Vaucluse House reviews
64Came here on the guided tour to learn about its architecture. Very insightful & highly recommended for a 19th century vibe.
Excellent presentation of historical house of very important family in NSW history. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable Good cafe/ restaurant on site
A stunning example of a Sydney sandstone building built early in Sydney's history. Also beautiful gardens and a gorgeous tearoom.
This historic home and its grounds can be visited for free. It’s the former home of the Wentworths who originally owned a large area of the land in Vaucluse. If you visit here, make sure you walk through and enjoy the large yard. Access to the historic home is via an entry located at the rear of the property - near the stabling yards. There are toilets located at the rear of the property. There’s plenty of off-street and on-street parking located here. You’ll find a cafe / restaurant located near the home.
Came for a wedding, however service was really slow. We ordered a second kids meal and waited 30 mins. We then checked up with the manager who said he would check, however he never came back. We waited 20 mins before went to one of the waitresses who said the dish would be 5 mins. After 10 mins we finally went back to the manager who told us the dish wasnt available! Bad service!
Hidden gem of Vaucluse!
Free to visit, and free audio tour. The house has been set up as if you are walking into the house as it was in the 1800's.
The grand entrance hall, bedrooms and gardens are just gorgeous. This family lived large, for their time!
Nice little spot for functions receptions wedding etc. Really nice views and the restaurant staff are very friendly. The menu options were quite extensive and the staff were very helpful in walking through the options. The drive there is a tad bit windy but it's nothing too daunting.
Absolute gem! It gives you an idea of what the affluent colonial life looked like back in the day. Really well organised, preserved and curated, with some exceptional and friendly staff! Well worth a visit, especially since the entry is free!
The lovey man who works there was very helpful kind and respectful and gave me and my family a lot of insight to the house and other attractions around Sydney
I was visiting as pat of a family event. The management were very helpful. All members of the family enjoyed the short little ceremony
Located in one of the most prestigious suburbs in Sydney, Vaucluse House is Now served as a House Museum that had been transformed from a 19th Century Mansion. Accompanied with a pretty Tea Room and beautiful park grounds, Vaucluse House is looking particular Stunning during the Spring Seasons.
A nice Wedding Photo venue.
3 photos attached.
Exceptional estate! Vast grounds, knowledgable staff and the house itself is easy to walk through. Free entry. Pram friendly throughout the ground floor only, but there isn’t any accessibility to level 1 for prams/wheelchairs - however there is plenty to see downstairs.
We toured the estate on 9 July 2022 at opening time and the two gentleman at the reception area were incredibly friendly, professional and were proactive in advising us of the baby facilities available which we greatly appreciate!
This place was nice. Great atmosphere, food and pricing wasn’t too bad.
Uniqueness? 10/10
Nature also 10/10
Love the plants and greenery all around. Highly recommend this place. Book in advance though if possible (especially if it’s a special occasion) as we saw people being turned around.
It was a quiet weekday afternoon in Vaucluse during my holiday in Australia, and we'd just caught a bus direct from Watson's Bay- very handy and fast.
We walked through the leafy gardens in front, and there were no queues for the tour (which wasn't expensive).
I wisely chose to use the free audio guide, which filled me in on how the Wentworth family had established the house (possibly in 1827?), and their ups and downs due to scandals as the decades went by.
Michael and I (an old doctor friend I worked with in the 1980s) both enjoyed our leisurely and informative stroll around the decorated and furnished original rooms.
And yes, it was the same pioneering Wentworth I learned about in school who crossed the Blue Mountains many years earlier!
Unfortunately I doubt there is wheelchair access to upstairs. And no cafe.
But highly recommended as a glimpse into our colonial past.
This is a beautiful heritage house to a Sydney Politician back in the 1800s. Modern artist Yayoi Kusama holds her exhibition in this historical mansion - Narcissus Garden. Worth a visit - see how contemporary art brings a different vibe to the mansion!
It’s truly an interesting way to see history in Australia. It was very large and included some very interesting rooms with lots of space to roam and explore and the parts of it. And yes, there is a toilet that is part of the house. Although I don’t think you can use it. There was also a literal “ballroom” full of stainless steel balls called the narcissus garden. It’s all very entertaining but informative and definitely worth a visit. Not much to say about staff other than the start, or getting in.
This a 19th century McMansion. Historically significant perhaps, but aesthetically all over the place.
One for history buffs only.
There isn't any signage through the house but lots of history you need to hear/know in order to make the most of the stunning surroundings. The ground floor is the grandest but the private rooms occupied by the family on the upper floors were also fascinating.
Well worth a visit, lots of information with the audio guide. Also Con the volunteer was great with a wealth of knowledge making the visit very interesting.
Cool hidden gem to explore in the area and love learning new things about historic places that you haven't checked out.
Also there was a new exhibit by a Japanese Artist Called Yayoi Kusama so if in the area defs recommend to go check it out if you like art and old history
