Joan Sutherland Theatre reviews
46I come here at least once a year. Prolly the best stage in Sydney.and full of history. Quite controversial too!
A lovely performance space.despite it not being ideal for larger scale opera and ballet.
We were lucky to see The Curtain of the Sun. It's unfortunate that it isn't hung more often.
Not a bad seat in the house. We were right up the top but could still see & hear everything perfectly for the musical Miss Saigon.
Saw Miss Saigon from the cheap seats. My first time back to the Opera House in decades. It was a matinee performance and was about 80% full. I can't believe I left it so long to return.
Great theatre, been there a few times, clean, good location, bar was open this time which was nice to have some bubbles, even had cupcakes so kids where happy.well run venue, wheelchair accessible.
The performation is great however the expenience in the theatre is horrible.
People have symptoms of covid still let them in and people coughing, don't wear face mask when they have symptoms. I think Opera house need to control it when they can.
We travelled up from Melbourne to see Phantom of the Opera and what a wonderful experience we both had. A brilliant performance at a grand theatre at the amazing Sydney Opera House. The ticketing staff and ushers were absolutely delightful making the overall experience a sensation. Thank you very much.
What can you say.
The Sydney Opera is not just an iconic building it is also the home of wonderful performance spaces. Joan Sutherland provides a great atmosphere and delivers excellent performance outcomes.
We went to see Phantom of the Opera which was absolutely fantastic. The staff are so helpful and very professional as well
Have seen some amazing shows here and love the view from the stalls. Chairs aren't the comfiest but are fine, I mean you're sitting inside an iconic building so it's ok to let some things slide!
Been since the renovation. Very nice, comfortable bits is f excellent wherever you sit.the acoustics are amazing. Works love to see more shows there but even can afford the tickets
Theatre was rather small with seating very narrow and packed.stage is a small one which means any musicals performered there means a condensed stage
Fantastic seats to watch the performance, great acoustics brilliantly designed building. Worth seeing a performance at this Theatre.
Pretty, and well equipped place but some of the seats you really cannot see much at all when in other theatres the same seats for cheaper would come with greater visibility. The sound of the show I saw was concerningly loud, my ears were ringing with earplugs in! But its certainly beautiful and well equipped, also has some accessibility issues with so many stairs and limited elevators.
Amazing venue, amazing production of Phantom of the Opera. New lifts make it easier for people with disabilities to get around the Opera House. It is as stunning and iconic as ever!
I watched the Phantom of the Opera. What a brilliant and unforgettable experience that was. The orchestra was right below the stage, the lighting and sound effects were so good, and the vocals were unbelievably talented. Very impressive stage props - how did the Phantom disappear from the stage is beyond me! Getting to this theatre was another pleasure that allowed me to enjoy the beautiful Sydney Harbour from an unique angle. Bravo What a privilege and blessing to experience this place with family and friends.
Beautiful theatre within the Opera House; second largest at the OH. We've been to watch Barber of Seville, Giselle, and Phantom. Opt for the slightly higher price of middle stalls close to the front - definitely worth the premium.
We saw phantom of the Opera here. The performance was spectacular and the venue was clean and easy and the staff were very helpful and kind. I was a little disappointed with the lack of souvenirs from the show that were available to purchase. The views from the Opera House of the bay and the bridge and the City skyline are spectacular.
Went to see phantom of the Opera. The show was fantastic, didn't realise how small the theatre was, expected it much larger seeing the size of thr Opera house. Otherwise staff and performance fantastic
Beautiful of course. Seats were big enough for me (6ft2) which is often a problem. Phantom of the opera was awesome. All the staff are well organized with the crowds.
Just don't order wine in the interval unless you're first in the queue. They told us we can't take it back into the theatre AFTER we paid even though less than 5 minutes of the interval remaining. Had to either leave it or down it.
