Amazing museum. Highly recommend the 2pm guided tour, it tells you a lot about the stories behind the architectural work behind. I really enjoyed it. 20% of the Australian population is said to have convict ancestors from England and Ireland. You can even search your family history in the museum’s convict database! It is good to see that the country has now come to treat its history with pride and value the architectural legacy that recorded its past.

Hyde Park Barracks Sydney's early convict history writ large. Part of the Sydney Living Museums well worth a visit. This site is one of the 11 UNESCO Convict Heritage sites in Australia. The other sites in Sydney are Cockatoo Island, Old Government House Parramatta and the Great North Road.

Plenty of displays taking you back in time to a life that once was. Taking you from 1819 the early settlement days and convicts to housing of women in the mid 1800's until it became government offices. Beautifully restored back to a museum for us all to experience.

This is a great place to spend an hour or so looking at the colonisation of Sydney through the eyes of convicts and immigrants. The barracks is divided up and dedicated to aspects of life such as immigration, punishment, reward, archeology etc. Great personal stories from archive accounts.
