Diggies Cafe reviews
58Overcrowded and exorbitantly overpriced. Because you are eating right on the water expect long lines, slow service and mediocre food. Went there with my partner a few years ago we spent almost $60 for 2 breakfasts and 2 juices
Update: this time was much better. It was not busy which meant the service was fast, friendly and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the Salmon Croquettes.
The view is certainly lovely, especially on a clear sunny day. However, the service is terrible, to say the least and the food very bland.
We had to wait over 15 minutes to order our coffees and food. We then waited another 25 minutes for our food, which was very frustrating. Our coffees had finished before we even got our food, leaving us with nothing to drink while we waited. To remedy the situation, we decided to order two orange juices, but they never arrived.
To add to our woes, the food was rather bland and unappetizing. Despite the long wait, we were disappointed to find that the food was tasteless and bland. We had expected the dishes to be more flavoursome especially because we ordered dishes with quite distinct flavours.
Additionally, as today was a public holiday and there was a significant additional surcharge it was very insulting to pay a hefty fee for terrible, unfriendly and inattentive service and horrible food!
Overall, while the view was good, the service and food at this coffee shop are definitely below par. It was a pity to have to endure such a disappointing experience. I would not recommend this coffee shop to anyone looking for a quality experience.
We’re waiting 20 minutes outside for a table we’re finally seated nobody brought us water we had to go and get it ourselves and then food took over an hour to come for a fry eggs we’re cold and chewy! Terrible service and then charged us a surplus for it being Labour Day!
So sad that this epuc spot will be spoiled by wind turbines littering the ocean to decay and degrade over decades.
On our way to kiama but decided to drop by Wollongong first for brunch. Found this cafe with 4 stars review beside the beach and gave it a try!
Environment 5/5
Very nice ambient, not a big cafe but very crowded, could be due to long weekend. Sea view directly from the cafe. But don’t sit at the side if you’re scared of the sun, I was nearly cooked after half an hour
Service 4/5
In overall not too bad, we ordered a medium steak but was came well done. They are willing to change a new one for us.
Ice long black/ Cap 4.5/5
Big brekkie 3/5
Portion is good, but the ingredients are not as fantastic. In overall just so-so
Salmon bagel 3.5/5
The bagel is well toasted, but the smoked salmon is a little bit too salty.
Will I come back again? 2/5
Quite unlikely
The worst value for money that I’ve experienced. $18 for ONE piece of brown avocado on toast with goats cheese that was definitely off. The sourdough is so dry that you can’t even cut through it, you would genuinely need a chainsaw for it. Location is great but definitely would not return based on their food. In addition to this, the service was VERY slow! Waiting 30+ minute during a quiet morning for 3 meals.
So disappointing. My husband and I had brunch at Diggies today. The wait staff seemed to have no care and the service was terrible. We asked the wait staff for table water 5 times before we ended up getting up and getting it ourselves. The cafe was not busy but the wait staff were too busy chatting amongst them selves, I had to go to the front to ask someone to come take our order.
My husbands large cappuccino was only 3/4 full. We waited 40 mins for our food only to have an undercooked fried egg on the gong gurfers burger and for the salt & pepper squid was soggy. We’ve been to diggies on multiple occasions, but with each visit prices go up and it seems to getting worse and worse.
Real shame since it has a lovely location and used to be one of our favourite brunch spots. I really hope they make some changes to improve.
Terrific outlook, Waves rolling in, right outside the open windows.
Food really excellent, great staff also.
Only draw back, got the wobbly table,
Not impressed with how management is protecting staff from COVID. Public entering the building without masks and without proof they have a valid exemption. Public also arguing with staff when staff remind about the rules, including those hanging around outside. I feel really sorry that the staff have to put up with the behaviour, but it appears on multiple occasion that senior staff are not backing them up. If the public won't comply then send them away or call the police, and let the rest of us enjoy your great cafe.
Always solid food and a great location. Unfortunately it is very popular and people love to linger so depending on your luck, it may take some time for a table to open up. Love that their menu options are not just boring bacon/egg brunches and coffees, lunch menu is great.
Had scrambled eggs on sourdough with a side of extra crispy bacon. Was tasty and bacon was cooked to perfection. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Lovely view and helpful staff. Food on par with any other cafe. Coffee is good. Would come back. Thanks for taking care of us guys!
Just had a lovely lunch at the Kiama location. Hot choclate was yum and I hear the coffee was great, too. My chicken burger tasted great. Juicy meat with the crispy salad and fresh bun. Unfortunately it wasn't easy to cut with the blunt knife. Apart of that a good experience. Relaxed atmosphere with attentive, friendly staff and reasonable prices:)
Very, very busy. Food was average, service was good and friendly. Time limits were placed on how long we could have our table.
Diggies consistently produces super high quality breakfasts and lunches, coffee and juices. Even though it is almost always very busy they get your orders to you in a friendly and efficient manner.
Beautiful view and relaxed atmosphere. Great range of food on the menu that is always prepared quickly. The staff are always really friendly. I think I have a new favourite Cafe!
An absolute must if you are in the gong. Can be a a pricey spot but you are paying for the best location and staff in the gong. Coffee, salmon croquettes, pancakes & cocktails are amaze. Bench seat is the best seat in the house for 1 or 2 people.
Would be nice to see them improve the gluten free bread as it tastes well below average and could find better quality GF toast at coles (esp considering you are paying an additional $3 for the gf ‘bread’)
Besides that it is still my main go-to & fav in North gong.
Attended with a child and ordered two adult fish and chips and a child’s. The adults portion was double the price of the child’s but the portion sizes were not double. The fish was very oily and overly fishy and really hard to enjoy. Nice service but poor food for the price.
Very fenerous servings that fill u up for ages! The hot chocolate is to die for, my go to for a hot choccie and a nice breakfast
Our first time dining at Diggies. We enjoyed the food very much and such a beautiful location with lovely wait staff. But we had been at the cafe just short of an hour and were thinking of ordering tea/coffees post meal and boom a gentleman who I assume was the owner told us they needed the table in 10 minutes. I had booked the table and had received a reminder the evening before. There was no notificatiion, either on booking or reminder, to let us know that we only had the table for one hour. We had driven from Sydney and had to vacate on the hour. Very disappointing.
