Joan Sutherland Theatre reviews
46Staff were friendly and helpful, atmosphere was pleasing, seating in theatre was not so comfortable and not a lot of space between people, arm-rest-wise, otherwise very organised for the show.
Acoustics are great. So many stairs but there's elevators. The ladies manning the crowd traffic flow could be too stern, maybe that's necessary.
We attended a performance of the Little Prince, tonight. The Joan Sutherland Theatre was pretty much packed and the audience really loved the show. The performance was extremely evocative and filled with longing and nostalgia and followed the little prince on his travels from one different world to another. Held together by a beautifully narrated story and lovely vocals to a contemporary orchestral and electronic music score. The beautiful innocence and naivety of the little prince was wonderfully portrayed and the characters he met and interacted with along the way charmed the appreciative audience. A lovely, lovely performance: a really inexpected delight on the Joan Sutherland Theatre stage. Only two more performances to go if you want two hours of a dreamy excape from planet earth.
Difficult access to opera theatre as lift maintenance, but had personal guided tour of basement, then new glass lift to theatre level. Thank you my guide. Performance of Tosca wonderful, acoustics stunning, audience in raptures, all masked, relieved no protesters.
Thank you to opera, glad you are back.
Lovely, comfortable auditorium with great acoustics, comfortable seating, modern lighting and easy access.
Who does not enjoy a night at The Opera in our iconic Opera House on the most beautiful Harbour in the World. Not to be missed, you don't have to go to the Opera or The Ballet or the Symphony, come and just visit you won't be disappointed.
Great view from almost all seats, partial view is stated when otherwise. Nice staff and comfy chairs, would love to see mobile phone usage policed a bit more during performances, and more ladies toilets! Or at least make them unisex so we can spread the queues evenly
It's such an iconic building with amazing views of the harbour and Lady Mcquarie's Chair from the balcony and entrance. Seating is comfortable and every seat has an excellent view of the stage. There are subtitle screens for foreign language shows, and the sound is excellent as well.
Definitely a must for visitors and locals.
Nice seating arrangements inside theatre however limited seating at cafe directly outside theatre and a little expensive.
I attended the show on the greatest opera hits. The theatre is perfect. The performance was just outstanding. The Sydney Opera house lived upto it's name: D
Intimate theatre inside the Sydney Opera House. Entrance is up the Opera house stairs next to the concert hall. They are serious about bag checks, so don't haul all your shopping and large backpacks in, they probably won't let you in with large bags. Circle seats are great.
Excellent venue. An Australian icon that should be visited by everyone at least once if not more! Must see!
Excellent venue. Just watched The Australian Ballet perform The Nutcracker. Staff helpful and friendly.
Went and saw the Australian Ballet performance of Sylvia, it was excellent, and I would 100% recommend that you go see it if you can. Even if you only have a mild interest in the ballet.
My first opera, loved it. Theatre is a good size so there are no bad seats, pretty close to stage wherever you are.
Absolutely Amazing Experience, We went Here to Watch West Side Story and the Atmosphere was incredible. Top Quality Service, the Orchestra sounded Gorgeous. Great Show and What a Great Time we had.
Great performance, great view but had difficulty understanding dialogue. Superb singing and dancing. Too many stairs
Great venue to see modern music. Sharon Van Etten and her band provided an excellent performance. Great sound in a large venue whilst still being intimate.
Not a single opera but some of the most well known portions of the most popular. It was an amazing evening.
Listened to today's performance and had great fun with a potpourri of greatest hit of opera. But beware if you are a tourist: the inside of the Sydney Opera House is not as spectacular as the outside is.
