Barkly Homestead Wayside Inn reviews
72I can't rate the rooms as we didn't stay here just passed thru, it's the main fuel stop along the Barkly highway to Mt Isa
Stayed with our dog. Room was simple clean and comfortable. Considering the remote location I could not have asked for better. Service was great from the young UK ladies but the older blond lady seemed a little cheeky. Guess you got to have a sense of humor that far out. The steak is good. The main store is super clean looks brand new.
We stayed at Barkly a few nights ago on the first night of moving from the NT to QLD & were pleasantly surprised that when they said a desert oasis, they weren’t exaggerating. Check in was very easy at the front counter of the station & our room was modern, clean & spacious with beautiful additional amenities. We booked one of the motel rooms & we’re close to both the pool & the homestead which was good for us as we were just there to eat & rest before driving on the next day. The food portions were massive (we had the parmi & nachos for dinner & the avo on toast for breakfast) & every staff member we came across was lovely. We also picked up this guy that we couldn’t leave behind.
As devastating as the fire was last year, the team at Barkly found the silver lining & came back better than ever. If we’re ever in the area again, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again
The recent upgrade is impressive. I don't know what they could do to prove the facilities given its super remote location.
Yeah the place has been done up well, no question but that does not help you much when staff is more interested in taking to each other, mixing up orders and not providing any customer service. I guess mc Donald’s has got more atmosphere.
We stayed at Barkly Homestead on the 14th of September and had to pay $220 for a cabin (cubicle more like it) and was very shocked to see what we got for $220. It was so small and dirty. We struggled to sleep that night. Even our dog had problems sleeping. We sent them an email with photos the following day and as of today no response. It was a truly horrible experience. Unfortunately we had to stay there last night as well as it is the only place to stay within hundreds of kilometers. We decided to camp this time and we were so surprised to see the nice ablution block. Brand new. Why did we have to endure the cubicle the previous time. Really not happy and that is why we only give them a one.
Some may say location is in the middle of nowhere… that’s the point, it’s so isolated that makes anyone wonder how it’s so clean, organised, serves best steaks and more. The Place is a must stop in and out the NT. I definitely recommend.
Staff were friendly and enthusiastic
The food is fresh and very tasty
Clean toilets, fully equipped
A worthy place to stop and rest
Lovely staff. We stopped in for lunch and had the nicest burgers and fresh crispy fries for 18 bucks per person. Lovely general store, restaurant and bar. Accommodation and pool look lovely too. Worth a stop
Cashier was busy doing transactions, and not fulfilling customer orders. Lenghty delays irritated some.
Rooms were ok floors a bit dirty but u are in the middle of nowhere bathroom was bad in the cabin I was in smelly and didn't look clean
Amazing place to stay.
They are renovating the cabins so will be even better once done.
Food was top notch.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
No hot water in showers. Food in bar was below par 300g rump steak smaller then palm of your hand, with all of 10 chips on plate. Could be a great stop over if some effort was put In.
Rolled in about 7pm staff were friendly and helpful. Amenities were clean. Plenty of grass for camping
Steak burgers always tasty and we'll presented.
Always stop there on the three ways- Isa run
Stayed overnight in one of the cabins. Clean and comfortable with aircon and it was a great break from riding in the 42deg heat.
The meals were great and the beer was cold. Got up early for a magnificent sunrise.
Awful experience here. Not child friendly at all. Cancelled two of our three nights as the owner was so aggressive and rude to my children she upset them. Will avoid next time for sure!
Lovely clean motel room. Staff wonderful, friendly and helpful. Bar great and restaurant food really good. Highly recommend for a cool stay on a hot road.
Friendly staff BUT. Lukewarm shower, blocked drain and busted lights. A bit of maintenance wouldn't go astray.
$30 powered site and good water. Sullage to trees. Each powered site is drive-through, separated by concrete/grass matting borders most with good shade. Looks neat. Power and water in each border. The roads and sites are all compacted red clay. 3 basic amenity blocks, all clean. Large unpowered section, well grassed. The bbq area/camp kitchen is a let-down - 1 fridge, 1 grubby bbq (costs $1), dirty/dusty tables and seating. Not nice at all. Dump Point. Clean pool, nice UC patio area, behind landscaped fence. Check-in was ho-hum from the foreign backpacker. No mud mat, just directions "head down to the right of the pool, " but we were given a small leaflet about the park's facilities. This is the 3rd outback park that seems reluctant in giving out a mud map of the park. Just something we noticed. Sprinklers were on the grassed areas so some effort is made to make the otherwise dirt bowl presentable. The sites started filling up by 2 pm and this was very late into the dry season. All in all, we would stay again. Happy hour 4-5 pm drinks $5. We had the Barkly Burger for $20 - a good size, with the lot, plus chips. More than a meal.
