Alma Tavern reviews
66Had a great experience with my family last weekend at The Alma, great atmosphere, the service was great and the food was amazing. We will definitely be back!
The Alma has become a regular for us for a quiet dinner (there is carpet on the floor so you can have a conversation without yelling!) with friendly efficient service and an exceptionally interesting menu for pub dining. The kitchen delivers what the menu suggests and more. Definitely recommend!
Honestly the best vegan food my partner and I have eaten out. He got the pad Thai and I got the eggplant schnitzel with the parmi topping added. It was amazing! Great service and atmosphere too. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Friendly staff, good food. Still a pub, but a good quality pub. Good beer choices and better than average whiskies available. Not a stand out, but will always scratch the "pub meal" itch.
Great place, great food. Great range of vegan options, not just the one or two token options that most other pubs seem to offer. Celiacs catered for as well. Thumbs up all round
The food is amazing and very allergy/ diet restrictions friendly, absolutely no concerns navigating as someone who cannot have gluten and loved the range of options readily available. The staff are friendly and attentive (especially Kyle who was also fantastic when I needed an assistance animal friendly booking). Thank you for a lovely night, we will continue to dine with you guys and recommend it to our friends.
Awesome place to go for the pub quiz on a Tuesday. Had dinner here twice and both times were great. Burgers, schnitzels, nachos etc - all good. Specific shout out to the gluten-free pizza. It's the least-gluten-free-tasting pizza I've ever eaten - they're usually tough and hard but this was almost like eating normal pizza.
Very relaxed and comfortable pub, friendly staff and good food. Lunch today was very nice, good value and efficient service. My beef schnitzel could have been better in that it had a big piece of gristle running through it and the crumb completely separated from the meat. But very tasty, and really good peppercorn sauce. It's nice that you can choose your side from about 5 different things, which you get as well as the regulation chippies! Hubbys pizza was very nice, could have used another 5 mins in the wood oven though. Have been many times and always have a great experience.
Never been here before but I should have. Food was fantastic. I had the kangaroo (special) and it was perfectly cooked and presented. Service was very friendly. Recommend that you try it!
Customer service is absolutely impeccable!
My mother inlaw has had her birthday there for a couple of years, and this year there was an lovely flower arrangement on our table for her.it was from the team at the Alma. Such a wonderful gesture. Above and beyond! Well done.also food was awesome!
So pleased with the service and wonderful and tasty selection of veggie meals! Definitely coming back!
I can reliably get zero alcohol beer here, which makes for more, safer, drinking while playing bingo on Wednesdays with our friends. Yes there are great prizes and it’s FREE to play, plenty of space, atmosphere and fun here with celebrity sports identities occasionally attending. The menu is great and there’s also a great dining area, or, if you’re a social organiser, there’s private function rooms.
Rips people off with drinks. E.g. 15 bucks for a 78deg G&T where it's $11 at pubs down either side of the road.
What happened to service
We had booked a party of 8 for dinner in the restaurant to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. Having been to Alma hotel over many years ago i thought the dining room would be perfect for the occasion.
Service started out fine on drinks and food orders, Meals were a little slow in arriving but can deal with that. The meals arrived and the porterhouse steaks that were ordered medium, were very tough and on the small side. They filled the plate with too much plain green salad. I The other meals were well received. But when it was time to clearing the table and coming back to ask us whether we would like dessert and coffee, thats when it was a total let down. We sat there for ages 15mins plus. I know we could have got up and chased service but should we in a restaurant that was only a 1/3rd full?
We got up paid and left. Could have chosen a number hotels around the area. I was disappointed for my wife and her family on this occasion.
Fish and chips with side order of Mac n cheese was great, only it was too many chips would have loved a salad. As usual Kyle and all the staff were fantastic.
The senior's meal today was a joke. I did not know it was April Fool's day today. Do they think that if you are over 65 that you eat like a bird, pathetic, daylight robbery. What they gave me would fit on a bread and butter plate.
Will never darken their door again.
Friendly staff. Pity about the food. Thai beef salad consisting of a few spinach leaves, some carrot, 6 slices of beef, no sauce but plenty of noodles. The soggy tempura fish was no better. Never again.
Went there for the Melbourne cup lunch and and could not hear anything for the volume of the TV which was way too loud.
Don't think I would go back there again in a hurry
Had been done up very nicely but it's not the Pub I knew. Not to say it isn't for others except for the over priced drinks and no Jack in bottles.
Went to the Alma for a friend’s 60th from when we arrived the service was impeccable (thanks Kyle) your the best. The food was first class, had the roasted pork loin it was amazing. Love the Alma and will definitely be going back and recommending the Alma to everyone. Thanks Guys for a very enjoyable day.
