Vaucluse House reviews
64This place is a luxury villa that is indeed located in a wealthy neighborhood and has experienced a recovery from the colonial period. This villa, which was built in 1803, has a Gothic Revival style where there are also small towers and fortresses that make this house not look like a house in general, but more like a castle. This house became one of the famous tourist attractions in Sydney because it is truly extraordinary beautiful with the gardens that surround it
My family had booked for my sister’s 30th birthday months ago. We get told today it is cancelled as now they have a wedding booking.
So now we must find an alternate venue two weeks out from the event with people coming interstate.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Growing up in the area you sometimes forget what you have on your door step, from Christmas carols in December to school excursions in the gardens in my younger years i have only good memories of this place its a beautiful piece of Australian history, I was lucky enough to do a guided tour through the house and stables a few years ago and the story of the family was incredible, a must see if you can get down to Vaucluse.
It is a great place and very interesting museum. The cafe is wonderful. We had a very tasty fresh salad and smoked salmon sandwiches. All good. Coffee is very good too. I did want to leave the place. Tranquility.
Beautiful setting, good food a little overpriced and the private function was a little loud and intrusive but all in all we enjoyed it
The place is over priced. We payed 55$ per person for 10 small pieces of sandwich and sweet stuff. In addition, the place was growded with youth having party and drunk. So is the place classified as family place, party place, youth place. Despite the environment is cool and nature is nice. But i won't recommended it unless if someone want to waste money.
It was very interesting in the way that people lived back then and even if you had money it didn't always help they had a wonderfully designed house for all weather conditions and even now it would be just right to design a house the same way
We loved our time there, we had the audio guide but the experience came to live in our walking tour. We had Harriet doing a fantastic talk with us introducing us to the customs, the characters as well as the perks and trials of living rich in the old world. She was our highlight for the day, so knowledgeable and yet so personable.
At one point when she introduced herself as Harriet, I thought that must be a make-up name to get our brains to go back in time.
Beautiful location and great High Tea. We had a great time here, although the service lets the place down. It was by no means terrible, but it wasn’t in keeping with the quality of the premises and the food.
Fantastic and knowledgeable guides - even had a personal tour on a quiet
Sunday. Lovely way to spend the day as a family taking in an iconic piece of Sydney’s history. Great it is still here to experience!
Beautiful! Such a hidden treasure in amongst the flowers and greenery of Vaucluse. As well as having a delightful high tea you can loose yourself in the grounds. The flourishing gardens take you away from the big smoke atmosphere only 5mins away. The house is stunning packed with history. The free tour is well worth it and it’s fun for all ages!
Vaucluse House is part of the Sydney Living Museums located in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Whilst not built by the Wentworth family it was the home of William Charles Wentworth. The house was purchased by the state government in 1910 & opened to the public in 1912. Today 9 hectares of the original 208 hectares remains. Stroll through the gardens and the original stables. View the interior with lavish furnishings.
Beautiful lighting at night! Went to a special event at night and it is a magical place. Gives a sense for what Sydney would of been a long time ago.
The garden is well kept and the scenery is awesome with massive greenery. However, I didn't get into the house cause it cost 12 AUD per entry: (
A very relaxing place for family and friends. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and a restaurant with the best scones and tea.
Not normally something I would do, but took my 75 year old father there and I actually enjoyed it. Great history and beautiful grounds to explore.
Really enjoyable. They have hand-held audio devices that explain the rooms and a bit of the history.
Scones and tea were lovely. Lunch was beautiful. Had the prawn pasta and barramundi and it was made and served beautifully.
Well preserved colonial era house with a fascinating history. Filled with antiques, many original or of the era. Guides are friendly, warm and knowledgeable of the grounds.
If you're interested in early Sydney history, local to the area or just want a good day's activity in the eastern suburbs then Vaucluse house is a worthy trip.
Lovely place with a lot of Australian History to learn. Was very interesting everyone in our group from kids to seniors. And was very nice to stay after the for a high tea.
