Mountview Alpaca Farm reviews
58My 9 year old had an amazing time feeding and walking a beautiful, small alpaca who was gentle and sweet. The reason for 4 ratings is that my 6 year old, who was already visibly unsure about the situation and hiding behind me was given the largest, most belligerent alpaca. It got aggressive towards a male who came near us during the walk. It was hard to control and too large for a child as I struggled to get it to move and was nervous handling it. My 6 year old freaked out and was terrified. My husband and I were both there and did not expect the children to handle the alpacas alone, however I felt more appropriate choices to at least give the child a chance to be near the alpaca would have been great. I feel staff could make better choices matching alpacas to guests. I saw adult couples walking around who arrived after us with smaller, more manageable animals. Overall a recommended experience.
An awesome intro to alpacas especially for people who are unfamiliar with being around them (me). The cafe serves a decent variety and the live music really adds to the mood. You can walk around with an alpaca on a leash for 15 or 30 minutes or just opt to feed the ones in the enclosure for much less. Cool beans
What an amazing day out, walk and feed the alpaca’s then grab a fantastic gourmet picnic and a local bottle of wine from the O’Reilly’ Canungra Valley Vineyards or dine in their restaurant. Don’t miss this opportunity!
The walk an alpaca experience was wonderful. My kid loved it so much she is still talking about it.
Although the gift shop was closed we had a chance to stop awhile and pat the alpacas, very cute?
We were concerned though for a
few of them in the front enclosure.
They looked quite unwell and their coats were wet and a bit mangey, though the day was dry and sunny, but perhaps that's normal?
Thank you to Jen, Shania and all the staff at Mountview Alpaca farm and O'Reillys Vineyard for a lovely day on Saturday the 4th, a 40th birthday celebration. All of our guests adults and children loved the whole experience - alpha walks and feeding, wine tasting and the pizza lunch. The venue is lovely and relaxed and the staff were very helpful with the organisation prior to the day and the function on the day.
What a great way to spend a few hours. We did the walk & pizza "package" highly recommend.
Spent 2 hours here, suggest buying feed and see if you can cope with the alpacas.
If you feeding a group, beware they may fight for food and spit happens!
You can then pay AUD 20 for walking an alpaca for 15 mins, we had Thor and he only pays attention to feed and grass, he does not walk much and has his own pace.
Its fun after all, alpacas are gentle and lay back in general.
A unique way to picnic by the Alpacas! I love the fuss free service. I ordered my picnic basket and Alpaca experience online a few weeks prior, head to location, picked up my picnic basket and enjoyed! The picnic package I bought included a one-hour walking with an Alpaca and 2 packets of Alpaca feed! Just a word of advice, do not use up all your feeds on feeding Alpaccas in the pen (those not appointed for walking) as you would really need some when it's time to walk one. If you don't have feeds at hand, the Alpaca will end up eating grass and you won't be able to walk them much.
Also I would like to commend the friendly staff both manning the dining area (where the picnic basket is collected) and the Alpaca farm. They are warm and welcoming.
This is an experience not to be missed!
Friendly and relaxed staff (and alpacas). Good family outing only about 45 mins from Surfers. Can be pricey for walk up tickets but look online for deals. Meals at neighbouring O'Reilly's are expensive so head back to Canungra for more food options.
Love it. Love it. Will come back again for sure. And thank you so much for going above and beyond when I dropped my purse. It was a little ordeal for us. Thank you.thank you
We loving coming here on the weekend with the kids.
Gorgeous view.
Yummmy ice cream for the kids
You can also do a barbeque and enjoy the mountain view with the family
This is the closest interaction i ever have with alpacas, i could walk 1 alpaca with myself and they are all so cute and friendly. Each have their own unique personalities and names. (My brown alpaca name was “Bear”, the moment we opened the gate she approached me gently, volunteered for a walk!) Really recommend for the walking of alpacas (30 mins is good) it’s cheap as well.
Wonderful place to get up close and personal with the Alpacas. You can pay to lead them around or just go up and pat them. We got cheaper Groupon vouchers for the full experience. There's an Alpaca gift shop there and over in the other building a cafe. Well worth a visit
This is the absolute place to go if you need a quick escape from the city and reconnect to nature.the alpacas are so entertaining and cute, next door there is a restaurant that on Sunday had lovely live music plus the option to borrow a blankie for a picnic.
Great experience for the kids to walk, pat and feed the alpacas. Also great picnic lunches while you are there at O'Reillys winery by Canungra creek. Great staff.
Amazing place and an amazing experience. The staff inform you of the do's and don'ts of walking an alpaca and even tell you a little about the individual alpaca. The staff are friendly and very relaxed. As long as you listen to the staff, you need not worry about the temper of any alpacas.
$15 for 15min walk + $3 for one small bag of alpaca feed. Was it worth the drive? Umm maybe if you’re heading to Lamington National Park I would say it’s definitely worth the 20min stop at the farm. The alpacas can be moody so we had to switch our first Alpaca named Thor (he loved hugs but didn’t want to go for long walks) for TimTam, who disliked hugs but loved to nibble on the kibble. The garden has a creek at the back so it can be a nice place for a picnic. They also have a cafe in the main winery so it could be a good stop of a snack as well.
