Barkly Homestead Wayside Inn reviews
72Avoid if you possibly can. Rented a "cabin" for an overnight stay as the temp was in the high 30s and wanted some aircon. $160/night for a donga that a miner wouldn't stay in, no bedside tables the bathroom had a rusty soap holder hanging by one screw, no hand soap or hand towel and the toilet didn't flush properly. Dogs must stay on the verandah not sure what damage they could do that could possibly have made this dump worse. But to top it off the aircon struggled to emit any cold air and caused the window next to the bed to vibrate noisily all night. Husband ordered wontons they were fried to a burnt crisp and inedible, I had fried halloumi strips, I don't know what was in it but it wasn't halloumi. Amazingly the vege burgers we had for lunch were awesome. Oh and the staff don't know the first thing about service or hospitality except for a new European backpacker who was pleasant. I was astounded when I received an email asking for a review. Well here it is.
Big drive through caravan parks, clean toilets and food was good.
Be prepared to pay $2.04 for diesel at the fuel pump
This caravan park is great. Staff are helpful, food is good, fuel is expensive but that is because it has to be transported thousands of kms. The electricity supply is a huge diesel generator that consumes 500 litres of diesel per day. We were happy to pay $40 to have power and water, and the opportunity to buy good coffee and food. Our site became wet and muddy following constant rain. By morning much of the water had drained away.
The expense is to be expected but friendly staff. Clean and neat areas to stay, food as expected from a roadhouse etc. Good place to stop for a break, lots of parking of the highway.
We have stayed here 3 times in the past 5 years. The ablution blocks have been renovated recently. Good shade. Meals at Roadhouse were good. $5 drinks for happy hour between 4 &5pm
A bit expensive, but when you consider they generate their own power, using 500 litres of diesel per day, it comes into perspective.
Great roadhouse with caravan park attached. Good range of food and coffee. A pleasant spot to fuel up.
Great location after a long drive across part of the Barkly Hwy. Plenty of patrons, something nor ideal for me to stop. Toilets were a mess but that can be timing. Staff appeared ok. I just grabbed a coffee to go and filled the car, so I am not your ideal reviewer if you wish to stay there.
Very expensive food (it's not even good food), coffee and fuel. Would hate to think how much it would cost to stay here.
Motel rooms were fine. My problem was the service. We were given keys to a room, when I had a look at the accommodation I went back and requested if we could swap to a room at the far end as it was shadier and since I had to tie my dog outside it was a far better place for her to be in the 42deg heat. They were unhelpful, even though the room was available they would not swap.we did not touch any thing in the room! So for customer service I give them a 1/5.
Amazing place for overnight.arrive early to guarantee a powered site. No bookings taken. Cold beer happy hour 4-5pm NT.
Great food. Yes fuel is dear, but u are in the middle of the Outback.
A friend booked 3 rooms to stay 2 nights at this place but because of COVID lockdowns and unable to get across the border they were unable to stay. So through NO FAULT of their own were they able to stay.
When asked to refund the money which was quite a large sum the manager refused to refund ANY money. This is quite disheartening and not good business at all
Food was good, but place had no Covid plan- toilets dirty, crowded, covid check in was pen and paper, ventilation poor
Great place to have breakfast n the menu for lunch n dinner look good.
The CV park area look good also.
Great bar with a motor bike hanging from the ceiling
Showers and toilets and big spaces for camping. Fairly dusty site but really good spot for an overnight. Food and coffee is pretty tasty too!:)
Friendly helpful staff, clean room, birdlife prolific. Get ready for a $12 glass of wine though. Toasted sandwiches yummy, but the pizza was very ordinary.
Fuel was expensive but we expected that, plan your fuel stops wisely, they are few and far between
5 stars only because 1000's of budgies descended on us. An unreal moment. But still okay, just noisy generator which can't be helped. Good burgers.
Not a place I'd recommend. It's somewhere you have to stop to refuel and they know it and treat you like it
They are not rude, just dismissive
The don't accept cash if their internet goes down and they will lock you out if this occurs
You have been warned!
Also they do not honour warranty on store products they sell. Forget Australian Consumer Law, the NT is lawless
Expensive and ordinary facilities won't stay there again rip off's on there fuel cabin prices a monopoly for the area avoid it
