Gracie Barra Burleigh Heads

I would stay far far away from this gym. I signed my son up for a membership which was $55 per week. When I signed up I was told you can cancel any time with no lock in contract. I needed to cancel a month later as we needed to move suddenly and I was told I either needed to pay another MONTH or I had the option of putting the membership on hold. They convinced me to put it on hold, which I regretfully did. I thought maybe we would be back in the new year to try the gym again. I continued to get charged for weeks after this. Sometimes $55 sometimes $38 always a different price. And then I found out actually to have it on hold you need to pay $11 per week and they didn’t know what was happening and why I was being charged more than $11. This entire thing sat wrong with me as they are dishonest with what you are signing up for. I’ve since been paying the $11 hold fee per week and never got reimbursed the weeks I was charged extra. To top it of I just checked my bank and once again I’m being charged FULL price each week with the last payment taken being $127? Is this place a scam? This is outright stealing.

Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed with this business.

We signed our three year old son up initially for two classes per week. We found due to work commitments we were only able to make one so went and spoke to staff and explained we wanted to drop one class so we weren’t paying for an extra class we couldn’t attend. We were told that’s no worries and they would sort it for me and never advised that if dropped that class we would have to continue to pay for two. If we were aware of this we would have canceled our membership and signed up elsewhere.

Quite some time later I noticed they were continuing the fee for the two classes so asked this to be rectified and they then told me that you have to pay the minimum of $54.50 no matter how many classes my 3 year old attends. 1. This is a ridiculous fee for a toddler doing one 30 min class a week 2. I was never advised of this when I asked to drop back a class for the pure reason of not wasting money

As well we were pretty shocked at some comments the instructor made to the kids. One day he was telling the kids if they don’t come more than once a week all the other kids are going to be better than them and they won’t be as good etc. While I could appreciate this advice for older children I don’t think it’s appropriate talk of encouragement to 3 year olds. Another day a child asked to go to the toilet and the instructor got him in trouble for not going before hand. My son is still not completely out of nappies and still toilet training so again don’t think this is very age appropriate comment for toddlers.

There were other instances of the kids in our opinion not getting the required attention as the teacher to children ratio wasn’t working and kids were having to sit and do nothing for periods of time that were too long for their age, and paying that cost for a 30 min lesson you don’t want your kids sitting around at all during the session so we definitely didn’t find it worth the fee.

Our kids do many sports and we have never experienced anything like this. It very much felt like a strict business scenario rather than a community for our kids so very happy to go elsewhere.

First time trying BJJ, the whole place is very clean and the aircon is great! Leo is an awesome instructor and Matt is very helpful! Very welcoming place, recommend 100%

Friendly environment, supporting team. My son didn’t need to think about signing up, he loved his free trial, we did it then & there. They are VERY clear in regards to if you need to cancel what the requirements & time frame is prior to signing the contract.

Great community, everyone is so friendly, first class was very instructional, and the coaches were very patient with a first timer like myself

10/10 would recommend to anyone who is interested in learning BJJ

Excellent BJJ school, my son has absolutely loved his experience so far. All of the coaches and the team are so professional and friendly, they take time to engage with the kids individually and give them lots of confidence. Amazing place for kids to learn some self defence techniques, the staff is super friendly and all the lessons are focus respect, help each other and learn how to defend your self.

Both my boys have been members of GB Burleigh for close to 2 years now. We could not recommend them enough. The classes are balanced with discipline, technique, fitness and fun. The coaches have gotten to know our boys personally and really care about their development and have a way of pushing them for their own personal best in a supportive and encouraging manner. Both boys have made close friends they look forward to seeing every week in class.

Great location, great friendly people and exceptional teaching abilities by all Professors and Coaches. Recently had to place my membership on hold for 6 weeks due to family circumstances and this was done with ease and understanding. My son and I have been training at this location for 3 years now and we have no intention to leave. I highly recommend Gracie Barra Burleigh Heads for all age groups.
