffet has everything you could want, staff are very friendly and helpful
Very much enjoyed the bone in rib eye. Table generally agreed it was the best steaks of all the places that were visited over the week.
I came here for my work Christmas party and we took advantage of the $25 Express Lunch deal. It was disappointing. I got the lentil dish and I felt ripped off. Even if I got a glass of wine, which I decided not to have, I still wouldn't have felt it was value for money. I honestly wouldn't have paid any more than $10 for the dish, and that was surely not a $15 glass of wine. So, value for money just isn't there. I might give it another go, this time for dinner, but I won't get my hopes up too much.
Dinner was just ‘ok’, but fell well short of excellent. The service from the tall lady was quite good, but the other two resembled what you would find in a pub. One of them kept yelling jovial things to the chef across half the restaurant, which ruins their attempt at upper cut dining. The ambiance and lighting are potentially the saving grace, but mind, I had to clean my booth seat before I could sit because it had crumbs all over it.
As for the food - it was a three-star special. I had the seared scallops for an entree and the grilled salmon for main. The scallops were not crisp and the chorizo crumble was soggy. The overall lack of texture was fairly disappointing, the taste ended up similar to a fish stew.
The cream sauce reduction used for the salmon was excellent, but the salmon skin was charred far too much. The main was served with half steamed cauliflower, but this side was canteen level cookery.
Overall this is a place that attempts 5 star food and service, charges accordingly but falls well short. I would suggest going to a restaurant closer to North Terrace, there are many good ones.
Great food, excellent service. Would have been a 5 star, but we had to send 2 of the barramundi dishes back to the kitchen as undercooked. No fuss, quick turnaround and the barramundi was then excellent. Will definitely be back.
Try their quick lunch for $25. Comes with a main, a drink and coffee. Service is fast and friendly.
Service was great food was yum.steak was a little over cooked but still yummy. The sides and desert were delicious to. Thanks
Food poor. Steak overcooked and cold. Salads missing advertised ingredients. Staff however excellent on service. Function manager difficult. I won't go back.
