Let's just say that my Chinese grandparents would be disappointed if I took them here for dinner. The food isn't authentic Chinese and some of the dishes I did enjoy the taste of, but it really does feel overpriced for what you get. I can't recall the prices of each menu item I ordered but for an entree, a shared plate of fried rice and a curry we paid around $80. I didn't enjoy the taste of the pork pancakes, it was very sweet. I liked the fried rice but that's not much to brag about.
Overall not bad but not somewhere I'd return. My partner also told me that making a reservation for the 2 of us was messy and required an up-front fee (but we did go just after the worst of COVID, around July 2020)
I've heard the Melbourne one is the better of the two and would be keen to try that one when I travel.

Food, drinks we're good, however they forgot our drinks order 2 times, asked if we want water but that never arrived. Went to the toilet and when I came back my expensive drink was taken away. So needless to say a bit disappointed.

This is a late review as I went to Chin Chin for my birthday dinner on a Friday night in 2020. It was an impromptu choice so we had no reservation, and the wait was about 1 hour for table of 3. The place is busy, loud and hip. The restaurant serves Fusion Thai cuisine and they were overall delicious (however a tad salty to my liking).

Chin Chin is always a delight. The food is excellent, fresh and flavoursome. There are always enough staff to look after you and although it is quite loud, the funky relaxed atmosphere make for a lovely experience. We started going to the Melbourne restaurant years ago and were pleased to see the same quality in Sydney you come to expect from the Lucas Group.

We have consistently had a great time at Chin Chin. Even now as a vegan we had epic food and great service! A particular shout out to the wonderful server Lucas, he made us feel so welcome and was all around terrific.

We dropped in on a holiday from Melbourne. We were sat promptly and service was fair. We ordered the prawn stir fry and the beef rib.
The stir fry was Luke warm and lack lustre and the beef rib (of which there was only one) for almost $40 was a rip off. There was not much meat in the rib and for the money I would expect much more from this dining group.
The ambiance is brilliant but unfortunately chin chin needs to lift its game and not assume all diners like being taken for a ride.

We hosted a 40+ person event here and had an incredible experience from the point of reaching out to investigate the venue, all the way through to the end.

Lauren was fantastic to deal with, the staff on the day were super friendly and attentive, and the food was amazing.

We wouldn't hesitate to host another event here. Great work Chin Chin!

Having been to Chin Chin in Melbourne before, I had high hopes for this restaurant, but left feeling underwhelmed. The staff were friendly and courteous, but came across as unknowledgeable and clumsy. The food itself was fine, but some dishes were a bit lacklustre. We had a set menu, and one of our group had some dietary requirements that resulted in a couple of separate dishes, which were actually better than those included in the set. The food seemed to arrive at our table with incredible speed, so much so that we were often still eating the course before when the next course arrived. There was often not enough space on the table to fit the dishes they were rushing out. Certainly felt like they wanted us in and out as quick as possible, which kind of killed the mood. Overall the food was fine, the service was fine (we would have like the food to slow down a bit), but for the price, fine doesnt really cut it.

Meh, just meh. The food wasn’t terrible, the service wasn’t bad, it was all just meh. Love their Melbourne restaurant, but their Sydney operations fall very short. We ordered the banquet of their “best” dishes. They were elevated Thai takeaway, at best. Every course came out on top of the previous one, no time to savour the food or enjoy the wine. Not in a rush to go back anytime soon or ever.

Great place to have a private function. Food and drinks were delicious. Staff were warm, friendly and relaxed. The private room (Chii 1) was perfect for the 60 person sit down dinner. Lauren was amazing to deal with in the lead up to the event. Nothing was too difficult and the team were happy to make changes to the menu so that it suited us.

It was very difficult to make any kind of speeches as no microphones were allowed. We did know this when we booked but perhaps the chin chin team could think about allowing microphones for a very short time, say 15 mins?

Regardless, I would definitely plan another function here again. Thanks team!

I heard good things about this place and we paid a pretty penny for the banquet set menu. I was told this place was upper class and was considered 5 star Chinese.

I can truthfully say this experience did not live up our experience for me and 3 other guests.

Our fish ended up being under cooked and we needed to return it. Most dishes we nice but it was very hit and miss. I also consider the cuisine more thai and Chinese.

The atmosphere is very casual it is not fine dining and it is not intimate.

Overall I think it is very over priced for what you get. We agreed we will not be coming back.

I'll start by saying we love the original Chin Chin's amazing food and the well oiled machine quality service.

So when a Sydney relative booked a table for dinner here, we were glad to go. They stuck our 3 person party at a small two person table. That'd be fine if the place wasn't built around sharing and having 4 plates a time on a table. The table was so small that while reaching over to get something, the awkward place I had to put my drink flung it directly on to me and the ground. The way they responded made me think this was something that happens all the time when they stuff people in together.

Oooh and the best part was that for the whole dinner the wait staff was rude and disaffected, at one point explaining to a member of the party that the reason they didn't have English breakfast tea was because "we're an Asian restaurant, buddy. "

We all know that trendy restaurants in big cities are different from your local pub and being a bit squished in can be part of the fun. But to book three people at a 1m sq table with a constant stream of share dishes coming in and out struck us as the kind of profit-maximising BS unworthy of a place costing $100 per head. Buyer beware.

Oh and they seem to have their stereo system on some kind of weird torture setting where the volume markedly increases every 10 minutes.

The food was pricey but inventive and tasty. The sound system was atrocious and ruined a birthday celebration. We watched two other groups leave after asking for the volume to be turned down. Such a shame.

Was told a 30 minute wait and that our names were on wait list. After 30 mins we returned and were told it would be an hour longer. After an hour and a half received a text message saying our booking wasn't available and had been canceled.

Staff were rude, unattentive and extreme off putting. Will never return.

Delicious menu offering and staff were attentive. Drinks were a little on the slow side but overall good experience

Very delicious food. Can’t fault it. But, very noisy so don’t go there if you are looking to chat quietly. Be careful about the water too. At $11 per bottle, the wait staff are constantly filling your glass. Before you know it, you’re up for $33 on water!

Absolutely Horrible service
First time recommended
Never to return.

1 star is generous!

Slow drinks.
The only bar 30% full and GEN Y too busy on their phones to serve customers also arguing when challenged.
These children are Clearly arrogant and have zero people skills.
I do not recommend this restaurant.

To many alternative restaurants with much consistent service.
Mr wongs or China doll cannot fault.

We went to Chin Chin for dinner today and tried the Chefs Banquet worth $88 pp and it was just out of the world. The banquet options are so well planned and every dish had a unique taste which made us want to try the next one. The portion sizes were very good too. There were 8 items listed in the Chefs Banquet and we were almost full by the time we finished eating our 5th. The desert at the end was very unique and worth trying. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone who loves food and wants a nice upmarket dining experience. Thanks to our host Ruby who took good care of us and paced out things for us to make for a memorable evening.

Thanks to Chin Chin for hosting our wedding reception. We all had so much fun! The food was sensational, the drinks flowed, and we all got into the party spirit. Chin Chin staff were so accommodating and we could not have been better taken care of. The space downstairs was perfect with one long table to seat our 30 guests and enough room left for mingling and dance moves! Thanks again Chin Chin. Mr and Mrs Black will certainly be returning for our anniversary (and likely sooner!)

Don’t believe the hype.
Had the $88 Banquet (best of the best) and was overall disappointed, the food was nice but very basic and definitely not worth the price was very simple not much flavours, wouldn’t recommend the fish laksa dish from the banquet either, fish was hard and over cooked.
Was really looking forward to trying Chin Chin, we spent 320$ altogether for two banquets two cocktails and a bottle of wine and a 45 dollar charge for it being a bank holiday weekend, it was a hefty price to leave dissatisfied. Staff were nice and service was good but food was a big let down from what we had expected.
