RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility reviews
77Really interesting information on the history of the Royal Flying Doctor Service & the graphic display of the WW2 bombing of Darwin which I am sure most people are unaware of the extent.
Absolutely amazing experience. Staff fantastic. Holographic display wonderful. Highly recommend.
Absolutely the best experience to date in Darwin. VR experience, holigram are excellent.staff very helpful
Great destination to learn about the RFDS operations in Darwin and very insightful information regarding the bombing of Darwin by the Japanese on 19th February 1942. There are 2 informative short films about the history of the RFDS and WW2 bombing of Darwin together with a short virtual reality experience of both. Well worth the visit for everyone & is great value for money.
Fantastic cause and display. Opportunity to learn more about the RFDS and the Bombing on Darwin
Very exciting place, No 1 on your list, down on the wharf near all the restaurants. A very good display of RFDS includes a movie, 3D head sets, the bombing of Darwin plus. Plenty to keep you occupied for a couple of hours admin.is reasonable.
This is a "MUST DO" museum. The holographic introductions of both the RFDS and war and virtual experiences are informative and vivid. The work the RFDS did/does throughout the ages is beyond words for the comfort it brings families both outback and in emergency situations in other regions. The museum has a good balance of interactive and written history covering each section. The staff are caring and helpful.
Where does one start, from the impressive frontage of the facility to the interactive displays within, This facility would appeal to all ages, the history within the (VR) Virtual Reality experience is truly mind blowing! You are virtually there on the disastrous day, and witness exerts from the moments, and saw ships blowing up, planes being shot down etc. The RFDS side of things is also very interesting, telling the dream of John Flynn and the overall outcome of the modern day RFDS, as we see it today.
I suggest all family members witness this wonderful facility, and the friendly and helpful staff were only too happy to answer almost any question you threw at them.
A must see for travelers and Territorians alike.
Experience an excellent VR display of the Bombing of Darwin in 1942.
Follow that up with another VR experience with the flying doctor as they pick up a critically ill patient and fly him to Adelaide.
For information on Darwin bombing and the concept and growth of the flying doctors it's well worth a visit. This is a very well thought out display using modern technologies. There is virtual reality displays, a holographic theatre, a RFDS airplane and a bomb platform where your senses are given some idea of the feel of a bomb blast.
There is a free shuttle bus between Water front and RFDS.
Excellent help, fabulous virtual reality shows about bombing of Darwin and RFDS patient care and transfer
A bit disappointed with the Darwin RFDS Experience compared to Dubbo, which we visited earlier in the year. The Rev Flynn movie was mainly shouty acting, though the Etheridge Grant movie was actually interesting. The VR RFDS videos from inside the aircraft were enjoyable, but the bombing of Darwin VR was more motion sick inducing.
Unlike Dubbo, you could climb aboard the PC-12 and sit in the cockpit, which was great. However, I found less connection with the important work that the RFDS does.
If you haven't been to Dubbo this might be worthwhile.
Loved the history and how professionally the museum is put together. Well worth adding to your Darwin visit.
A must see on your visit to Darwin. An excellent portrayal of the virtues of the RFDS in Australia and also the 1942 Bombing of Darwin. A large use of film, sound and light shows and virtual reality makes it an amazing experience. Very helpful and friendly staff.
We spent a morning here being educated about the bombing of Darwin Harbour & the history of John Flynn & RFDS.very informative, friendly staff.
This is a fun way of exploring some of Darwin and the Territory's little known history. The Virtual Reality experiences are very interesting and bring a bit of a sense of what it might have been like during the bombing (and what it's like in a RFDS plane too). Worth a visit, and it doesn't take long to take it all in.
Informative with good interactive exhibits. Really good interactive displays with occulus rifts.
This display was very good. When we entered the building they had a darwin bombing display. A must is the virtual reality glasses. Could have spent more time there but lots to see.
WW2 real life experiences & the royal flying doctor experiences simply amazing! A must do in Darwin!
Excellent and extremely informative place.the virtual reality recreation of the actual bombing was some of the best stuff I've ever seen.made you feel like you were there yourself. I can't recommend it highly enough.check it out.it will not disappoint
