Lightning Ridge Visitor Information Centre reviews
61The volunteers here are great ambassadors for Lightening Ridge. They are very helpful and knowledgeable and laid back. Maps and souvenirs available.
Tommy Lee is a wonderful asset to the centre. Passionate & knowledgeable about her town. Was very friendly and super informative. Lovley genuine smile too. Well done, we had a great time with your advice.
The information centre is much the same as all info centres. We visited for the Sunday market which is held in the carpark each week. There is plenty of opal and other jewellery on offer as well as heaps of interesting stuff, new and old. Worth a visit if your in the area and enjoy market places
Very helpful volunteer staff. A great place to start from at Lightning Ridge.
Follow the coloured car door sign posts at various locations around town for an easy site seeing day.
Recommended first stop at Lightning Ridge - the friendly staff will help you with all the Ridge has to offer!
If you go to Lightning Ridge be sure to stop in to the Information Centre. Super helpful and just lovely people to deal with. Sue has all the info on what to do, where to go and what to see (as well as the 'not to go/ do/see') and was a wealth of cheery Information. A pleasure to visit and will definitely drop in and say hi next time we're passing through.
Great stop for information, lady's were full of knowledge and happy to share, big area for the kids to do some noodling
Great useful information. Thanks team!
Bunch of great maps which you can get for free.
Plus if you want to get a copy of the car door tour maps they will cost $1.
Cheers
Absolutely fantastic! Sue was so helpful! Explained everything to us, told us exactly what we needed to know and was a pleasure to chat to. Definitely stop in if you visit lightning ridge. Sue was a massive help to our travels here.
Big shout out to Sue and the lady working with her on Sunday Dec 12. So helpful, can't have been easy putting up with everyone asking questions about floods and road closures!
Fabulous, passionate people who love their town and want you to love the Ridge, too. Thanks so much to Di, who couldn't have helped me more, and all the staff. You are amazing, welcoming people. Thank you xx
I wish I had taken down the names of the ladies who were working at the information counter. The community could not have found better people to promote and guide people around their community. These ladies obviously love Lightning Ridge. They knew intimate details about the place. I didn't hear a question asked that they couldn't give a helpful answer to. When I let them know I was a Science teacher I received a lot of extra information and resources, including on wildlife and vegetation. If you have a particular area of interest, I'm sure they could help.
The shop doesn't overwhelm you with merchandise. Includes some good local info books and guides.
The electric bbq outside worked.
Plenty of space to pull up, whatever you're driving or towing.
Very friendly helpful staff and great advice for seeing Lightning Ridge, a must see if you're going to visit the area.
Very satisfying the staff especially Sue were very helpful Sue went above and beyond to help me with things I didn't understand so thanks again Sue for your great and friendly service one day we will see you again when we are next we will definitely call in and say hello cheers Colleen and Anthony
The ladies are very very funny, and have heaps of knowledge. They will point u to the car door tour. It's a must. The $1 is very much worth it.
Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, extremely easy to find and plenty of parking. Small range of souvenirs available, also picnic tables and toilets on site. We did have to wait a good 10 minutes or so to purchase something as all staff were busy with other visitors.
Many thanks to Sue at the LR Info Centre for giving us her personal copy of the Chambers of the Black Hand DVD. My wife was unable to visit the mine because the elevator can't work doing the COVID Social Distancing rules. She made sure my wife got a copy of the DVD which is no longer available. Thanks Sue!
Wow. Incredibly, informative staff. If you are going to lLghtning Ridge for the first time. Visit these guys. Their local passionate info work will take all the guess work out of where to go & what to see. Thanks Di.can not wait to come back.
Great Maps to see in your way in, great knowledge from the he desk jockey, off the entire area. Great location as you enter town.
The customer service officer was excellent and had some great information to share. But we were very disappointed to learn that there were very few places to go 'noodling', as previously was the case. We had all our tools etc with us and were looking forward to getting out on the dumps at Grawin but learned that unfortunately these are now strictly off limits to the public. We spoke to many other tourists over our few days there, who were equally disappointed about the complete lack of access to areas to noodle. We were directed to the area next to the Information Centre and advised that it had been topped up in the previous 4 weeks. Nine of us spent over 90 minutes there on our last day and didn't find a single piece of potch, let alone any Opal! Considering that one of the main reasons that people visit Lightning Ridge is to experience noodling and to find their own special stone, it is beyond comprehension why this would now be the case. It will certainly have a very detrimental effect on tourism, especially return tourism! As much as we loved the Ridge, we will be heading to White Cliffs next, as they don't have the same restrictions.
