Jervis Bay Maritime Museum reviews
53Excellent visit. Love this place and will go again. There's a lot to see and a great deal to read and study. A 'must see' for anyone associated with the Shoalhaven.
We went here to escape the rain with a toddler. While our toddler had fun exploring the ferry unfortunately only one level is open. We were expecting some more boats not just one. The mangrove walk was nice but you can do that without paying entry fee. So not really worth $25 for two adults.
Great way of exploring our history in our own backyard. I remember being on this boat back in 1985 before it was decommissioned for display here at husky. Well done
Staff are friendly and very helpful. Lots of info on what's going on in the area and how to get around.
The kids get a questionnaire they need to fill out, makes for alot of fun and really makes you pay more attention, great museum really enjoyed the visit.
Such a great historic place to visit. The signs make this pace a fantastic pace to learn more about the flora and fauna in the area.
I remember going there often when the Lady Denim was being restored. Now the changes at the museum amazed me. Great job.
Nice place to have a picnic & look at the fish in the pond. The board walk is not a place to take your dog as its a sanctuary area. The walk is short but the view of Currembene Creek is magnificent. We haven't ventured into the Maritime Museum yet.
The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum is the perfect place to catch up on all of the areas local history. The outdoor area has fish that you can feed, sit and relax or take a walk over the waterways. They also have cool market days. The museum on the inside has an actual old ferry from Sydney Harbour that you can walk through. There are some sections of the museum which have accessible ramps and other spots which only have stairs. The front reception staff are friendly and knowledgeable and have a lot of cool objects in the gift shop. My favourite part of my visit was learning that it took just seven hours to get from Sydney to Jervis Bay in 1951. Wow! It’s a perfect place for young and old to visit.
Great way to spend a few hours! The ferry was a big highlight, and the museum included art and historical sections too. My partner liked the shop, and we brought a picnic lunch to eat in the pavilion behind the museum.
Lovely maritime museum. Museum was small but informative. It is a must visit place if you are in the area
Well worth a visit! Reasonable entrance fee covers museum and grounds. Varied and interesting artifacts, grand selection of paintings and photographs. Main exhibit is the ex-Sydney wooden Lady Denman ferry built locally in 1911. Pleasant and courteous staff. Clean and well maintained.
Surprisingly large and contains a few local historical exhibits in addition to the maritime stuff. $10 entry.
Fabulous Museum With Stunning Unique Displays, Highlighted By The Completely Enclosed Lady Denham Ferry. Loved Being Able To Go Aboard This Iconic Ferry.
Barely ten minutes from St Georges Basin at Huskisson you can immerse yourself in Jervis Bay’s rich maritime past.
There’s plenty of information here about the area’s Aboriginal population, their lifestyle and customs across thousands of years of pre-European history, and the ups and downs through post-colonial marginalisation and the Aboriginal land rights movement.
There are fascinating accounts and artefacts from the many shipwrecks on the perilous South Coast, and you’ll get the inside track on the abandoned 19th-century lighthouse at Cape St George.
The undoubted star of the show is the Lady Denman ferry, built in 1911 just a few short steps from the maritime museum, and now being restored to its 1960s heyday as part of the Sydney Harbour’s ferry fleet
Such a great place to visit for any boating enthusiast. Great historical displays. Really fun to see the Lady Denman up close! Highly recommended!
Organised place & friendly staff.were half closed, so very small inside, but the outside area is great with lovely views
Only a small facility but full of information and history. Great to see the beautiful old Lady Denman inside as a living memory of the areas ship building heritage.
Very friendly volunteers
Great Maritime history to be seen. When we went we had our dog the ladies looked after her while enjoyed
