Petersham Park reviews
54 Walked around here a few days ago. Lovely park with a bit of history Petersham Park was proclaimed on the 28 September 1887 following the resumption of Charles Wentworth's former estate.
In the early stages of the park it hosted concerts, tennis, cricket, football and basketball games.
In 1919 the park was the site of Petersham peace celebrations and later in 1921 the former entry gates to Town Hall were installed on the Brighton Street entry. In 1942 the tennis courts were removed and a kindergarten and swimming pool were constructed.
DONALD BRADMAN
Donald Bradman scored his 1st grade century aged 18 at Petersham Park in 1926 this was his debut appearance in Sydney grade competition at any level.
MOLLIE " the demon" FLAHERTY
Mollie was the first female fast bowler in international women's cricket. Mollie's career ran from 1937 to 1949 in which she represented Australia in 6 tests.
Mollie was also mean right hand bowler which allowed her to be both batter and bowler for NSW.
Mollie also played baseball for Australia and became a champion in golf tournaments after she retired from cricket.
Petersham Park has also got book libraries, play area, stone seating, cricket pavilion and score board plus picnic tables and toilets.
A great park for a birthday picnic. Beautiful shade and places to sit, eat, and enjoy the community atmosphere.
I think we’ve all been enjoying park life these past few weeks and there’s not too many parks that have a great location, plenty of space, toilets and dog friendly. Plenty of time has been spent here with friends and I will most definitely be utilizing this green space well after restrictions lift.
Spacious park with good playground and nearby facilities (tables, benches, BBQs). Decent tree coverage around the park, though a few more facilities spread away from the playground might be nice. Right next to a public pool, with a number of nearby cafes. Also a number of areas for dogs.
I love coming here with the dogs. There is a great area where dogs play, a beautiful strip of tree to sit and contemplate life and an oval to run around. Also a great cafe across the road.
Toilets, a few undercover areas, good play equipment, and the local pool is within the park. A good place for your lockdown picnic.
Take a spray if youre using the loos (at least there are loos though.) Lots of facilities including shaded play areas for little peeps, tyre swing, grand stand and lots of small, defined seperate areas around the park. Seems to be one if the park where alcohol with picnic is allowed.
Super lovely & huge park with plenty of space for all activities. There is an oval, many trees, a cafe & play equipment. Lots of happy dogs & their owners about.
Great playground for all ages, lovely oval and lots of trees for shelter and beauty, and a really nice cafe attached to the pool, accessible both inside and outside the pool facility.
Great park for.famikies and kids of all ages. Cafe at the Pool for mum and dad and lots of shade and trees
Has always been a pleasant, peaceful park, lots of mums and bubs. The swimming pool is their and oval seems set up for baseball which is a new eventuality.
Beautiful park with classic white picket fence around cricket oval. Cute band stand. Local jazz musicians often set-up on a Sunday to jam
Lovely place for family picnics and great facilities for kids to run around as well as a playground
Petersham provides park grate for long walks around the oval or do exisie at this park very local for me and my sister get get a get history and cut thought the park so near bye bus stop in Parramatta Road.
This turned into an splendid discover after assembly up at a children birthday party. Plenty of Green space for the children to run around in and there's a extremely good playground and flying fox for them to have hours of fun. The toilets are not too a long way away and there's always lots of parking near by.
A gentle combination of quiet, sports and child playground areas, perfect for family and group activities as well as individual/self/small group ones.
The park with the pool. As a local it’s like having are own pool. Great community feel and positive vibes all over the park. It’s also
Dog friendly.
Beautiful cricket ground, charming terraces surrounding the park. A brilliant swimming pool. Urban arcadia.
Great park, heaps of space. Has a kids playground, 2 nearby coffee shops and also connected to the Fanny aquatic centre. Hard to get a park when it's busy but there's plenty on the western side most of the times.
Petersham park is a classic 1900's inner Sydney park. Full of sandstone seats with an oval that even Don Bradman played in. It's nice and hasn't lost its old world charm.
