Coal Cellar + Grill reviews
65A gastronomical feast for all the senses. We came for a special dinner and were not disappointed. Great atmosphere and beautifully presented food and good wine list.
Nice dinning room. Too dark to read the menu. The font on which is so small you need a magnifying glass. Most of there clientele is over 40 and likely needs glasses. Belinda our server was unfriendly and unhelpful from the off.
My friend had a steak with prawns. The prawns were inedible. The side lettuce thing in photo also disgusting. We didn’t pay for either. It was my second attempt. I will never go back.
Excellent steak! Had a rare Angus striploin accompanied with jus that was perfectly cooked, tender and tasty. A bit more S&P would have made it better. Shared a chimichurri, blue cheese sauce and fries with parmessan and truffle aioli. Chimichurri wasn't to my liking. I liked the blue cheese that had a sharper cheesier taste compared to others that are slightly sweeter and runnier. Fries was good and I didn't mind the truffle ailo but there was already too much of fat on my palate from my sides to include the aioli.
We had dinner last Saturday. Nice tasty food.we have own private room.
5 star for food
5 star for hospitality.
The quality for the price is OUTSTANDING. Best steak I've had in all of Adelaide. The atmosphere is sophisticated and classy, as well as warm and wholesome. The staff are welcoming and will go above and beyond for you. I also very much recommend the buffet breakfast if you stay at the hotel as well.
This place feels very luxurious, the atmosphere is beautiful with low lights and an expensive feel. Food was quite good, the gnocchi was a little on the sweet side for their meat free main unfortunately. Really enjoyed their range of cocktails and the service was fantastic. Absolutely will be returning.
The best steak in Adelaide. Everything we ate and drank was first rate. The service was good without being exceptional but the quality of the food more than made up for any slight lapses.
The service was excellent
Food was amazing with the barramundi left me wanting to go back for more another day
Price on the high side but then you are satisfied when paying the bill
Had a dreadful meal at Coal last night. Utterly disappointing with the added insult of premium pricing for a less than even average experience. You only get one chance at a first impression, particularly when it’s part of an experience (it was our anniversary). You let us down. Serious fail.
My girlfriend and I went to coal cellar and grill for her 21st birthday, to say the customer service was amazing is an understatement. Monique (our Waiter) really looked after us and made us feel so welcome. My girlfriend loved it so much she took me back for my birthday the next week, and lucky enough we had Monique again, she even remembered our names and knew it was my birthday. Before we left the chefs and Monique really treated us and it was an experience like no other. I highly recommend dining here for the food, the service and especially the steaks.
The food was immaculate. And when I say this I mean it!
We went to Coal Cellar + Grill for the first time to celebrate my 21st with family!
We got a private room with a set menu for $75 per head which is reasonably priced seemings the options you get to choose out of!
I recommend Coal Cellar + Grill for your next birthday or special event!

Notice the seating on who sits in the main area and who sits in the small obscure side room. Disappointing they follow this archaic practice.
Service was slow and I asked the staff member about the champagne hour that was on which she had no idea about, ended up with a passion fruit margarita which was delicious though
Beautiful food, but I didn't feel like lingering and enjoying the restaurant after eating my main course.
But seriously, the food here is really good.
Went there for the wife's work dinner. There were probably 30 or so people in our group so we were in a room on our own, which was nice. Food was delicious. The only downside was a pretty average beer list. Not everyone wants to drink Coopers Pale.
Had a wonderful experience at the Hilton hotel last night. Ash was an absolute gentleman. 5 stars on the service and kindess. Literally helped me with all my food and drinks whilst handling the busy crowd. Absolute champion! Cannot fault service and food. Will definitely be coming back for more
Steak was very mediocre here which was disappointing. Ordered the tomahawk steak to share. The vegetables were burnt and the meat which was ordered medium was unevenly cooked so parts were bloody while others were well done and chewy. It was also very fatty. Had to order tomato sauce twice before we received it and it wasn't even busy that night. Sauces (jus and bernaise) which came with it were salty. The side fries were a bit soggy.
The roast duck entree was very good though, albeit small. We also ordered a creme brulee for dessert with the special basque cheesecake. The creme brulee was well made with a beautiful honeycomb ice cream side. But the basque cheesecake was really disappointing. It was hard and typically like a NY style cheesecake and not at all like the creamy basque versions I'm used to. And it was tasteless. The only redeeming feature in the desert was the fig ice cream accompanying but even that wasn't big or strong enough to overcome the tasteless deficiency in the dessert. Definitely not worth $170.
Visited this place just for a drink and a small bite. I asked the barman what's their signature cocktail and he offered the Charlie Chaplin. It was not on the menu but I'll tell you what? Was awesome! Also ordered 6 natural oysters and what stand out was the sauce. It seems a combination of fish sauce, chili, sugar, and lime. I think it's a sort of Asian sauce. Service was good and thank you to the barman who offered the Charlie Chaplin drink.
Had full buffet breakfast in this place. Pretty standard, nothing spectacular. Hot food- sausage, bacon, eggs (omelet, poached, fried), vegetarian fried rice and mushrooms, tomato. - thats pretty much ur selection.
Cold food- yoghurt, cereals, some breads- croissant etc.
Add the juice and coffee
Was hoping for more choices.
Best Wagyu steak ever. Cooked perfect and would drink the Jus everyday for the rest of my life. 100% will be back.
