Macchiato Wood Fire Pizza & Coffee Roastery

If you want to go to a circus this is it. The waiting staff, in a word, can be described as clowns. We were seated and given menus by a rude waiter who had the audacity to click his tongue at my friend after he passed me a menu, simply because the waiter had said don’t pass them down but my friend hadn’t heard it. We then waited another 40 minutes, no joke, 40 minutes, for someone to even come take our order, despite repeated attempts to gain their attention. I literally watched a family of 5 come in after us, complete their entire meal, then leave before we had our orders taken. When someone finally came, the waiter didn’t know how the set menu worked and literally said “I don’t really know how this works, let me go get another waiter”. We waited another ten minutes for someone else to care enough to serve us. Admittedly, the second guy was quite nice. The food was mediocre at best, honestly the pizza was only slightly distinguishable from a dominos pizza, and even then not particularly in a good way. After the meal, a server was attempting to collect a plate, knocked my friends phone to the floor, tried to save it with his foot and then dropped the plate he had in his hands, shattering it on the floor. The waiters also started shouting at each other right behind us. We also asked for another bottle of water and the bottle was never to be seen again. And the cherry on top was the fact that when we asked to use our dine NSW vouchers, which we are clearly entitled to do so with a simple inspection of NSW government websites and information, they made up a BS excuse and told us we could only use 5 and the rest of us would have to pay the full amount. All in all, it would not be enough to describe the experience as a series of unfortunate events. Their intent was thinly veiled. They provided sub-minimal effort service to a group of 15 that they were making $45 per person off. Daylight robbery. I suppose a circus historically has never been value for money. I wish for all future patrons that the service staff learns to exhibit at least a pseudo-enthusiasm towards serving guests.

I can't thank the team at Macchiato enough for making my daughter's birthday so wonderful. Marilina looked after us so well and ensured every request was adhered to and met with a smile. The food was fantastic and so authentically Italian whilst the atmosphere was perfect for our celebration. We will definitely be coming back.

Best beef ragu I’ve EVER had, and I go out most nights. Beef was in literal chunks, plate was piled high. I’m not kidding when I say you will not find better beef ragu than this.

This has to be the best pizza and coffee house I have been to in Sydney. Very friendly and accommodating staff who managed to whip up breakfast way after breakfast time. Returned twice in the same day. A big shout out and hope to return in the coming weeks.

Came today for lunch and they sent me to a table close to where they bring drinks and boxes out (which is really uncomfortable to be, plus the uncomfortable chair) I asked the waitress to sit somewhere else and they claim that they had lots of bookings. Spent around 45 min and the restaurant remained empty.
Unsympathetic, Poor customer service and bad management.

Used to be my go to italian restaurant in the city but the food has changed unfortunately. Ordered Arancini- sauce was cold. Ordered 2 pasta dishes and they were very average and not worth the price, it didn't help that both pasta were both served cold as well. Server had an attitude which was annoying. Was celebrating a birthday when we dined in and when I was ordering- the server said: that's a lot of food for two people. Are you sure you want to order that much? First of all, it's no one's business how much a person order. Second, we are paying customers who can order what we want. If you must eat here, just get the pizza as it was the only thing we ordered that was good. Don't think I'll be eating at this restaurant again.

Have missed our breakfasts because of the COVID pandemic. While visiting Sydney we always call in and have breakfast here. Friendly staff great service and yummy food. Today was our first time back since travel has been allowed. Thanks for the cannoli George

My breakfast pizza was mouthwatering, I can not wait to come back! The coffee is also really delicious, you can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do.

My first impression when I looked at their menu is that everything is unnecessarily expensive. They sell foods that you can buy for $10 anywhere else, like fish and chips or beef burger, for $26, and most of their other options are also in that range, or even higher.

This is a pizza place so I went with several pizzas to share with friends (Margherita, Chicken Funghi and Gamberi). I tried all of them and I can say that none of them taste all that great. The dough were tough and the flavour was very average.

I was curious how their non-pizza options would taste, so I tried one bite of my friend's lasagne, but the cheesy taste was so thick it was sickening. In the end we couldn't finish it.

TL: DR everything is overpriced, very average pizza, less than average everything else. Wouldn't go back even if someone drags me.

Customer service complacency

After reading all the positive reviews we visited this venue yesterday Saturday 24.04.2021 for brunch. The venue looks great with plenty of space to cater for large and small gatherings.

At the time we visited the venue it was very quite and expected our food would come out relatively quickly. Our order included Pancakes, Zaatar plate and a Potato Pizza.

After placing our order with the waiter we were extremely disappointed as our pancakes arrived quickly but the other two main meals never showed up. After waiting 30 minutes we asked a waiter to check which he did but did not come back to advise an update, I then again had to call him over to ask what had happened. Our original waiter then came back over and advise it would be 5 minutes, when I questioned what happened he advised they lost the docket.

This leads me back to the headline of complacency of service as I would expect regardless of what the miss in communication was between the waiter and kitchen the waiter would constantly be checking on our order and overall experience. This resulted in my family and I wasting close to 1 hour in this venue to leave with a poor experience and overall handling of the situation by the staff.

To the owner of this venue you have a great foundation to deliver great experiences but you need the people who represent your business to do it justice.

There is a guy (in his 60s), very rude and impolite.
Coffee was cold. My desert arrived after two times following up.
Not recommended at all.

Pizza and pasta are worth trying despite being on the expensive side. The lamb shoulder was missing flavour and definitely not worth its price. We had a large group and our waiter Phelipe accommodated us to the best of his ability. Very good service from him.

An overall impeccable experience at this busy Italian restaurant in the heart of the city. Our entrees and mains were impeccable and the service timely and friendly. Would definitely go there again in heartbeat!

The table service was really attentive. They had good value in their wood fire pizzas. The live band was a little loud to my liking and the pricing is just above moderate, but all in all worth it. Nice experience with an ambient atmosphere.

The wait staff was amazing and incredibly accommodating. And the food was very good. Definitely a good cosy place for a good date night or time out with friends. Highly recommended!

Was disappointed with the initial staff cos they were all clueless. Always walking of to ask the manager or someone then not come back. Until we got the waiter Philippe who was extremely helpful. Oh and the food was really nice. Amazing cheesecake!

Having experienced Macchiato for coffee during the day it is a different experience in the evening with efficient and attentive staff and live music. Our group enjoyed a wide selection of food all agreeing they would return. There is a great choice of deserts on display to select from to have with coffee.
