Wave Rock reviews
39 Veey clwan and well maintained. Good wufi as iotus has no network.
Wifi available on top of wace rock too
Amenities were clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good for families but very confined sitting on top of each other. Wave Rock was worth the stop.
Wave Rock is a rock that looks like a giant ocean wave frozen in time. It's a fantastic sight in the middle of Australia's desert. It's really tall, like a skyscraper, and it's shaped like a huge breaking wave you'd see at the beach.
When you stand next to it, you feel really small. You can even climb up it, and when you reach the top, you can see the whole desert around you. It's like being on top of the world!
People come from all over to see Wave Rock, and it's a great place to take pictures. It's one of those things in nature that makes you go, "Wow! " So, if you're ever in Australia, don't forget to check out Wave Rock.
Rude staff. Noisy caravan park. Bottle & can collectors arrived at 7am Sunday morning morning!
Powered site good. Ensuite site - clean and tidy. Came from Esperance to see the rock and salt pools. Bit noisy as they were setting up for the music festival the next day, (we weren’t told about that when we booked the day before).
Definitely something you don't see every day, and certainly something worthwhile checking out. Parking is $12 per car, but you can avoid this fee by not parking inside the designated area (park at the Cafe and walk across the road.
Couldnt find numbers for allocation then when we did find our number the trees eitherside were low unable to back our small rv. Hi ace, branches scraping roof. Had to tell office to place us in a more suitable place. Apart from that when settled it was enjoyable
Not in a national park so dogs are welcome. A 400 metre level stroll to Wave Rock.
One of those iconic Aussie sights to see.
Good clean amenities but tv reception is dead even for satellite TV so apart from the sights not much to do.
Not a bad caravan park, amenities clean, van sites okay although we had a small wash out through the middle of ours. It's also right next to wave rock.
What amazing place to stay tucked so close to an ancient site stayed in a cabin Very relaxing Great amenities amazing friendly staff I was sad to leave after wave rock weekender so I stayed longer
Will definitely be back
Wave Rock is around a 3.5 hr straight drive from Perth CBD. Its a long return day trip but Ive done it many times and have always found it a great day because I stop at significant towns and quirky places along the way to give guests a broad feel for the country and its communities which are so appealing.
Springtime between August - November depending on the rainfall brings abundant wildflowers and the countryside is lush and green turning to golden yellow as the wheatbelt crops of wheat, canola and other grains mature over time.
I highly recommend a walk over the top of Wave rock to see if you can find a small clearing of rocky man made stone plynths.if you cant find any - feel free to build some yourself and build the space back up again.
If youre lucky you may see small runner rock lizards which scurry around out of your way - not harmful at all.
Its a really beautiful place, peaceful and majestic. Take a hat in summer and fly nets or just pray for wind to blow the flies away.they can be annoying so a snapped off branch may be useful as a swat.
Not out favourite place to camp. There are much better options in nearby Towns like Kulin caravan Park that is run so well.
The front desk isn't attitude is not pleasant. They made a huge point of saying "checkout at 10am" in a very gruff tone. Funny thing is my wife being a bit deaf asked " checkout what? ". Hmmm. Be nice to your customers we do network with other campers.
The camp kitchen is small with the minimum of facilities, the undercover area was too breezy for cold weather but may be nice in summer, the tent spaces are so close together we could hear other people snoring. Astro turf for the tent site looked nice but was almost impossible to get a tent peg through even with a hammer (it needs a sand base under it). Very limited shower numbers but we never had to wait so maybe no one else used them.
One positive is you can go see Wave Rock as it is right beside the camp ground without paying for parking.
We would choose another location next time and just do Hyden as a day trip.
Large caravan park near Wave Rock in Hyden, WA with good facilities.
Time and Cost: No apparent time limit, $30 per night powered.
Access: Sealed.
Facilities: Smallish sites with sandy/dirt base and no shade. Facilities include flushing toilets, showers, potable water and power, bins, dump point, camp kitchen, laundry, swimming pool, WiFi. Weak Telstra reception but no Optus or TV.
Ambiance: Quiet.
Good campground for a quiet, multi-night stay. Scenic with short easy hikes to Wave Rock, Hippos Yawn and Lake Magic. Can get busy so booking ahead is recommended.
When we got there the older lady that works at the caravan park was rude. I asked her about the pioneer museum room to see if we could take a look. She said u know it cost money. I said yeah thats ok how much? She replied with $4.u could tell she clearly didnt want to open the room up with the way she said this. She clearly didn't want to promote it the other day when we visited there either. We had to read it on a pamphlet we got. No wonder not many people know about it that have been there. Then they said we had to pay a $12 parking fee. We had already visited the other day and seen the cave and wave rock. So forget it. Not to just see a room of a museum Won't be back there again. Better customer service is needed
Great views and nice rock features, there is also a small dam next to it. There is a carpark that fit some cars and very few caravans come at your own risk. The use of drones is allowed until someone comes over and stop you. GL and HF.
Pro's
Caravan Park is great, service friendly and efficient, toilets clean, well kept, lovely pool and large undercover outdoor area to gather and plenty of BBQ facilities.
Cafe was great and very friendly service.
Wave rock itself is pretty cool as is Hippos yawn.
The signage over the rock is very interesting and worth an early morning walk. The walks are all worth doing.
Cons
A number of the signs seem rather racist (I'm a non indigenous person) and like they are from the early 1900's (someone tried to cover parts of some signs).
On one billboard it says 'No story of this place would be complete without without acknowledging the original inhabitants. ' maybe a bit patronising.
Maybe talking to the local indigenous nation to get wording would be more appropriate.
Shame the rock has the wall around it as it obvioulsy has effected the salinity of the wetlands.but at least the golf course looks green!
Long drive, not much to see, not suitable for young kids, many areas are hard to climb, you can get lost easily over there, if you aren't careful enough you can get badly injured, most of this place needs you to be fit, some areas may require high level of fitness, dogs ain't allowed.
Some areas are unique with the wave rocks shape. Must take photos.
What an amazing place to do astrophotography with great views of the Milky Way. Join us on one of our tours inclusive of accomodation, food, transport and input from professional photographer Ann-Mair Francis
It was wet, windy and cold put it was warmer than Perth. Caravan park was warm and cosy in one of there cottages.
