Auchendarroch House reviews
56I recently (July 2020) visited the Auchendarroch House (Oak & Iron) with a couple of friends to catch up. While I noticed a few things I didn't like, my friends were the ones to make comment. Firstly, we were given our menus and told to sit anywhere (normally you are being led to your table and the menues provided to you after you have sat - so there is a bit of personal service gone that used to make you feel a little special and as though you were in a slightly more sophisticated venue). Secondly, we were asked to order our food at the counter (see bracket above - we were very disappointed with this). The first of the main courses arrived after some time, with the two others following 25! Minutes later, the cash registers were blamed, as someone supposedly ordered at the other counter, squeezing themselves inbetween our orders (perhaps so, but 25 minutes worth?). There was no table-service to speak off, none of the dishes were cleared, no-one came to check how we were doing or even whether we wanted another drink (I understand there may be a fear that people walk out forgetting to pay for those additional drinks - why not ask on the way out, and, to be honest, I think the money the restaurant would make from additional drinks sold would far outweigh the few people who may forget to pay for theirs). So, WE needed to initiate getting our drinks, WE needed to get up to get the desert menu. We were kept so busy organising our food and drinks (no table water, either), and apparently by ordering starters one forfeits the complimentary breadrolls, too, that we didn't really feel like we could relaxed and get engrossed in our catch-up. In short, the food was so so, a little lukewarm and nothing special, certainly not worth the wait. The service was downright bad. The pampering we used to experience was what set the venue aside from other restaurants in Mt Barker (we already were very sad to see the salad bar go, not only, because I like salad, but because now, that it comes on the plate, ALL the salad my children get is wasted, because they won't eat it). Lastly, the cake, non-generous portions, tasted rather stale and was, again, really nothing special at all, especially considering the price. To summarise: we are not coming back.
Love the Auchondarroch beautiful meals. Great place to catch up because you hear one another talk not noisy even when they have a crowd
Excellent service from the team but the food was a bit ordinary. Perhaps if I ordered one of the special it may have been different. Chips were obviously frozen
Restaurant venue associated with the cinema complex in mt barker in the Adelaide hills. Friendly efficient service and the food came out fairly quickly after ordering. Menu selection was quite good, and prices were reasonable. Food was good size and tasty. Worth a try.
Lovely setting.
Delicious food.
Reasonably priced menu.
Friendly and professional staff. Dean was fabulous.
Thank you it was definitely worth the drive.
We arrived late one evening before The Melbourne Cup; and still received full service.
The meals are great value, considering the large portion size. Definitely satisfied, upon leaving with the experience.
'Turner', gave us great service and explained the specials regime. Considering they were setting up for The Cup service the next day, we really appreciated that.
Food was lovely, service was reasonable, reasonably busy, meals came our in an appropriate time and all together. Would eat here again.
We have been to there restaurant many times. The food is always good. This time I had the BEST ever steak sandwich on sour dough bread. With some of the most beautifully cooked chips.
We ate alfresco with the beautiful gardens as a back drop.
A must visit venue for anyone!
Where’s the vegan options? This is just ridiculous that in this day and age, there aren’t any vegan options. Not all of us like eating cruelty.
Most amazing service the team there are the friendliest bunch, and the food was A+ keep up the great food and service.
Visited for coffee and cake. There are no vegan options for deserts but there are dairy free options for drinks. Lot's of room to sit and talk with friends over coffee. They open later which was great. Friendly service.
Went to enjoy a night out and tried to order drinks seeing other customers having theirs. Tried to order at the bar but a worker named, John. He was only rude and abrupt saying they don't serve until 5.30 (the time was 5.25 but others had already ordered and recieved their drinks) and proceeded to serve other customers. A young waitress then served us and had to apologize for his behavior. But John took 10 minutes to bring us our drinks after ordering.
I would avoid this waiter if possible.
Great place to take the family. Great meals and Reasonably priced. The service was amazing. Would recommend to anyone.
Love the Pizzas and coffee here. Had a Bang Bang Chicken Toasted Bagette today and it was delicious!
New light stylish fresh menu. Very clean good service. Worth the wait for construction to be finished.
2 hours and 10 minutes wait. Place near empty no excuse. Couldn't eat mine had fish but way to greasy yuk. Place has gone to the pack. 4 meals order just quick menu as had to see movie still cost $184 what a joke. The original staff fantastic not their fault. We wont return
